Not sure if this is the place for this, but I thought I would start a little game. Guess That Bridge is as simple as it sounds, Guess the bridge! Almost any bridges are allowed, but:
—No immediately recognizable bridge pics. The point of this game is to have to think a bit.
—No unrecognizable bridge pics. It has to have a somewhat distinct feature, so that overpass by your house probably won’t work here.
—photo editing is encouraged, but follow the rules above. If you couldn’t recognize the picture after 6 months of not seeing it, it’s probably not going to be guessed.
The bridges DO NOT need to be road bridges! Do you know a cool train bridge? Put it! Is there a bridge that carries a set of rails to roll barracks of bourbon across the road? Post it here! Someone may know it!
With the image guidelines in place, we can move onto guessing. Here are some guidelines:
—Guess the name and/or location of the bridge. Both local and formal names are accepted. Examples of guesses might be: the War Mother’s Memorial Bridge; OR the Capitol St Bridge; OR the bridge that leads to the capitol in Frankfort, KY. Just make the bridge in question obvious.
—To make a guess, quote the original post, without the picture.
—The first person who gets their guess correct (as confirmed by the poster) gets to post a new picture to guess. If they do not post a picture within 24 hours, someone else can post one.
—If no one guesses it within a week, the guessing has stalled. That’s OK, after a wile, someone can post a new picture to guess.
All that being said, please keep it on topic, good luck, and let’s begin!
First bridge to guess:

Decatur, Alabama?
No, it’s a bit north of there. Though, it is on a river named after a state, so...
Been on the BUS 72 bridge tho, so that was a nice surprise.

McKinley Bridge, Saint Louis, Missouri. Crosses the Mississippi River...?
-
McKinley Bridge, Saint Louis, Missouri. Crosses the Mississippi River...?
Close, it’s a bit to the west. It does look similar though. This bridge has 5 Pennsylvania truss spans, not just 3. If you have been on the Bourbon Trail, you will have probably seen it.

First bridge to guess:

Ohio River @ Metropolis, IL
Paducah & Illinois Railroad
My best guess is that it was taken from the parking lot at Harrah's.

Yup! You got it! Now it’s your turn to post a picture to guess at.

Wow, that street view is dead on! I rock the pic a bit higher up, but it’s still really close.

Should the correct guesser not post a picture of a new bridge, what should be the policy be on that? My suggestion: if the correct guesser does not submit a new bridge within 24 hours of confirmation of the poster, anyone may post a new one.

Sounds good, I’ll amend the rules. Hopefully it doesn’t happen often.

It has been more than 24 hours. I just drove across this bridge, and it is one of the more scary bridges I've been on.

Beaver Bridge — AR-187
Correct. That one is quite unique, in my opinion. Now, please post a new bridge.
M3100 was close in that it still crosses the White River.

Well, the only post-worthy bridge photo I have of my own would have been the same one I just guessed correctly, so... looks like I'll have to 'borrow' one from the interwebs...

It's probably not right, but is this a bull shoals lake bridge of some sort, i am getting MO ozarks vibes from it. BUt the two i know of (160 and MO76) are 10 and were 6 spans each respectively.
-
It reminds me of a bridge that used to be by I-44 south of OKC. But this one has too many spans.

Yeah i get the vibe for the ozarks region too.

US 62-US412 east of Mountain Home, AR?

Hint 2: Opened in 1956. Not in the USA.
-
Hint 3: The bridge's opening was reported in The Whitehorse Star.
-
Can't ID the road much less the bridge (haven't been that far north), but I'm guessing this is a bridge over the Yukon River and therefore is somewhere in the Yukon Territory.

Nisutlin Bay Bridge, Canada over the.. Nisutlin Bay

Nisutlin Bay Bridge, Canada over the.. Nisutlin Bay
That is correct. Also known as Teslin Bridge.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more post-worthy bridge photos with me, so I will proceed to borrow one from the internet as well.

Clue 1: An old suspension bridge, dating back to the 30s.

I figured out what bridge it is, and also where you snagged the photo from.
But, since I just went last time, I'll hold my tongue for someone else to get the answer.

Correct. It is also known as the Little Niangua Swinging Bridge.
Oh great, you can simply search by image on google :banghead: I tried to see if that would be the case before I posted the image and it didn't work, but now Google recognizes it?

When I saw this thread, my first plan was to post my picture of the Nisultin Bay Bridge. But since that's already been done, I'll post what I think will be a fairly easy one for someone to get:

I didn't use an image search, but I did find it by looking for "old suspension bridge 1930s."
I think I get to go next, so here’s an entry.

