From WFAA (ABC) Dallas:

Study says DFW has the worst drivers in Texas and nearly all of the U.S
Both Dallas and Fort Worth landed in the top 10 of Forbes Advisor's rankings, at No. 6 and No. 9, respectively.

A new ranking broke down the cities with the worst drivers in the country. And North Texas did not fare well.

Both Dallas and Fort Worth landed in the top 10 of Forbes Advisor's rankings, at No. 6 and No. 9, respectively.

The study analyzed several factors, per 100,000 residents, including the number of fatal accidents, fatal accidents involving a drunk driver, fatal accidents involving a distracted driver and fatal accidents involving speeding.

That list is mainly a list of sprawled out cities. That does not mean the drivers themselves are bad; it means the roads are designed in a way that there are more fatalities.

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

It's the only city where I've had another vehicle's bumper make contact with mine while doing 60 mph down a freeway.

I can't say I'm surprised an article would suggest motorists in DFW are the worst in Texas or even the nation. When I drive there from Lawton I have to get into a completely different mindset as soon as I reach the outskirts of Decatur.

In Lawton I have to put up with a large number of slow, obstructionist drivers. They'll whip out in front of you and then do 20mph under the posted speed limit. DFW is the opposite. I could be driving 5mph over the speed limit going past Bowie, worried I'm pushing my luck with Texas DPS patrols there. A little farther South people are blasting by me like I'm standing still. Some of these people have to be doing over 100mph.

That and the posted limits within Texas cities including DFW are often 70 MPH, which is likely higher than other states.   I wouldn't have it any other way, though.

Plus, everyone knows Houston has the worst drivers.

Does not. It is definitely Dallas/Ft Worth. And I can’t think of any freeway in Houston that’s 70 MPH except maybe some stretches of the beltway or grand parkway.

I can certainly believe this.  In NWA, we get a large contigent of Texans at the U of A, and it's certainly apparent where the majority of those cutting me off, forgoing the use of turn signals, and blowing past me at 80+ MPH on I-49 are from.  One of the few downsides of going from 4-6 lanes to 6-8 lanes throughout the area.  They think they're still back home...

It can be scary driving in DFW sometimes.

In BR we have the opposite problem: folx who drive extremely slow in the right lane on freeways.

FWIW, these are the Top 25 in the nation:

Quote from: WFAA-TV Dallas
Here's the full Top 25:
1. Albuquerque, New Mexico
2. Memphis, Tennessee
3. Detroit, Michigan
4. Tucson, Arizona
5. Kansas City, Missouri
6. Dallas, Texas
7. Louisville, Kentucky
8. Phoenix, Arizona
9. Fort Worth, Texas
10. Tampa, Florida
11. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
12. San Antonio, Texas
13. Tulsa, Oklahoma
14. Jacksonville, Florida
15. Charlotte, North Carolina
16. Atlanta, Georgia
17. Nashville, Tennessee
18. Wichita, Kansas
19. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
20. El Paso, Texas
21. Indianapolis, Indiana
22. Fresno, California
23. Houston, Texas
24. Austin, Texas
25. Bakersfield, California

Surprised that none of the three largest cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago) are on it (nor is Washington, DC)? I certainly am!

Maybe I'm just accustomed to it, but I've driven across Dallas for years and have adjusted to the patterns. Rule No. 1 = DO NOT get in the leftmost lane south of 635, because everyone else tries it and it ends up the slowest lane.

I just avoid it. I can't wait for that Interstate 635 East project to be completed.... along with the Silver Line project.

Having lived in Kansas City for many years, there's no way they're near the top of the list. As a blanket statement, I can put Texas and Florida drivers at the top of any list.

Yeah, the fact that KC tops DFW proves the study is bunk.

Although, having been to Albuquerque many times as well (my BIL and SIL live there), I can attest to a good amount of bad drivers; they generally have Texas plates.

I'm sure people in every city would say that they have the worst drivers in the entire country. Of course, perception is subject to interpretation. We've all seen drivers whom we think should go back to driving school, and there are drivers who shouldn't be on the roads in the first place (drunk drivers being the epitome). I don't know how accurate the study is, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some bias in it. After all, DFW's freeway/tollway system is very extensive.

Having lived in the Sacramento and DFW areas for my driving life, plus having driven in San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose Bay Area, my response to "which area has the worst drivers is".... doesn't matter, all are good reasons to have a dash cam mounted.
