California SR 42 signs on La Cienega Blvd., Inglewood
« on: November 25, 2021, 06:39:05 PM »

California SR 42 (Manchester Blvd) was decommissioned some years back, however two signs remain in Inglewood, where La Cienega Blvd. bridges over I-405.  There are two BGS in the southbound lanes on the bridge; see pics attached.

The La Cienega pictures are from October 2021; the overhead picture is from November 2021.

This general location can also be seen, here facing north from a plane approaching LAX.
La Cienega is the roadway heading away from the camera; it divides into separate bridges to cross over I-405.
The roadway that crosses left to right in the foreground is Florence Ave.
Manchester Blvd. is out of the frame, below the lower edge of the picture.

These signs at this point have to be in city control. Caltrans no longer has control of these signs ever since they decommissioned CA-42 and La Cinega BLVD. Note La Cinega BLVD was originally supposed to be an extension of CA-170.

Those are pretty cool.  I tried to find some CA 42 signage when I went to a Rams game last month but had no luck.

Yeah I'm angry I didn't know about these when I clinched former 42.

Yeah I'm angry I didn't know about these when I clinched former 42.

Imagine how I felt knowing the general idea of where they were but traffic control leaving a game not permitting me to reach them.   :-/

Nice spot. Still a few places where ghostly 42s remain as consolation prizes. There's one on the EB I-105 to NB I-605 flyover we always see heading inland from LAX.

Here’s a new sign on the Long Beach Freeway

GMSV indicates that sign is old, it's been around (with the remnant CA 42 marker) since at least 2012.

Interestingly CA-42 has been gone for 20 years. But the signs still exist. CA-42 was also CA-105 in some sections.
There is also a map indicating that CA-42 was supposed to be in parts of CA-90 in the Yorba Linda area.

It's even more dumbfounding knowing that CA-42 was decommissioned in 2000, and there are so many new reflective signs saying "Manchester Blvd 42" on the 605 and 405. So you know that those were erected years AFTER the route was decommissioned.

Also former CA-42 has been with the County of Los Angeles and the cities that cover the route for 20 years it's probably one of a few city streets that's still well signed 20 years after it's official decommission. Note initially the decommission was in response to CalTrans using the funds to maintain I-105 freeway.