The new Frederick Douglass Bridge into DC?
Close enough. The car is on the old Douglass Bridge because the new one isn't open yet, but those arches are the new bridge, so I think either or both would have been a perfectly good answer because it shows you recognize where the picture is of. It's not really "into DC," of course, because it connects two parts of DC separated by the Anacostia River, but again, that's picking nits because you knew which bridge it is.
I thought that one might have taken a little longer. Oh well!

I didn't recognize it offhand, but it was not too hard to find. :)
It was smart on your part to pick a bridge that no one could find through Street View, because the most recent Street View still has the old bridge before construction started. Unfortunately for your chances of stumping us, though, a picture of the new bridge came right up in the sidebar, at which point I put 2 and 2 together.
I've got one to post in a few minutes... stay tuned.

Taken by me, this month (July 2020). With that said, I'll let my post below serve as a clue. Hopefully it's not too easy.
I guess I've been to seven states this year, counting my own.
Went to NJ in January, and all of the other five were this month: PA, DE, MD, VA, and MN.

Sorry about that - you'd think that after all these years playing photo games on this forum that I'd know to read the rules more carefully before making my first post to one.

Huh. You must have better luck than me, because I just tried that myself and didn't find this one.
But, yes, that is correct. A classic Mississippi river crossing complete with the barge and the sunset!

The landscape should've also been a big hint it wasn't in the Ozarks/AR/MO/whatever area, you definitely won't see boreal trees like that there

Somewhere in Cascadia. Route has a low number, halfway between two decently sized regional centers.

Somewhere in Cascadia.
I was looking around there prior to the clue, because of the mountain off to the side and the boreal forest surrounding the area. My guess is the Colwitz bridge on I-5.

Geographically you're a moderate distance away. It's also on a surface road.

Can you answer a yes/no question? If so, I'd like to ask if this bridge has since been reconstructed since 2017. I feel like I'm close to the answer.

index hasn’t been online since 1:00 this morning, per the profile info, and it’s none of my business why not. My thought is—MCRoads has dibs on the next photo as far as I’m concerned, so let’s give it overnight. If there’s no new entry by the time I look at the forum while eating breakfast tomorrow morning, I’ll post one of the ones I have queued up and ready to go.
-
With neither index (who could confirm 1995hoo's correct answer) nor MCRoads (the OP and previous correct guesser) having logged in recently, 1995hoo going ahead with a new photo tomorrow morning seems reasonable.
As this situation points up, it doesn't make sense to require confirmation from the person that posted the photo, since there's no commitment to be here and people come and go on their own time. Unless anyone has a better idea, my suggestion would be that from now on, anyone can verify a correct answer.

You are correct. See, I knew this one was too easy. I took that picture on July 23, 2007, from the deck of Holland America's Veendam at the start of our Baltic Sea cruise (we had just left Copenhagen and were headed to Tallinn next). Hence why I said earlier that the Street View car wouldn't be able to duplicate the photo.
I have not been over the bridge-tunnel except insofar as the ship "passed over" the tunnel portion. Didn't have much time. We flew into Copenhagen the day before the cruise began, and when we got back there at the end we flew out later the same day.

It's quite the impressive feat of engineering...I knew people in college who studied abroad in Copenhagen, and I've been wanting to find a reason to go check it out ever since.

I don't see a need to be so irate over this, not everyone constantly checks replies to their stuff. I have a life. This is a niche forum, not social media, things can wait some hours. I don't have any real reason to log on and check things multiple times a day considering the pace of things here. I second what webny is saying:

Correct!
Side note: I appreciated the effort MDOT SHA made to preserve the historic look when it received an extensive rehab in 2012. The temporary bridges used during construction were pretty impressive too.

Just so this isn’t impossible, I’ll give you a few hints:
1. If you have driven on I-85 in NC, you have probably been close to it. I myself have been on that road, but didn’t stop to see it.
2. You may have seen this bridge before, but maybe not in person. I know I have!
3. My final hint: it is notorious for being able to constantly do something, even after several modifications ...

Because I will be in an area with no service for a while, someone who hasn't already posted a bridge may now do so. I want to keep the game going..

Heh, I've driven under that bridge many times because I lived a short distance away during my three years at Duke. Passing under that bridge was the best route back to the Durham Freeway after a visit to one of the pubs in that area.

