Not sure if this is the place for this, but I thought I would start a little game. Guess That Bridge is as simple as it sounds, Guess the bridge! Almost any bridges are allowed, but:
—No immediately recognizable bridge pics. The point of this game is to have to think a bit.
—No unrecognizable bridge pics. It has to have a somewhat distinct feature, so that overpass by your house probably won’t work here.
—photo editing is encouraged, but follow the rules above. If you couldn’t recognize the picture after 6 months of not seeing it, it’s probably not going to be guessed.
The bridges DO NOT need to be road bridges! Do you know a cool train bridge? Put it! Is there a bridge that carries a set of rails to roll barracks of bourbon across the road? Post it here! Someone may know it!
With the image guidelines in place, we can move onto guessing. Here are some guidelines:
—Guess the name and/or location of the bridge. Both local and formal names are accepted. Examples of guesses might be: the War Mother’s Memorial Bridge; OR the Capitol St Bridge; OR the bridge that leads to the capitol in Frankfort, KY. Just make the bridge in question obvious.
—To make a guess, quote the original post, without the picture.
—The first person who gets their guess correct (as confirmed by the poster) gets to post a new picture to guess. If they do not post a picture within 24 hours, someone else can post one.
—If no one guesses it within a week, the guessing has stalled. That’s OK, after a wile, someone can post a new picture to guess.

Close, it’s a bit to the west. It does look similar though. This bridge has 5 Pennsylvania truss spans, not just 3. If you have been on the Bourbon Trail, you will have probably seen it.

It's probably not right, but is this a bull shoals lake bridge of some sort, i am getting MO ozarks vibes from it. BUt the two i know of (160 and MO76) are 10 and were 6 spans each respectively.

Can't ID the road much less the bridge (haven't been that far north), but I'm guessing this is a bridge over the Yukon River and therefore is somewhere in the Yukon Territory.

Close enough. The car is on the old Douglass Bridge because the new one isn't open yet, but those arches are the new bridge, so I think either or both would have been a perfectly good answer because it shows you recognize where the picture is of. It's not really "into DC," of course, because it connects two parts of DC separated by the Anacostia River, but again, that's picking nits because you knew which bridge it is.
I thought that one might have taken a little longer. Oh well!

I didn't use an image search, but I did find it by looking for "old suspension bridge 1930s."
I had a good idea of what part of the country it was in, so I did a search of things like "suspension bridge Arkansas" and "suspension bridge Missouri".

Huh. You must have better luck than me, because I just tried that myself and didn't find this one.
But, yes, that is correct. A classic Mississippi river crossing complete with the barge and the sunset!

The landscape should've also been a big hint it wasn't in the Ozarks/AR/MO/whatever area, you definitely won't see boreal trees like that there

I was looking around there prior to the clue, because of the mountain off to the side and the boreal forest surrounding the area. My guess is the Colwitz bridge on I-5.

Geographically you're a moderate distance away. It's also on a surface road.

index hasn’t been online since 1:00 this morning, per the profile info, and it’s none of my business why not. My thought is—MCRoads has dibs on the next photo as far as I’m concerned, so let’s give it overnight. If there’s no new entry by the time I look at the forum while eating breakfast tomorrow morning, I’ll post one of the ones I have queued up and ready to go.

With neither index (who could confirm 1995hoo's correct answer) nor MCRoads (the OP and previous correct guesser) having logged in recently, 1995hoo going ahead with a new photo tomorrow morning seems reasonable.
As this situation points up, it doesn't make sense to require confirmation from the person that posted the photo, since there's no commitment to be here and people come and go on their own time. Unless anyone has a better idea, my suggestion would be that from now on, anyone can verify a correct answer.

You are correct. See, I knew this one was too easy. I took that picture on July 23, 2007, from the deck of Holland America's Veendam at the start of our Baltic Sea cruise (we had just left Copenhagen and were headed to Tallinn next). Hence why I said earlier that the Street View car wouldn't be able to duplicate the photo.
I have not been over the bridge-tunnel except insofar as the ship "passed over" the tunnel portion. Didn't have much time. We flew into Copenhagen the day before the cruise began, and when we got back there at the end we flew out later the same day.

It's quite the impressive feat of engineering...I knew people in college who studied abroad in Copenhagen, and I've been wanting to find a reason to go check it out ever since.

I don't see a need to be so irate over this, not everyone constantly checks replies to their stuff. I have a life. This is a niche forum, not social media, things can wait some hours. I don't have any real reason to log on and check things multiple times a day considering the pace of things here. I second what webny is saying:

Yeah, I understand that. Looking at the times when you post (1:00 AM, 4:30 AM) strongly suggests to me you're on a very different schedule from many of us and thus you should not be expected to reply during the day!

