Back in 2015 and 2016 I visited Great Sands Dunes National Park & Preserve via CO 150.  CO 150 has an interesting backstory as it was added to the Colorado State Highway System in the late 1920s.  CO 150 originally ascended Mosca Pass which had been a Tolled Wagon Road between 1871-1911.  At some point (likely in 1939) sections of CO 150 east of the Great Sand Dunes to Mosca Pass were wiped out in a flood.  CO 150 over Mosca Pass was never repaired and the whole highway was decommissioned in 1954.  CO 150 would be revived in 1960 between Mosca and the Great Sand Dunes only to be deleted again in 1973.  CO 150 would be revived in it's current form originating from US 160 in 1974.  The Great Sand Dunes are the tallest in the United States and were declared a National Monument in 1932, by 2004 they obtained National Park status.  I made an attempt for the High Dune in 2015 but didn't quite make it before sundown hit.