I underestimated my Verizon coverage, so here is a bridge I got a picture of recently.
EDIT: uploaded a better photo.

Bridge over the Gasconade River near Hazelgreen, Missouri?
(If I’m right, give me a few hours to post a new entry. My PC isn’t turned on and I haven’t looked to see if I have any good pictures on my iPad.)
-
Correct. This old bridge was actually supposed to be demolished a month ago. However, new public interest in saving the bridge has led to the project being put on hold. I was on my way to the St. Francois Mountain region of MO and figured I would visit it on my way there, before it was too late.
-
If someone else wants to post a picture, by all means go ahead. I don’t feel like going upstairs and turning on my PC on Saturday afternoon. I know what picture I was going to post, but it’s not on any of my mobile devices.

Is it the Brooklyn Bridge?
-
Is it the Brooklyn Bridge?
It would resemble that, but this came before that one, and is practically a bastion of western expansion.
-
Is it the Brooklyn Bridge?
Definitely not. The arches on the Brooklyn Bridge’s towers are pointed on top and there are two arches per tower.
I'm guessing it’s the Wheeling Suspension Bridge.
-
Wheeling suspension bridge?

Wheeling suspension bridge?
Yeah, that's definitely it. IMO it's one of those bridges where, if you know it, you'll know it when you see it every time. The only other thing you could really confuse it with is the Roebling Bridge in Cincinnati and even then that has big differences.

I’ll submit an entry. I took this picture in 2005.

-
John O'Connell Bridge in Sitka, AK? I think I recognize this one.
Correct! I had to look up the name of the bridge because I never knew what it was, but yes, we were in Sitka for the day in 2005 and I have several pictures of that bridge, which was obviously under construction at the time.
I thought about whether to use a more zoomed-out picture to try to make it tougher because from certain angles, the mountain in the background (not visible in the picture above, of course) might look a little like Mount Fuji to some viewers.
-
Since it’s been over 24 hours with no new entry, I’ll post one. This is way too easy, of course, and I really just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to post a great bridge picture. My aunt sent this. She lives a short distance from the bridge. This was a couple of weeks ago.

There is only a couple of cities in the US I know that have reversible roads on bridges, and one is Pittsburgh, so it wouldn’t have been hard. There is also one in Cincinnati, And a couple in DC, as one has a temporary setup for construction. And of course there is the bay bridge as well.

Correct as to both points. It's pretty distinctive regardless of the driving on the left, though. The speed limit signs would have helped clarify it's not in the USA, certainly.

Correct! In July 2007 we were headed westbound from Louisbourg to the Keltic Lodge and stopped after crossing the bridge to take pictures. I had previously been across that bridge twice in 1982, but finding those pictures (if my father had any) would be much more difficult.

I edited the photo to make the bridge more difficult to identify, and that red tower was how I gauged how much color to remove.

No, but a reasonable guess. I looked at your bridge, and it actually looks quite similar to my submission. The correct bridge is still in European Russia.

my line of reasoning for that was, "where have i seen this bridge...did i see it in air crash investigation" and then i went "oh...the water ditching"

I knew that clue would work well. Correct. It is one of the Seven Bridges of Königsberg, Prussia. Today, there are only five left.

Without doing any work to narrow down from "I'm almost sure that's a Mohawk River/NYS Barge Canal lock" I'm going with Lock 8 in Rotterdam/Glenville, thinking that might be the corner of Maalwyck Park in the background on the north side.

Based on Street View, that looks right to me.

You got it. I was trying to be tricky. Technically not a bridge. But still a bridge.

Finally I get to play one when I'm supposed to.
This is probably too easy, but I like it, so I'll use it.

Clue #1: It's in the USA, not Greece.

I had figured from contextual clues that it was probably in the US, but it's still proving harder than it should be since there's not that many divided covered bridges around.

Looks like a small town in a hilly but not mountainous area. So it could be New England, certain parts of Appalachia, or even the Driftless Area of the Midwest (though the lad who posted it is from Virginia so I doubt that).
-
I have no idea, but I was thinking the "not Greece" hint meant it's in or near a place named something like Athens or Sparta.
-
Jim is on the right track in general as to what the previous clue denoted. Obviously I don’t want to be more specific than that lest I give it away.
Clue #2: It’s not located in the same state in which the original bridge was built.

Philippi Covered Bridge. I did not find it by thinking West Virginia formerly part of VA, i was looking for other terms that could work..."side by side covered bridge" worked.

