Have we talked about the Turbo Roundabout on CA-25

https://sanbenito.com/new-turbo-roundabout-open-at-highways-25-156/

I drove through this weekend.  Its legit, as  Roundabouts go.

Here is the webcam. https://cwwp2.dot.ca.gov/vm/loc/d5/sr156sr25.htm

Saves me a crap ton of frustration when I passed through the area every month.

There was quite a bit of controversy when the roundabout first opened (mostly negative).  There was a story by a local TV news station - https://www.ksbw.com/article/several-crashes-california-two-weeks-opening-san-benito-county-turbo-roundabout/60034442. I haven't heard much feedback on it in a while - I guess everyone's adjusted well to it in the last few months.

Max Rockatansky

A lot of normals were in fear of having to use a roundabout.

What is the fastest route to Drive San Francisco to Tucson?

Google wants to route over the Grapevine and 210 into Palm Springs.

Would it be faster to take I5 to CA- 58 To I40 to Us95 to I10?

Any other options?

Slowest would be I-80 to I-11. You'd need to wait forever until the latter is built.

I think Google is correct, assuming no disruptions from accidents or construction. But your suggestion is close, less likely to be disrupted by traffic, and a much nicer drive. If you drag the route to I-40, Google says it will take almost an hour longer, but I think it's worth it. Also, if you're not driving during rush hour, you might consider 99 over I-5, because you don't get stuck as often behind a truck inching its way past another truck.

Max Rockatansky

Depends on the traffic.  I usually make the transition from I-10 to Barstow via CA 177, CA 62 and CA 247.  Might not be the paper fastest, but nobody will be out there.

I have done this drive from the Bay Area a couple times a year for the last 2 years, since my daughter is now a student in Tempe.  As others have said the I-5 -> I/CA-210 -> I-10 route is the fastest provided you time it such not to hit traffic.  If you have a passenger, the HOV lanes on 210 do make a difference.  That said, even the mid-day traffic between Pasadena and San Dimas can be brutal.

I have tried using a detour similar to yours, by way of Parker and Vicksburg, connecting between I-40 and I-10 by way of US-95 -> CA-62 -> AZ-95 -> AZ-72 -> Vicksburg Road.  There should be zero traffic on that route, outside of Bay Area / Phoenix areas, and if you factor in the traffic jams that frequently happen either on 210 or over the grapevine, the amount of time it takes is a wash.

Caltrans got federal funding for a new high tech ramp metering system on 680 that will determine how much traffic is in each lane, identifying gaps, and adjusting the timing of the meters accordingly.

I'm glad they are doing something.  Living adjacent to I-680, I can attest to the congestion being worse than ever.  One of the biggest culprits Northbound is the gap in the HOV / Express lane between Livorna Rd and CA-242.  It's my understanding that the reason why they did not continue the lane through that stretch is inadequate sight lines beneath the CA-242 overcrossing.  The weave pattern between North Main Street and Treat Boulevard is also to blame, and this stretch is conveniently within the area that lacks the continuous HOV / Express lane.

It is frustrating how rarely District 4 and the CCTA update any of the project info on their websites, it makes it difficult to figure out what is being planned and the status of ongoing projects.

California's third DDI is coming to the Bay Area! (SR 37 at Fairgrounds Drive)

I wonder how that'll work out. DDIs are great when the lesser road doesn't see much through traffic, but this location looks like it probably does, meaning they'd often have to wait for two lights.

I heard about this recently, interesting that California is only getting its third DDI with how many freeways they have and how populated they are. I'm guessing it's because there aren't many interchanges with suitable options for DDI's?

It's time to throw a DDI party.

I know about the DDI in Manteca (at CA 120 and Union Road) but where is the other one?

I swear I made a thread somewhere about this, but I guess not. I don't feel like making a new one, so I'll just post it here. The North First Avenue Bridge in Barstow is essentially complete. I know this is probably silly cause they're probably in much use for it, but it would be cool if they would preserve the old bridge for hikers or wildlife or something.

I went through there a month ago, and they had already torn most of it down. And there's not really any wildlife around there. At least not since they closed the Harvey House.

Max Rockatansky

I never got the impression 1st Avenue Bridge was well liked.  Most Barstow and Mojave groups I'm part of on Facebook seem to be happy it is replaced. Got my photos of the structure awhile back:

Here's a pic from 2008:

Not sure why this board won't show this full sized, so open the image in a new tab. It's a three-shot pano.
