I've noticed that a number of you have posted some scanned pages of Thomas Guides from the 50's - 70's ; and  I am excited as heck about this  :bigass:
My favourites thusfar have been the pages for "Dairy Land" (Cerritos) and especially the '68 RivCo / San Berdoo images .
A huge "THANK YOU!" to those whom have shared their visual fortunes with us  :clap:

With this in-mind : I'm wondering if anyone has some close-up , detailled scans of the entire stretch of CA 71 , as it was from US 91 / CA 91 down to the San Diego County line ?
I'll shoot off some P.M.'s as well .

CA-71 was signed all the way down to the San Diego county line?  I know this was the case in 1934-35, but I thought US-395 replaced it that year from what is now the 15-215 split.

I'd like to see pics of the entire CA-71, too. I know the current CA-371 is part of what was once CA-71, but I don't think I've ever seen a map of the entire route.

did not know about that eastward extension.  but, looking at the current map, I see CA-371 even further east, and I believe that is an old 71 extension.  so it looks like 71 hooked east for quite a distance at some point.

doesn't look like it ever, after 1935, crossed the county line into San Diego County.

Ah yes. SR 371 was 71 from 1964 to 1974.

I vaguely remember CA 71 in Lake Elsinore , and its multiple accesses vis-a-vie street-level crossings . Some relatives lived there in the 60's-70's ; we visited them in circa '74 , when Bundy Canyon was still a street-cross interchange .

CA 71 --aside from the Corona Expressway-- ran from CA 31 (Hamner-Milliken / Main Street in Corona) ; down Ontario ("Old Temescal Canyon" east of the freeway) to its name change at Temescal Canyon Road ; following Temescal to Lake Street in Unincorporated RivCo ; cut-southwest to Nichols Road ; Nichols to Collier (this is where I've "lost track" as I-15 was built atop much of the old 71 portions) ; eventually swinging southeast toward Agunga / CA 371 (3rd spur of 71 ?) .

WhEw! That's a lot to keep track of !

I-15 was "borrowed" from the old Long Beach Freeway designation (CA 15 , prior to 1964) ; and I-15's original routing followed present-day I-215 , until circa 1972 when it was renumbered I-15E.

As a side-note : I-215 (et seq.) is technically an expressway for much of its "new" portions (between CA 74 (old US 395) and I-15) ; its actual name is "Escondido Expressway".

Wasn't it 71 before 1964? Prior to 1964, CA-79 came directly south from Hemet along what is now County R-3 and 71 came due east from U.S. 395 and continued on to CA-74.

Note that Legislative Route 277 was not a state highway until 1959.

To follow up on what NE2 said, this is all actually freeway - there haven't been any intersections on 215 since 1994.