You are correct! The "Greece" reference in the prior clue was to the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC in which the members of the Second Triumvirate defeated Caesar's assassins at Philippi in Macedonia. Interestingly, there was also a Battle of Philippi in 1861 at the town where the covered bridge is located. My second clue denoted that when the original bridge was built, the town was in Virginia. ("Original bridge" denoting that it has been substantially rebuilt due to a fire.) There's a story that President Davis met Abraham Lincoln on that bridge at some point to discuss peace terms, but it's almost certainly not true.
Of course, the name of the town in West Virginia is not pronounced the same as the one in Greece—the former ends with a long "e" sound, the latter with a long "i" sound.
Had I needed to give a third clue, I was thinking about something along the lines of, "Viatologists use the wrong name for the highway system served by this bridge." A clue like, "SteveG1988 would have to use an alternate route just to the south" is a useless clue because it's hardly unusual for truck drivers to have to avoid covered bridges.
I'm genuinely surprised it took as long as it did for someone to get this one, simply because I thought that bridge is fairly well-known on the forum due to being the last covered bridge on the system of US Routes (or the "US Numbered Highway System")—which was also the gist behind the unneeded third clue, of course. I don't mean that to be poking fun of anyone for not getting it, mind you; I'm kind of glad to have posted something that proved challenging.

Heh, I was quite careful which photo I chose because there was a gas station just to the left of my vantage point when I took that photo and its sign says "Mountaineer Mart." It's partly visible in one of my photos and it would have given it away instantly! (The picture was taken on October 20, 2017, and I haven't passed that way again since then, so I don't know for certain whether that gas station is still there under the same name. Google Maps suggests it is.)

Gandy Bridge in Tampa?
Nope.
-
It is the Thomas A. Mathis bridge near seaside, NJ. After a reverse image search brought me to a photographer from seaside’s Instagram, I just needed to scroll down to find the picture.
As a side note, why is there a signal head facing the wrong way for the draw span? I can only assume that maybe it is for contraflow for hurricanes, but why would the draw span need to open in that event?

I was thinking it might've been that bridge earlier but the railings didn't match. Now that you posted this I went back on GSV to take another look. The columns under the bridge are a perfect match!

The original railings were in use until the 2010s when the entire deck was redone. Afaik only the piers and draw spamln are original now

It's been a while... any clues?
Yes. It's a bridge, and it is over a creek, and it is modern. Also, the original bridge was green.
-
Another clue, an actual clue.
The original bridge was from the 1930s. It is owned by a county. And it is on bridgehunter. This was chosen because they wanted it to be part of the historic feel of the town it is in.

I'm aware that the other one is technically the one in play, but my guess to this one is the I-5 bridge crossing the Columbia between Vancouver and Portland.

Hint for mine: It's located in my home state (not the state where I go to school, but my home state), and it's located in a town/city that, depending on how one interprets the county lines versus the town/city limits, could be considered to be straddling three counties. The city is also "Elizabeth".

Hint for mine: It's located in my home state (not the state where I go to school, but my home state), and it's located in a town/city that, depending on how one interprets the county lines versus the town/city limits, could be considered to be straddling three counties. The city is also "Elizabeth".
It’s the Queen City bridge in Manchester, NH. I wanted to see if anyone else would find it, but I guess no one did. It’s very hard, because there is no good GSV of the substructure. I literally just followed the river from Salem into NH, until I found it.
Here is a much better picture from a pedestrian overpass nearby:
Dang, you're right! I was hoping to get it and then let you go next to get back on a single track, but I guess there's no ambiguity now! :)
The clue about the three counties actually led me to Manchester, NH (knowing it was probably in MA or NH) but that wasn't one of the bridges I checked, and I'm not sure if I would have pegged it even if it was.

Yeah, I didn’t find that. Guess you need to be in a super specific spot.
Anyway, onto the next bridge!
If you guys need a better picture, let me know. I wanted to use my own picture, but I can’t find the power cord to my film scanner, so I had to take a picture with my phone, and adjust it on my computer. Oh well... :bigass:
Anyway, here you go:

Ha! Glad you think so! I just tried giving it to google to see what it did, and it gave me a suggested search of Bridge-Tunnel. It got the bridge part right at least!
-
The Queen City Bridge is correct, for mine.
To explain my hint a bit, the city limits versus the county lines in Manchester are disputed, depending on what source you use and who you talk to. However, some people consider Manchester to straddle portions of Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Merrimack counties. It's one of the only places that I know of where a single city rests in more than two counties.
Of course, Manchester is also known as The Queen City, hence the city being "Elizabeth".

