They seem to be posted inconspicuously along county or other unsigned routes, but I've seen one along a state road.

Any idea what this stands for? (I'm guessing "State of Alabama...")







The arrows look similar to this type used on a Federal Aid Secondary sign...

these are some great finds.  I love the old concrete posts - that actually denotes a state highway, I believe, so the project must start at the boundary with state-maintained land.
