** don't tell ConnDOT! **

I see, I'll need to check that out when I head to Boston next month!

It took me less than a minute to find it on Google street view. Since we're paranoid here, maybe I shouldn't even be telling you that.

I've actually been more free about giving the locations of old signs nowadays, but I will admit, I was paranoid about it before.

that's still around?  damn!

I spotted it in Nov 2006.  I believe it is a 24 incher, which is actually an uncommon size for a state-named Conn shield.

I had totally forgotten that it existed.  It has to be one of the southernmost mentions of US-5: the reason I found it is because I was searching for 5's south terminus.

Here are a few goodies from yesterday (yes, white on black button copy sign in the second photo!)

What's that 'No truck 102' sign?  If it's height, that's a damn low bridge!

I think it might have to do with the length of the truck.

froggie

Width, actually.  Trucks that are 102" wide or wider, and double-trailer trucks, are effectively limited to the National Network, unless making local deliveries.

That 20MPH advisory sign in the first picture belongs in that other thread, though!  :-D
This is cu2010, reminding you, help control the ugly sign population, don't have your shields spayed or neutered.

I hope this still exists...

Old button copy shields... 21×18 I-5 shield and 28×24 US-97 shield, circa 1961 or so.

Two more that I think are great...

I like that style of support posts.  I've never seen anything like it before.

agentsteel53

the 97 is gone.  I don't believe there are any more button copy US-97 shields left anywhere.

Wasn't sure where to put this since both the sign and the error on it are quite old, so I decided to put it here.

This style of advance signage is excellent. It should be extended to all other surface street highways and roads across the US.

NJ uses it quite a bit.

the specification is 1961, but I believe the sign was a CA-73

Here's another nice one out in the Mojave:

The 95 shield is a bit of a mystery, though. It's very similar to the old shields seen in Virginia, as well as this US-6 shield in Bishop:

Never could much info or specs on that style shield. Regardless, though, it's a nice looking sign gantry, complete with a '57 spec I-40 shield.

Here's one I found today that I kind of like - although I now really dislike the lack of a direct freeway-freeway ramp that makes this sign necessary:

where is that?  attempting to kill the street-view and go back to map mode is causing google maps to seize up on me.  (did I mention it's been sucking for me lately?)

no, it's perfectly well-signed.  and soon we'll hopefully have state-named shields for it.  I've never seen an example of one.