Yes, very specific - precisely where the OP was when they took the photo, in fact! :-P

Aha! That did throw me. I knew it wasn't actually Elizabeth, NJ or something, so I basically ignored that clue, but still ended up in Manchester because of the other part.

Since it’s been about a day, I’ll give you guys a hint: It’s in KY. And if you have ever driven over a steel deck, you know why this bridge is unique to the area.

You got it! I think that that may be the most musical bridge I’ve been on. All the other steel deck bridges I’ve been on were on high-speed roadways, so instead of singing, the bridge just kind of farted, lol.

Here's a clue: In a land of many lakes, one of the great ones is visible from this bridge.
This was, of course, a reference to Minnesota, with one of the "great" lakes being Lake Superior, visible here (https://www.google.com/maps/@47.3373255,-91.2004619,3a,75y,124.65h,88.67t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sjQZGy_Mll0tlmjsj-KoqEw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!5m1!1e1).
The bridge in the foreground (from which I took the photo) is a State Park road that connects to the Tettegouche State Park campground - no Street View to get the exact perspective, unfortunately.
-
I don't know how I missed that bridge considering I went from Duluth northward based on that lakes hint.
Here's my entry:

[Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band - Erie Canal (Live In Dublin) on YouTube]
Yes, a reference to the Erie Canal song. I figured the whole phrase "low bridge, everybody down" would have been too easy, but it didn't matter, as it turned out.
-
You being from Rochester is why I made the connection to that song—doubt I’d have thought of it otherwise—and then I started looking at Street View images of some of the bridges.

-
Boy, that's stumping me.
Did you figure out where Google thinks it is, at least?
I'm considering some options for additional clues, but would first like to know how helpful the first one was. (My guess: not very)
-
Here's another clue: This bridge crosses a river with a name due opposite of its location relative to mine.
And another anecdotal clue: It is visible from Street View. When I first verified this, the image(s) I found showed the sign with the bridge name visible in plain sight. I got really nervous that I had done the same thing, and quickly rushed back here to double-check - only to realize, of course, that I had enough sense to post a picture of the opposite opening. Whew!

That's the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge over the Niagara River Gorge between NY and Ontario. The overhead lighting threw me off. Is that common for a railroad bridge? I do suppose it makes more sense for a border crossing.

Likely because of the border crossing. The fact that it's NEXUS only means it's by far the least-used of the Niagara crossings, but it's still plenty busy - and had been getting progressively busier every summer until COVID hit.

Also, since I guessed two, I'm going to post two (of the same bridge) once the other one is confirmed.

The Ponakin Road Bridge is correct.
The rare truss configuration is the Post truss, patented by Simon S. Post, and therefore shares its name with but is completely unrelated to Post Cereals.
The bridge is one of only 3 Post truss bridges remaining, two of which are in Massachusetts (the other is the Atherton Bridge a short distance to the south).

Alright, here's one of my all-time favorites. I couldn't pick between summer and winter, so why not both?
Should be an easy one, so I won't give any clues.

Correct! Here's the page in my Alaska 2001 trip report that includes the photo: https://www.teresco.org/pics/alaska-20010606-30/23-bridge.html
As I was preparing to post this, while making sure I had the right name, I came across this article:

Doesn't it look like the photo on that page, which is supposedly from 2017 and "COURTESY OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION" is actually my photo from 2001?

Yeah, it does - and the Wikipedia page about the bridge has a very similar photo as well. I suspect the view must be from this pull-off (https://www.google.com/maps/@59.5879882,-135.1896485,3a,37.5y,230.49h,87.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sP7RBnKcF7fqNqmNwd6FTJg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!5m1!1e1)? (Street View isn't very clear, but you can sort of see it if you zoom in.)
-
Obviously, Jim's trip report is where I had seen the picture. Very striking how the "DOT" photo somehow happens to include exactly the same vehicle.

Huh, hadn't noticed that detail. The DOT probably obtained it from his site.

Before we go on any further, I believe ozarkman417's bridge is still in play, and not roadman65's.
According to the OP, the bridge in play remains so until guessed, and then the correct guesser has the privilege of submitting the new bridge. (With appropriate expiration times of course)
-
Or in this case, it had been nearly a week, so maybe ozarkman417 could provide us with another clue?
I've been trying to find his, and once I do, I can cede the rights to post the next photo to DeaconG (once his guess is confirmed correct, as I believe it is).

