Looks pretty darn close to Series D. Except for the Catholic-style lowercase a.

Catholic-style?

ICTRds

I assume that is a term for the single-story "a" formed by essentially adding a line to an "o" (i.e., how most people handwrite their a's, which is different from the two-story "a" glyph found in most typefaces).

By that I mean typography that looks like block print handwriting style, like this: http://www.k12reader.com/handwriting-practice-worksheets-block-style-print/.  I've always associated these letter forms with Catholicism, probably because I saw them in Catholic school materials and other Catholic publications, while the public elementary school I attended taught D'Nealian handwriting (with the little tails) and otherwise generally used more traditional typography.
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

I suppose that makes sense. All I remember of Catholic handwriting was the Palmer method, as taught by Sr. Mary Doreen. She'd slap me if she saw how I sign my name now!

I wish MT brings it back to use on the rest of the shields, not just US 20. I actually like that font better than FHWA standards, but not to take away from FHWA standards, mainly because the font facing was modeled partially after Maine or even Maryland. In fact, in Frenchtown where I grew up, a SPEED LIMIT 35 sign could be seen in Montana's native font. Unfortunately, I don't believe it stands today since I believe it may have been replaced.
Finally upgraded to Expressway after, what, seven or so years on this forum? Took a dadgum while, but, I made it!

Montana 482 shields built to the 1948 shield spec!

Where exactly is this located?

Here's how to fish.

"Montana Secondary Highway 482 - Libby to xx" (yeah, shitty entry, but it's enough)
Now pull up a map of Libby and find Pearl Street.

Currently displayed on I-15 and I-40 near Barstow is, quite possibly, the first ever appearance of Zzyxzx on a VMS. Sadly, it's due to a fatal crash.

It's also misspelled. (Am I allowed to say that, with the new forum rule?)

D'oh! I thought something felt wrong when I typed that, but I didn't bother checking. File under "Erroneous," too!

Does Google get the text from the DOT automatically, or does someone type it in? It might be Google's fault.

is that in Virginia?  correct '61 spec shields (like the 29s) are very rare in that state - most look like the 250.

I'm 99% certain that's in Charlottesville (as I said before, near the Sigma Nu house).

Yeah, you got the intersection right.

I haven't noticed any 'lack' of them (but I do not pay much attention...)
There are also some with 250 in the 'correct' shield:

(The 64 shield threw of the symmetry of these... its at the same intersection)
