So I went down this rabbit hole. Of the states where I have been on the longest state route:

Haven't been on 2nd longest state route
KS 9
KY 7
MO 13
SC 34
SD 20
UT 24
VT 30
WI 13
WY 59

Haven't been on 3rd longest state route
CA 33
MA 9
NY 30
OK 51

Haven't been on the 4th longest state route
NH 11

Haven't been on 11th longest state route
IL 4

Have been on all state/district routes

Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

For me in New York, it's NY 28 (5th longest in the state).

Washington: seems to be SR 206, as I have at least been on a tiny portion of the other highways listed at 0% on TM (usually not long enough for a segment, though). SR 206 is a mere 15 miles long and is the 78th longest highway in the state.

I have to go far down the list of OK routes to find one that I haven't touched

Now some of us are dying to know...

I initially didn't bother to find the answer because I figured it'd be tedious, but I forgot that Travel Mapping is quite good at distilling answers to this sort of question.

I apparently have not touched OK-30 at all, the 35th-longest route. It is both far away from me (paralleling the western OK-TX line just a few miles in) and unusually devoid of concurrencies (its only concurrencies are with Biz I-40 in Erick, a route type I usually only bother with if I'm really bored, and OK-47, a route which I have traveled so little on that it shows as zero on TM).

Maybe on my trip to Nevada next month I'll hit it up for a few miles on my way out.

The longest route in Illinois I haven't traveled is Illinois 143.  Illinois 143 is ranked 67th  :bigass:

https://travelmapping.net/user/system.php?units=miles&u=paulthemapguy&sys=usail&rg=IL

So I was looking at your map, and there's a one block segment of IL 143 in Alton that is not marked, but it's right between segments of US 67 and IL 140 that are marked, so did you overlook that or did you somehow do some weird u-turns to avoid that segment?

You're right!  I HAVE been on that tiny little niblet of IL-143!  That kicks me all the way down to IL-153, which is ranked like 114th.  I did drive a tiny piece of it to get a picture of this southern end marker, but we'll just say that doesn't count.  Overall, IL153, IL141, IL166, and IL103 are the only IL state highways for which I have no mileage.

What is the longest state route you have never been on?
...

Wow! I made it further down the list than I thought I would.
Thanks to catching a section of NY 22 last August (and the NY 365/NY 26 (#10) multiplex), I now have traveled all of the top ten.
And I have been on NY 7 and NY 104, as well, so the longest I haven't been on, at #13, is NY 32.

Finally picked up a section of NY 32 near Glens Falls, so I'm down to #18 on the list: NY 37 (127.24 miles).

Beyond that, NY 25 and NY 27 stand out as the only routes over 75 miles in length that I haven't been on.

MikieTimT

With all of the concurrencies and disconnected segments of state routes in Arkansas, this was somewhat of a nightmare to figure out, but I finally got one I have never dropped a tire on despite living in the state all of my life and travelling much of it.

Now there's likely no easy way to figure out where it ranks in terms of longest state routes.  At least not one I could be bothered with at this point.  According to Wikipedia, it has 3 segments of 54.58, 9.90, and 6.13 miles.

jlam

In Colorado, it appears to be CO 59 (#4), unless I have been on it off I-76 or in Yuma, then it will be 141 (#5).

I have since clinched MN 102, but I forgot that I hadn't (and still haven't) ever driven on MN 169, which is 48.9 miles long.

The longest highway in North Dakota that I haven't driven on is now ND 50, at 100.2 miles long.

Wisconsin: WI 33, 200.8 miles.

For the states that I have either lived in, or have significant driving mileage in:

Maryland:  MD 12 (about 30 miles) - one on my planned road trips will get some (if not all) of it.
Pennsylvania:  PA 18 (about 200 miles; longest in the state)
Florida:  FL 50 (about 120 miles; not sure how I missed it while I was there)
Virginia:  VA 40 (about 225 miles)
Delaware:  DE 30 (about 45 miles)
Washington DC:  None   :bigass:

For all states, I'm sure it would be MT 200.

Updating after a few years...

Maryland:  MD 224 (about 27 miles)
Delaware:  DE 24 (about 41 miles)   (DE 30 was truncated in 2022)

TheCatalyst31

WI: WI 40 at 80.1 miles
IL: IL 48 at 86.4 miles

Bruce

For Washington, the answer is none. I have been on a section of the four remaining unclinched routes I have left.

For Oregon, it's US 95 (123 miles) or OR 74 (82 miles). For BC, it's Highway 16 (664 miles).

roadman65

New Jersey I've been on a good part of Route 47, but need it where NJ 347 and NJ 55 bypass it. That is the states's longest state route designation.

In Louisiana to try La 1 would be a feat.  Been on it from Baton Rouge down to La Fourche Parish at La 24 so far.

OK SH 3 would be a great feat to do as well as all of TX SH 6.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

NY: NY 30 (291.13 miles)
NJ: NJ 70 (60.22 miles)
VA: VA 57 (86.45 miles)
MD: MD 32 (50.63 miles)
NC: NC 27 (197.17 miles)
DE: DE 16 (30.16 miles)  (I am looking to get a full clinch of DE eventually.)
WV: WV 20 (253.65 miles)
OH: OH 4 (209.47 miles)

*Mileage is based on Travel Mapping

I have not driven enough mileage in other states to bother.

Updating since DE is fully clinched, and I have traveled on NY 30, NJ 70 (clinched), MD 32 (clinched), WV 20, and OH 4 since my original post.  I still do not think that any other states are worth doing at the moment besides AZ since I did do a full-on trip there about a year ago.

NY:  NY 3 (244.64 miles)
NJ:  NJ 72 (29.35 miles)
MD: MD 224 (26.71 miles)
WV:  WV 10 (137.71 miles)
OH: OH 13 (165.09 miles, feels like one of the few north-south routes that I have not snuck in at least a concurrency on)
AZ: AZ 87 (286.67 miles, longest route in the state, was on my original route plan in September 2021, but got cut in the midst of redoing my route plan so that I could close the gap on US 60 between Phoenix and Globe on the Friday of that week as US 60 was closed for a bridge project on Tuesday)

Updating since MD is fully clinched in Travel Mapping now, and a few other states are worth adding IMO:

PA: PA 247 (49.74 miles, I gained mileage on PA 414 back in December 2022 while clinching PA 287)
NJ: NJ 36 (24.65 miles, I am looking to finish NJ soon at this point)
OH: OH 47 (105.80 miles, I was just east of the eastern terminus while clinching US 23 between Toledo and Columbus last month)
FL: FL 70 (150.29 miles)
IN: IN 56 (195.46 miles)
KY: KY 52 (159.86 miles)
GA: GA 7 (217.54 miles)
IL:  IL 16 (175.42 miles)
TN: TN 100 (156.71 miles)
SC: SC 34 (185.22 miles)
AR:  AR 7 (297.15 miles, longest)

I do not think I have done enough travel in other states to add them yet though LA 1, M-28, and MO 5 are the longest and my longest for those states.
I am now a PennDOT employee.  My opinions/views do not necessarily reflect the opinions/views of PennDOT.

New York has NY 5 in which I've been on parts, which is the longest in that state.

NY 17 and NY 22 are two more of the longest ( don't know which is longer) but only drove parts of them.

Need all three in the Empire State.