Since nobody else seems interested: The Caplinger Mills Bridge connecting two pieces of East 676th Road in Cedar County, Missouri.
-
Bingo. Being in the middle of nowhere, I was expecting less people to be here, but it seems to be that the area is a popular fishing spot. Getting there was a bit of a hassle, because the route there involved going through nearby Humansville, and all the roads going in to town were blocked because the town was rigged to explode. Unsafe amounts of gasoline leaked in to the city's sewer system but has since been resolved.
-
This one is surely way too easy, but at the moment it’s one of the better ones I have. I took this on September 6, 2003.

That's the original Keokuk-Hamilton Bridge over the Mississippi River. If I recall correctly, that bridge was originally a double-decker road/rail bridge with a toll highway, similar to the still-operating Fort Madison Bridge. Not sure if the railroad portion still exists, but I know that the highway deck was removed when the new girder bridge was built to bypass it, but one of the approaches was reused as an overlook.

Damn... so basically if someone were to just throw a lit cigarette into a drain then.... BOOM??!!!??!!
Highly unlikely. Cigarettes only get hot enough to ignite gasoline when they're being smoked. The entire trip from the person's mouth through the air and down the drain, it would be cooling off precipitously.
I worked with a guy who said that, during his time in the army in Iraq, he and his fellow soldiers would occasionally flick lit cigarettes into buckets of gasoline to put them out.
Remember, kids: Just because something happens in the movies, that doesn't mean it happens in real life.

-
The Massachusetts town line sign on the bridge that's visible but not readable in the picture put me right into Massachusetts, but I didn't have much to go on to narrow it further..
-
At any rate, we should still wait till |BridgesToIdealism| confirms before |1995hoo| makes a play.
-
1995hoo got it. As noted in the picture of the plaque, the bridge is officially the Korean and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge, but still commonly known as the Lagoon Pond Bridge, which was the name of the original bridge at this location. This is one of only three actively operating single-leaf bascule highway bridges that I know of (the others being the Neil R. Underwood/Hampton Harbor Bridge and some bridge in northeastern Michigan that I don't know the name of).
For the record, I intentionally distorted the photo to blur the name on the Town Line sign - it's clearly visible in the original photo. Since I know that MA has distinctive signs like that, this was one of those where a hint was contained within the picture itself.
-
I’ll upload a picture tomorrow. Thanks for confirming. The town line sign is the main thing that helped me get it because I recognized the style as being from Massachusetts.
-

That distinctive pier that stands out from all the others (plus the abutment stubs underneath it) always make that bridge instantly recognizable for me.

I don’t know the formal name for this bridge, but I am going to guess that it is the Stillwater Crossing in MN/WI.
-
^ That is correct! It actually doesn't have a "formal" name other than St. Croix Crossing, which doubled as the name of the project when it was built about a decade ago. It replaces the historic Stillwater lift bridge 2 miles north, which is now a bike/pedestrian-only crossing.

If my previous guess is correct, I'm happy to go with this as the next bridge to guess... However, does this bridge even have a name? It looks like a very tall but otherwise random overpass. Note the rule below:
—No unrecognizable bridge pics. It has to have a somewhat distinct feature, so that overpass by your house probably won’t work here.

That isn't a bad way of doing it, but you could have made a reference to Thomas Midgley Junior and his inventions of Ethyl lead for gasoline and R-12 Freon.

Yep, You got it! Although I remember it called the High Bridge, as the glass city skyway was still relatively new (5-6 years old in 2012-2013). I think before that, it was the last high deck bridge until the lake.

I recall the bridge seeming like it was in relatively decrepit shape even in 1981. My brother, who generally doesn't pay attention to things like roads and bridges (and who was six years old that summer), still remembers what he calls the "Green Bridge in Maine" that seemed like it was going to collapse into the river. That 1981 trip was the only time I've ever been that way—when we passed through Bar Harbor the next summer to get the ferry to Nova Scotia, we went around via Bangor instead. In 1981 we were headed to East Sullivan to visit family friends.

The Trammell bridge over the Apalachicola River, by chance?
-
The Trammell bridge over the Apalachicola River, by chance?
jlam, You are correct!
For those who don't know of this bridge, it is part of FL 20 in the Florida panhandle, crossing the Apalachicola River between the towns of Blountstown and Bristol. It is also the boundary between the Eastern and Central time zones.
The older bridge in the foreground is the original crossing, carrying two lanes (one each way) of FL 20, and was built in 1938. I drove over this bridge quite a few times in the late 1970's commuting between home and college.
The newer bridge was built in 1998, parallel to the older bridge. I believe it was at this time that it was named "Trammell". The newer bridge carries two lanes eastward, the older bridge was restriped for one lane westward. Presumably it was considered too narrow by modern standards for two lanes. I haven't been there since before the new bridge was built.

