going the beach to hang ten or smoking a huge joint? in California one can do both. (almost)

Wasn't this already posted in the Vandilized signs thread?  :pan:

It can be both.

Not really the best, but we need a break from smokeboarder.

I think this is a very tasteful one-piece, and would suffer from the MUTCD-mandated green background:
pre-1945 Florida route log

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

I think that would look better in the Ohio layout: one shield, with cardinals over arrows on either side.
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

I must have missed that one when I was there in 2007.  I snagged this photo which must be from nearby.

I have photos from 2008:

There are craploads of old signs, error signs and sine salad from that area on these pages:

I passed those but didn't get photos of them. Turning left onto 58 west from my photo takes you past them.

Old 60's-era street signs still in use in many places in Louisburg, Kan. This is one of a few which is still in pretty good condition.

Side note: The numbered streets in Louisburg actually run east-west. They're named based on whether they're north or south of Amity St. (K-68), so there is also a "North 2nd St." north of K-68.

Originally, the numbered streets began at Metcalf (Old U.S. 69) and the addresses increased going west. When Louisburg expanded east of Metcalf and the streets were extended, they had a bit of a problem. So if the street is west of Metcalf, the address is just "000 South 2nd St." If it's east of Metcalf, it's "000 South 2nd St. East."

I like the old wire-span stret light.  Used to be a lot of those on I-84 in CT around Danbury, until widening took place in the 1980s.  Still some around though.

1980's White on lack speed limit sign.  I-84 EB West Hartford, CT.  The "50" is a non-button copy patch.  The sign is button copy but you wouldn't know it based on the photo glare.

^^ LOL!  It is accurate, there is a a hole there, but in English slang, there is a second, unintended meaning.

I thought the sign was saying "Hey asshole, watch the fuck out."

Oh, the hyphen was BEFORE the A and not in between it and hole.

LeHay font US 202 shield in Auburn, ME. This is one of the only LeHay 202s I know of left out in the field, since MaineDOT has gone on a purge on most of their LeHay signs in the last several years...

Am I the only one who loves the railroad crossing ahead sign in the lower right?

JoePCool14

While it is an interesting design, I don't care for it.

After my European trip, I have come to this conclusion: U.S. signs are hard to understand for foreigners.

:) Needs more... :sombrero: Not quite... :bigass: Perfect.

And to think that I find European guide signs to be difficult to understand (especially since I use a route/direction system for navigating, not a destination system).

agreed.  it presumes a knowledge of where individual cities are.  I'd like to think I'm fairly good at geography and even then I had to stop and look at the map on occasion.

You know, there's new old stock, there's using old specs, and then there's completely inventing old-style specs for new signs. Norman has given us the beauty that is an outline meat cleaver. Revel in it.

I think this cements Norman's traffic control division as the best transportation agency in the state of Oklahoma.

It hasn't been replaced because it is still doing its job well (not counting the tree covering it).

All kidding aside (I like the sign, actually), don't most states have a sign-replacement schedule? Or is this a city sign and said rule does not exist?