Oh, that’s a pretty picture. I hope it gets rehabbed too, but at the same time, I like the color now (I’m guessing it is just old concrete), it fits very well with the landscape.

Side note: I appreciated the effort MDOT SHA made to preserve the historic look when it received an extensive rehab in 2012. The temporary bridges used during construction were pretty impressive too.

You are correct, and the Street View link you posted is from almost exactly the same place where I took the photo (I just zoomed in more). We had walked down that way hoping to go into Uspenski Cathedral up on the hill to the right, but the cathedral was closed.

Just so this isn’t impossible, I’ll give you a few hints:
1. If you have driven on I-85 in NC, you have probably been close to it. I myself have been on that road, but didn’t stop to see it.
2. You may have seen this bridge before, but maybe not in person. I know I have!

Heh, I've driven under that bridge many times because I lived a short distance away during my three years at Duke. Passing under that bridge was the best route back to the Durham Freeway after a visit to one of the pubs in that area.
Because I will be in an area with no service for a while, someone who hasn't already posted a bridge may now do so. I want to keep the game going..

Correct. This old bridge was actually supposed to be demolished a month ago. However, new public interest in saving the bridge has led to the project being put on hold. I was on my way to the St. Francois Mountain region of MO and figured I would visit it on my way there, before it was too late.

Definitely not. The arches on the Brooklyn Bridge’s towers are pointed on top and there are two arches per tower.
I'm guessing it’s the Wheeling Suspension Bridge.

Yeah, that's definitely it. IMO it's one of those bridges where, if you know it, you'll know it when you see it every time. The only other thing you could really confuse it with is the Roebling Bridge in Cincinnati and even then that has big differences.

Correct! I had to look up the name of the bridge because I never knew what it was, but yes, we were in Sitka for the day in 2005 and I have several pictures of that bridge, which was obviously under construction at the time.
I thought about whether to use a more zoomed-out picture to try to make it tougher because from certain angles, the mountain in the background (not visible in the picture above, of course) might look a little like Mount Fuji to some viewers.

There is only a couple of cities in the US I know that have reversible roads on bridges, and one is Pittsburgh, so it wouldn’t have been hard. There is also one in Cincinnati, And a couple in DC, as one has a temporary setup for construction. And of course there is the bay bridge as well.

Correct! In July 2007 we were headed westbound from Louisbourg to the Keltic Lodge and stopped after crossing the bridge to take pictures. I had previously been across that bridge twice in 1982, but finding those pictures (if my father had any) would be much more difficult.

Good educated guess, then. My first thought was the Goethals Bridge or the Outerbridge, but I quickly realized those had to be wrong due to the surroundings and that made it easier.
This one should be very easy for someone to get. I took the photo and I’ve always liked the way the bridge frames the image.

Looks like a small town in a hilly but not mountainous area. So it could be New England, certain parts of Appalachia, or even the Driftless Area of the Midwest (though the lad who posted it is from Virginia so I doubt that).

Interestingly, there was also a Battle of Philippi in 1861 at the town where the covered bridge is located. My second clue denoted that when the original bridge was built, the town was in Virginia. ("Original bridge" denoting that it has been substantially rebuilt due to a fire.) There's a story that President Davis met Abraham Lincoln on that bridge at some point to discuss peace terms, but it's almost certainly not true.

Heh, I was quite careful which photo I chose because there was a gas station just to the left of my vantage point when I took that photo and its sign says "Mountaineer Mart." It's partly visible in one of my photos and it would have given it away instantly! (The picture was taken on October 20, 2017, and I haven't passed that way again since then, so I don't know for certain whether that gas station is still there under the same name. Google Maps suggests it is.)

The original railings were in use until the 2010s when the entire deck was redone. Afaik only the piers and draw spamln are original now

Was one of the first to be built for I95 in NC. Exit 70 to 79 was built in 1954 and completed in 1956, way before the Interstate program was passed.

As for the current picture, I feel like that's the Shelby Rhinehart Memorial Bridge, but I can't say for sure.

The clue about the three counties actually led me to Manchester, NH (knowing it was probably in MA or NH) but that wasn't one of the bridges I checked, and I'm not sure if I would have pegged it even if it was.

The Queen City Bridge is correct, for mine.
To explain my hint a bit, the city limits versus the county lines in Manchester are disputed, depending on what source you use and who you talk to. However, some people consider Manchester to straddle portions of Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Merrimack counties. It's one of the only places that I know of where a single city rests in more than two counties.
Of course, Manchester is also known as The Queen City, hence the city being "Elizabeth".

Here's another clue: This bridge crosses a river with a name due opposite of its location relative to mine.
And another anecdotal clue: It is visible from Street View. When I first verified this, the image(s) I found showed the sign with the bridge name visible in plain sight. I got really nervous that I had done the same thing, and quickly rushed back here to double-check - only to realize, of course, that I had enough sense to post a picture of the opposite opening. Whew!