^Yes, you are correct! I must have missed the previous entry back in November, but I figured this wouldn't be too hard regardless.
The new bridge has an observatory that looked like it was worth a stop. Unfortunately we crossed early in the morning and it wasn't open. But if I ever get back to that part of Maine, I'd certainly plan a stop there.

Sure. I'll give you two Street View links. The first is the Bourne Bridge; the second is the Sagamore Bridge. (1) The Bourne Bridge's approaches on either side of the arch are, to my eye, noticeably longer than the Sagamore's. (2) Similarly, those big concrete monoliths (for lack of a better term) that you can see on both bridges are noticeably further away from the arch on the Bourne Bridge, especially on the Cape Cod side. (3) The terrain to either side of the Bourne Bridge looks flatter than the terrain to either side of the Sagamore. (4) Related to #3, there is a path or service road or similar that runs up the hill near the Sagamore Bridge that doesn't have an equivalent at the Bourne.

That’s the one. Supposedly the county was going to rebuild it, buuut… didn’t quite happen. At this point, I don’t know if they could even reuse the stuff that is there. Yeah. I was thinking to myself, "why would I guess twice in a row just to not post the image, twice in a row?" That's why I didn't answer. Otherwise I would've :)
-
You're correct. That view of the bridge is familiar enough that I figured people would recognize it even if they hadn't been to Vancouver. I first saw that view in The Canadian Book of the Road in the early 1980s and it was instantly familiar when I finally got there in person. I think my mom still has my father's copy of that book, but it's extremely out-of-date by now in terms of mapping, at least in the most populated areas, and I'd be reluctant to rely on a book published in the late 1970s for tourist information for rather obvious reasons! (A Google search reveals that Reader's Digest published a book with a similar name in 1993. I'm referring to the Canadian Automobile Association book with the brown cover that was published in 1979. I don't know whether the Reader's Digest book is an update to the CAA book I loved as a kid, but the way the words "Book of the Road" are designed on the cover to include map excerpts suggests it might be.)
After I took that photo, we walked from there to our hotel near BC Place (the football stadium) with a stop for lunch at the Fish House in Stanley Park (now closed, sadly). The guy at the hotel thought that was an insanely long walk, but it's only about 7 km.
webny99 gets to post the next photo should he wish to do so.

How about the US 340 bridge over the Shenandoah?
-
I'm very familiar with this bridge but I'm gonna sit this one out.
-
Regarding the two most recent guesses, it is not in the Ohio River Valley and it does not span the Shenandoah River, although jlam is on the right track.
The hint I would give would make it too obvious in view of the preceding sentence, so I'll wait a while before I give that hint.
-
US-340 over the Potomac?
-
US-340 over the Potomac?
Yes, you are correct. jlam was so close and I don't doubt he might have been thinking of the correct bridge, but because the confluence of the Shenandoah and the Potomac is right there, essentially directly in front of where I was standing when I took the photo, and because US-340 crosses the Shenandoah on a different bridge nearby (to the right of and behind the camera angle), I felt I couldn't validly say "close enough."
The clue I was going to give was that the bridge connects two states (Virginia and Maryland) and I was not standing in either one of them when I took the picture (I was, of course, in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, when I took the photo looking east down the Potomac).

The Potomac and Susquehanna (and of course Shenandoah) do look remarkably similar to one another.

Heh, I felt like Alex Trebek or Ken Jennings when someone adds a syllable to a word or similar. There was one like that last Friday. The clue was: "A narrow mountain edge gets 'AB' at the front to become this word of literary shortening." The defending champion said, "What is an abridgement?" That was called wrong and the player in the middle said, "What is abridge?" That was correct and Jennings noted that the defending champion was incorrect because "ridgement" is not a word. (The contestant who got it right then thanked the defending champion, which I thought was maybe a bit of a snarky thing to do.)

Hint #2: The picture was taken looking through the window on a moving train (hence that red label in the bottom right corner and the slight reflection elsewhere).

You are correct. I took the picture looking through the window on the southbound Auto Train.
For those unfamiliar, that bridge carries VA-76, the Powhite Parkway, over the James River in Virginia.

