"The" is okay, but anything calling itself "Thee" is just plain unctuous.

Unless you're performing Shakespeare.

that 13 is in really nice shape!

Okla diamonds aren't too rare, but a lot of them are really chewed up.

What's so interesting about SD 1806 being placed in a boring square? Woudn't it usually be in a 'Young Face' SD Outline shield?

The 24 shield is a North Dakota shield, not a South Dakota shield. SD shields are shaped like South Dakota.

Fuckin right.
Oh, that's way less interesting than you made it out to be when you told me about it. Those are just new shields to an outdated spec.

I just realized there's far more posts in the "Worst of" than in this thread.

A state-named I-64 shield, located in Charlottesville. Looks fairly new.

agentsteel53

even more interesting, a '61 spec US-29 shield.  standard '61s are very rare in Virginia.  usually they use a slightly different shield shape.

Coming in the next update: state-name I-87 on NY 74 WB. Until then, enjoy this crappy street view.

If I'm not mistaken, the '61 spec wasn't terribly rare around the US 250 Bypass.

Correct - a good deal of older style signage on the 250 bypass east of US 29.

US 29 Bus, US 250 Bus and VA 20 also have/had a bunch of this style of shield in central Charlottesville

One of the rare state-name I-39 shields you'll ever see.

Plus some button copy and an old-school US 51 marker.

This is on private property (the Merrifield Garden Center in Falls Church, Virginia) and maybe it's not really a "road sign" per se, but I get a kick out of it every time I see it. Rather odd spelling with "throughway," but what I like is the part about the "severe drop off" because it makes me wonder how many accidents they had that prompted the sign. The second photo is taken from the far side after I had parked and shows what you encounter if you ignore the sign.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"

He said, "Madam, I just clocked you at 22 MPH," and she said "That's the speed limit," he said "No ma'am, that's the route numbah!"  - Gary Crocker

it's not even an old standard for South Dakota.  it's an old standard, kinda, for South Carolina.

24x24 shields with extra large initials are 1948 spec, but the proportions are still different.

:hmmm:  It's neutered!  Definitely not a candidate for Best of...

I don't think I've ever seen a non-neutered pavement interstate shield.
