Liliana was a skilled hacker, with a particular talent for launching Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on websites. She was known throughout the hacking community for her ability to bring down even the most secure sites.

One day, Liliana set her sights on aaroads.com, a popular website that provided information about highways and roads across the United States. She had been hired by a group of activists who wanted to take down the site in protest of what they saw as biased reporting on transportation issues.

Liliana logged onto her computer and pulled up her hacking software. She felt a rush of excitement as she typed in the website's IP address and began to launch her attack.

The screen flickered as her software flooded the website's servers with thousands of requests. Liliana watched the website's traffic monitor, her heart racing with anticipation as the number of requests climbed higher and higher.

The website's servers began to slow down, struggling to keep up with the flood of requests. Liliana grinned, feeling a sense of satisfaction as she watched the site start to crash.

But as she continued her attack, Liliana began to feel a twinge of guilt. She knew that her actions were illegal and could harm innocent people who relied on the website for information.

As the website finally went down, Liliana paused for a moment to reflect. She knew that she had succeeded in her mission, but at what cost?

In the end, Liliana decided to turn herself in to the authorities. She realized that there were better ways to fight for change, and that her actions had only caused harm.

As she faced the consequences of her actions, Liliana vowed to use her skills for good and to find ways to make a positive impact in the world. And although her experience had been like a video game, she knew that the stakes were all too real.

Occasionally the server displays a generic Ionos page in place of the actual site. This usually happens for me when the site slows/lags. Refreshing the page usually returns the actual site in place of the page with "AARoads.com has just been registered" landing page.

Bringing up some random forum that nobody else here is on doesn't make sense anyway. I don't know why he would do that unless he was trying to ask why they had ads on their forum. Especially since we don't, if you're registered.

That's always been such a weird rule to me. Like obviously the mods wouldn't be able to help about another forum, but maybe some random user knows more about the forum. This forum already doesn't have way too many rules in general, and that rule has always seemed weird to me.

I think the point of contention isn't so much about "hey, this is a neat (other) website", but more of "nuggetblob.xyzdomain.bip banned me for no reason, and I'm here to whine about it" that isn't necessary. Or if a user wants to complain about a random non-road site which ripped them off on their purchase of nutritional supplements, or a random stranger flaked on a visit to the local hypermart parking lot buy their widget and blivet collection. Or that some social media site Changed Everything And Now It Sucks post which has no useful content for others.

Admittedly, I kind of forget that's a rule.

It was one of the ones Alex imported from another forum. I'm guessing it was a bigger problem on whatever forum it was from originally. I think it was a weather forum, a topic which had several active forums at the time, so there was a greater chance someone would be complaining or asking questions about another forum.

AARoads has always been the only roadgeek site that has a traditional forum format, so it's less relevant here. It has come up from time to time though (such as now).
Title: Re: aaroads.com domain registered

I don't think the intent is to discourage complaining about other websites.  I mean, if that were the point, then we wouldn't have a 1200+ (and counting) post thread called 'Google Maps just fucking SUCKS now'.

Note, rather, how it's worded:  Any questions about other websites.

While |Poiponen13| didn't technically ask a question about that other forum, his comment could be interpreted as asking why that forum operates the way it does.  More importantly, though, it had absolutely nothing to do with the operation of the AARoads site at all.

I don't think the intent is to discourage complaining about other websites.  I mean, if that were the point, then we wouldn't have a 1200+ (and counting) post thread called 'Google Maps just fucking SUCKS now'.

It's about as tangential to our hobby as it gets. When someone mentions an unfamiliar place or intersection, that's pretty much the first place I go.

Again, I think the rule has relaxed a bit; witness the Minor Things That Bother You Thread.