You are exactly right. I took the picture on Wednesday afternoon shortly before 6:30 PM from a southbound Acela train approaching Wilmington. I liked the picture just because it is a very different view of the bridge than most of us are used to seeing, especially those of us whose travels in the area are usually via the conventional I-95/I-295/New Jersey Turnpike combo. (I was also pleased to get a good picture out the window because inevitably trees, power poles, etc., get in the way.)
Clues I had been thinking about using, had nobody gotten it, included: "A lot of non-roadgeeks seem to think this bridge is part of a different route than it actually is" (meaning a lot of non-roadgeeks seem to think I-95 goes over the bridge and up the Turnpike) and "There are two bridges in this photo even if you can't quite see both of them."
-

I agree that this a better view of the DMB than elsewhere - I tend to drive I-495 more often than I-295/NJTP whenever heading up that direction, and it's always a nice view when heading south (especially at night, when the streetlights all the way across the DMB are lit up). The view from I-495 south at the top of the Christina River Bridge is a nice one, too. Heh, you know, it's funny, in my prior post I said, "those of us whose travels in the area are usually via the conventional I-95/I-295/New Jersey Turnpike combo." That was true for me for most of my life, but now my travel through that area is almost exclusively via Acela. If I do drive north, I usually take other routes just in the interest of going a different way (e.g., our last drive north was in June 2019 and I took the Chesapeake Bay Bridge so as to drive the new US-301, then took I-495/I-95 to I-476 to Scranton in order to almost clinch the Northeast Extension). In spite of that, to me any view of the Delaware Memorial Bridge other than the one you see when you're driving from Virginia to New York via I-95 to I-295, or the opposite route via either the New Jersey Turnpike or I-295, still looks different to me from what I got used to seeing in all my years of travel that way in the back seat of my parents' cars when I was a kid. I recall my brother and I were riding with our father on a Boy Scout trip to Pennsylvania in the late 1980s on which we used I-95 in Wilmington and on the trip home my father commented on how weird it looked to see the Delaware Memorial Bridge from that very different angle.
"There are two bridges in this photo even if you can't quite see both of them."
This actually threw me off the DMB at first for that exact reason - you clearly took that picture at the exact right angle where the suspension towers were perfectly in line with the camera!
That was just totally dumb luck, to be honest. Shooting out the window on a moving train is always a crapshoot, and it can be even more so at times on the Acela given that top speed between New York and DC reaches 135 mph (I don't know how fast it was going when I took that picture). I was just really happy when I saw what I had lucked into with that particular picture and that's what made me want to post it here—plus I figured that very aspect might maybe make it a little bit trickier for someone to guess.

I think the last one was the Ramsey Harbor Bridge on the Isle of Man.
Yep that was it lol

As for the current bridge, is it US 522 over the Potomac?

It is not US 522 nor the Potomac…but the route in question also ends in 2, and the river in question also drains to the Chesapeake Bay.

This looks like the Norman Wood Bridge, where PA 372 crosses the Susquehanna River.

Correct! There’s a parking area right off PA 372 on the west side of the bridge for an old canal lock, and from there you can easily walk down to the riverbank and out into the riverbed (much of which is dried up due to a closed dam just upstream), and that’s where I shot that pic from.

Here is my entry to guess. It’s a GSV image where I have blotted out a few parts that would make it too easy.

One week later, No guesses??? How about I give a clue:
You may find yourself breaking into song while crossing this bridge.

Does it happen to take you home?

Three weeks, no guesses??? This thread is too fun to let die. Another clue:
This bridge is the first suspension bridge built in its state (1947) and is the only one to carry highway traffic.

Searched up "bridges built in 1947", this was quite surprisingly the first result, guess you spilled too much :D. This would be the Hal W. Adams bridge, carrying Florida State Highway 51 over the Suwannee River.

Sapphuby, you are correct! Your turn to post a bridge picture for us to guess!
I may have given away too much, but nobody had hazarded a guess in about a month.
Here is the GSV of the bridge, but without the blots. You can see why I blotted those parts out. https://goo.gl/maps/wWJmMDaLQvtUA2gx6 (https://goo.gl/maps/wWJmMDaLQvtUA2gx6)

Florida has a suspension bridge???

Not motivated right about now, so I give the post to someone else who wants to do it.

Alright, I've got one somewhat close to me:

No guesses? Here's a hint: this bridge is not in use for vehicle traffic as of now, but it is still standing currently.
