Not entirely true, as it is dependent on time zone. I was the first to create a thread in 2019, almost six hours before yours when most of you were still in 2018 :sombrero: (And as of this post only Hawaii remains in 2018 IIRC). Also the first post in my true time zone was this one by oscar, at the 10th bong of the Puerta del Sol clock in Madrid, Spain:
Quote from: oscar on December 31, 2018, 06:00:27 PM
If you were sufficiently determined, you could celebrate New Year's on the international border between Yukon Territory (Pacific time zone) and Alaska (Alaska time zone). There are a few places within wide "no man's land" zones between border stations where you are unlikely to be hassled by customs agents. Indeed, one on the Alaska Highway has a bench where you can sit with one butt cheek in Pacific time and the other in Alaska time (http://www.alaskaroads.com/AK-YT-border-bench-large.jpg).
Of course, these spots are not only in the middle of nowhere, but tonight you'd be freezing your ass off (midnight wind chill just below 0F) (https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/CAXX0685:1:CA).
I gave up on public New Years' celebrations years ago (sometimes friends would invite me to a house party, but that hasn't happened lately). Past my bedtime, and I hate crowds.

I might just put a nice steak in my cast iron skillet with some real butter, salt, black pepper, and some garlic powder; & "blacken" it to a nice medium. That will go wonderfully well with the cabbage & black-eye peas I intend to cook today.

Odds are he is alive. The last POTUS to die in office was JFK. Since then we have seen Ford and Reagan survive assassination attempts while Bush II managed to deal with his choking incident and an Iraqi throwing a shoe at him. Politics aside, if you are betting on dead President occurrences, don't bet a wad of dead presidents on it happening.

Trump will be a 1-term president. (If Clinton won, she would also have been a 1-term president.) However, this is because he will lose re-election (or possibly replaced by Pence early in one of several ways), not because of death.

This is why I hate anything related to politics. X-( :banghead: :ded:
I don't think it is
guaranteed that Trump will be a one-term president.
Certainly, it is likely; presidents with Trump's approval ratings ought to have a tough time getting reelected. Further, an incumbents' margin almost always diminishes from his/her original election. In Trump's case, any diminishment of margin would almost certainly cost him reelection.
Say there's a 30% chance he will be assassinated
or removed from office
or a challenger will win the primary.
That leaves a 70% chance he will be on the ballot in November 2020.
If he's on the ballot, maybe he has a 10% chance of winning. That means his total chance of winning a second term is 0.7 × 0.1, or 7%.
A slim chance, but an existent chance nonetheless.

Early 70s + poor diet + sedentary lifestyle is a bad combination for anyone, even someone with round-the-clock monitoring. Though I guess it's possible he eats well and exercises, but hides it from his base because he thinks it'll make him less popular.

He's not doing much to get re-elected currently (he mainly panders to his ever-dwindling base, even after getting his ass handed to him in the midterms), but stranger things have happened. His election, for example.
And this idle chatter about milquetoast "unity" primary challengers in 2020 is just that, and seems to ignore the fact that his approval rating among Republicans has hovered around 90% since his inauguration.

Face it. The Democrat Party isn't what it used to be. It has gone so far left that it is losing its base. It used to be the party of the working man and middle class; it has now become the party of the out of touch social elite who would sit in their ivory towers and throw crumbs down to the minions. It has embraced the concept of government control of your life from cradle to grave. And President Trump won because of the Electoral College, which is necessary, otherwise the deep blue states of New York and California; or more specifically, NYC, LA, and the Bay Area, would control the entire country. And why are people trying to impeach him? Just because they don't agree with him politically? Enjoy the ride till 1/20/25.

The Democrats weren't supposed to retake the House until 2022 at the earliest, and that was assuming generally favorable census results. They managed to do it four years earlier thanks to Trump's massive unpopularity and the fact that he's taken the party so far to the right. Including huge wins in what you people charmingly refer to as Real America. Doesn't sound like a party on the decline to me.

Maybe we become obsolete when the available upgrades no longer improve performance and total system failure is imminent. I'd hate to think we become obsolete when we stop being compatible with other platforms.

I wasn't aware that this was a big deal. I was on the road in the middle of nowhere at midnight last night and really wasn't thinking about making the first post of the year on this site at that moment.
It's not a big deal, but there are some members on this forum with too much time on their hands and misplaced priorities who do think it's a big deal.

Looks to be that way. Myself I post when I can and don't dwell on how many posts I make here. Looks like some people really need to get their priorities straight.

I just look at this way: They had nothing better to do when the clock struck midnight, so why not try and be the first post of the new year? It wouldn't matter to me personally , but it certainly doesn't scream LOSER either. Just something fun to do once a year, I suppose.

I understand that joke (barely).
I can't believe it's not butter, and dogs don't know it's not bacon.
I got to be the first one to lock the first topic of 2019!