Likely because of the border crossing. The fact that it's NEXUS only means it's by far the least-used of the Niagara crossings, but it's still plenty busy - and had been getting progressively busier every summer until COVID hit.

Yeah, it does - and the Wikipedia page about the bridge has a very similar photo as well. Getting there was a bit of a hassle, because the route there involved going through nearby Humansville, and all the roads going in to town were blocked because the town was rigged to explode. Unsafe amounts of gasoline leaked in to the city's sewer system but has since been resolved.

That's the original Keokuk-Hamilton Bridge over the Mississippi River. If I recall correctly, that bridge was originally a double-decker road/rail bridge with a toll highway, similar to the still-operating Fort Madison Bridge. Not sure if the railroad portion still exists, but I know that the highway deck was removed when the new girder bridge was built to bypass it, but one of the approaches was reused as an overlook.

Highly unlikely. Cigarettes only get hot enough to ignite gasoline when they're being smoked. The entire trip from the person's mouth through the air and down the drain, it would be cooling off precipitously.
I worked with a guy who said that, during his time in the army in Iraq, he and his fellow soldiers would occasionally flick lit cigarettes into buckets of gasoline to put them out.
Remember, kids: Just because something happens in the movies, that doesn't mean it happens in real life.

1995hoo got it. As noted in the picture of the plaque, the bridge is officially the Korean and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge, but still commonly known as the Lagoon Pond Bridge, which was the name of the original bridge at this location. This is one of only three actively operating single-leaf bascule highway bridges that I know of (the others being the Neil R. Underwood/Hampton Harbor Bridge and some bridge in northeastern Michigan that I don't know the name of).
For the record, I intentionally distorted the photo to blur the name on the Town Line sign - it's clearly visible in the original photo. Since I know that MA has distinctive signs like that, this was one of those where a hint was contained within the picture itself.

I don’t know the formal name for this bridge, but I am going to guess that it is the Stillwater Crossing in MN/WI.

^ That is correct! It actually doesn't have a "formal" name other than St. Croix Crossing, which doubled as the name of the project when it was built about a decade ago. It replaces the historic Stillwater lift bridge 2 miles north, which is now a bike/pedestrian-only crossing.

I recall the bridge seeming like it was in relatively decrepit shape even in 1981. My brother, who generally doesn't pay attention to things like roads and bridges (and who was six years old that summer), still remembers what he calls the "Green Bridge in Maine" that seemed like it was going to collapse into the river. That 1981 trip was the only time I've ever been that way—when we passed through Bar Harbor the next summer to get the ferry to Nova Scotia, we went around via Bangor instead. In 1981 we were headed to East Sullivan to visit family friends.

jlam, You are correct!
For those who don't know of this bridge, it is part of FL 20 in the Florida panhandle, crossing the Apalachicola River between the towns of Blountstown and Bristol. It is also the boundary between the Eastern and Central time zones.
The older bridge in the foreground is the original crossing, carrying two lanes (one each way) of FL 20, and was built in 1938. I drove over this bridge quite a few times in the late 1970's commuting between home and college.
The newer bridge was built in 1998, parallel to the older bridge. I believe it was at this time that it was named "Trammell". The newer bridge carries two lanes eastward, the older bridge was restriped for one lane westward. Presumably it was considered too narrow by modern standards for two lanes. I haven't been there since before the new bridge was built.

^Yes, you are correct! I must have missed the previous entry back in November, but I figured this wouldn't be too hard regardless.
The new bridge has an observatory that looked like it was worth a stop. Unfortunately we crossed early in the morning and it wasn't open. But if I ever get back to that part of Maine, I'd certainly plan a stop there.

(1) The Bourne Bridge's approaches on either side of the arch are, to my eye, noticeably longer than the Sagamore's. (2) Similarly, those big concrete monoliths (for lack of a better term) that you can see on both bridges are noticeably further away from the arch on the Bourne Bridge, especially on the Cape Cod side. (3) The terrain to either side of the Bourne Bridge looks flatter than the terrain to either side of the Sagamore. (4) Related to #3, there is a path or service road or similar that runs up the hill near the Sagamore Bridge that doesn't have an equivalent at the Bourne.

Interesting. I didn't pick up on #2 before. That's probably the most noticeable one at a quick glance, but all four things are definitely noticeable.
(And yet, I'm still not sure if I'd be able to tell them apart a month from now. It kind of reminds me of doing flashcards at school or trying to tell twins apart: even if you know what the differences are, you still need a trick to remember which clue goes to which! :D)

That’s the one. Supposedly the county was going to rebuild it, buuut… didn’t quite happen. At this point, I don’t know if they could even reuse the stuff that is there. The cables are showing signs of deterioration, the tie in points where the cable attached to the wood look like they were destroyed by heat, and the anchor bolts look… bad. Honestly, I would be surprised if it could still hold the deck up.

