1970s kids' books

I remember a lot of interesting children's books when I was growing up that were written in the 1970s or earlier. They instilled an appreciation of literacy!

I remember a book in the '70s that was a dictionary for small children. Each word was illustrated with a color drawing. The last part of the book though was all boring text in really small print. But this book was practically all ripped to shreds when I had it.

I remember another book that had a really cool drawing of an ice cream parlor.

I read many children's books between 2004 and 2010 (the former being my birth year), and looking back many of them are from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. These include Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (39), Goodnight Moon (47), Cat in the Hat (57), Where the Wild Things Are (63), The Very Hungry Caterpillar (69), and many more. In fact I don't remember reading many from the 80s or 90s (save some Sandra Boynton).

I remember a book about some kid who finds a balloon and carries it around all the time until a gang of hooligans destroys it by throwing rocks at it. The unusual thing about this book is that it used photos rather than drawings.

I have a kids' book about dinosaurs that I remember being from the 1960s or 1970s. Printed on the front cover of the book is 39¢.

I just remembered a pop-up book about dinosaurs that had an orange cover. I had forgotten about it for the past 40 years.

I believe such was titled Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel.

I remember Little Golden Books being all the rage in the 1970's.  My childhood bookcase was full of them.