You're correct. That view of the bridge is familiar enough that I figured people would recognize it even if they hadn't been to Vancouver. I first saw that view in The Canadian Book of the Road in the early 1980s and it was instantly familiar when I finally got there in person. I think my mom still has my father's copy of that book, but it's extremely out-of-date by now in terms of mapping, at least in the most populated areas, and I'd be reluctant to rely on a book published in the late 1970s for tourist information for rather obvious reasons! (A Google search reveals that Reader's Digest published a book with a similar name in 1993. I'm referring to the Canadian Automobile Association book with the brown cover that was published in 1979. I don't know whether the Reader's Digest book is an update to the CAA book I loved as a kid, but the way the words "Book of the Road" are designed on the cover to include map excerpts suggests it might be.)
After I took that photo, we walked from there to our hotel near BC Place (the football stadium) with a stop for lunch at the Fish House in Stanley Park (now closed, sadly). The guy at the hotel thought that was an insanely long walk, but it's only about 7 km.

The clue I was going to give was that the bridge connects two states (Virginia and Maryland) and I was not standing in either one of them when I took the picture (I was, of course, in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, when I took the photo looking east down the Potomac).

Heh, I felt like Alex Trebek or Ken Jennings when someone adds a syllable to a word or similar. There was one like that last Friday. The clue was: "A narrow mountain edge gets 'AB' at the front to become this word of literary shortening." The defending champion said, "What is an abridgement?" That was called wrong and the player in the middle said, "What is abridge?" That was correct and Jennings noted that the defending champion was incorrect because "ridgement" is not a word. (The contestant who got it right then thanked the defending champion, which I thought was maybe a bit of a snarky thing to do.)

For those unfamiliar, that bridge carries VA-76, the Powhite Parkway, over the James River in Virginia.

Glad to see this thread revived. The answer to my previous submission, which is where the thread died out, is the Harvest River Bridge on the Neponset Greenway Trail in Mattapan, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston).
As for the current picture, I feel like that's the Shelby Rhinehart Memorial Bridge, but I can't say for sure.

It is not the Mackinac Bridge. I've been over that, but if I have any pictures, they would be prints because I crossed it in August 1987 on a family vacation.

You are exactly right. I took the picture on Wednesday afternoon shortly before 6:30 PM from a southbound Acela train approaching Wilmington. I liked the picture just because it is a very different view of the bridge than most of us are used to seeing, especially those of us whose travels in the area are usually via the conventional I-95/I-295/New Jersey Turnpike combo. (I was also pleased to get a good picture out the window because inevitably trees, power poles, etc., get in the way.)
Clues I had been thinking about using, had nobody gotten it, included: "A lot of non-roadgeeks seem to think this bridge is part of a different route than it actually is" (meaning a lot of non-roadgeeks seem to think I-95 goes over the bridge and up the Turnpike) and "There are two bridges in this photo even if you can't quite see both of them."

Heh, you know, it's funny, in my prior post I said, "those of us whose travels in the area are usually via the conventional I-95/I-295/New Jersey Turnpike combo." That was true for me for most of my life, but now my travel through that area is almost exclusively via Acela. If I do drive north, I usually take other routes just in the interest of going a different way (e.g., our last drive north was in June 2019 and I took the Chesapeake Bay Bridge so as to drive the new US-301, then took I-495/I-95 to I-476 to Scranton in order to almost clinch the Northeast Extension). In spite of that, to me any view of the Delaware Memorial Bridge other than the one you see when you're driving from Virginia to New York via I-95 to I-295, or the opposite route via either the New Jersey Turnpike or I-295, still looks different to me from what I got used to seeing in all my years of travel that way in the back seat of my parents' cars when I was a kid. I recall my brother and I were riding with our father on a Boy Scout trip to Pennsylvania in the late 1980s on which we used I-95 in Wilmington and on the trip home my father commented on how weird it looked to see the Delaware Memorial Bridge from that very different angle.

This actually threw me off the DMB at first for that exact reason - you clearly took that picture at the exact right angle where the suspension towers were perfectly in line with the camera!
That was just totally dumb luck, to be honest. Shooting out the window on a moving train is always a crapshoot, and it can be even more so at times on the Acela given that top speed between New York and DC reaches 135 mph (I don't know how fast it was going when I took that picture). I was just really happy when I saw what I had lucked into with that particular picture and that's what made me want to post it here—plus I figured that very aspect might maybe make it a little bit trickier for someone to guess.

Correct! There’s a parking area right off PA 372 on the west side of the bridge for an old canal lock, and from there you can easily walk down to the riverbank and out into the riverbed (much of which is dried up due to a closed dam just upstream), and that’s where I shot that pic from.
