Joder NE (Spanish for "f*ck")

I'm not entirely sure this one actually exists. It could easily be a USGS employee from decades ago having fun.

It's real, but just barely.

Quote from: Our Heritage Guest Ranch – History
A depot, section house and water tank were built on the new railroad about a mile north of [the] Rosenbergs, and a store and residence followed to make the Adelia village. It was about midway between Crawford and Ardmore. The town was named for the experience the Rosenburg brothers had with the Native Americans in 1874. Adelia is roughly translated to "brotherhood."  ... About 1907, the railroad moved the depot and section house about 3 miles farther north, and other buildings were moved or torn down. This area was on a higher grade, helping the trains to move after stopping to fill with water and coal. The water tank and switch were then called Joder Siding and it became a train-loading place for livestock.

Looks like the disused siding is still visible here.  And I think this is a picture of the siding from 2010.

On US-81 in Nebraska:  [McCoolsville] https://i.imgur.com/4K4bVmu.png

I had a bunch of cousins that lived in Coolville, Ohio.  Some folks still think that Coolsville of Scooby Doo fame was named after this town.  Always thought it was "cool" that my aunt and uncle had kids that ranged from twins that were a year younger than my mom to a daughter who was just a few days older than I am.  (Ruht roy!)

...but do you know where Scooby Doo's name came from? It's something you'd never think of.  :bigass:

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Kalamazoo. A friend didn't believe it was a real place...and when I was there a few years ago, I bought and sent her this post card:

Along those lines, a lot of people don't realize this is a real place.  And I think it has a cool name.

Yeah, except that I wouldn't have expected 150 fifteen-year-olds to be an accurate representation of the geographical knowledge of all Britain.  Still, though, the point remains.

From the Who's On First department:

"I'm going to central Massachusetts."
"Where?"
"Ware."
"Yes, I'm asking you where."
"Ware is the name of the town, near the Quabbin Reservoir."
"The town name should be there as soon as you enter it."
"I'll send you a photo, and you'll understand."

(There's also one in the UK.)

I have been and it's a rather unremarkable town. Except for the name of course.

Now for place names I actually find cool:
Baraboo, WI
Nafarroa, the Basque name of Navarre, Spain. I personally prefer it over the Spanish name Navarra.
Lol, a hamlet in Department no. 24 (Dordogne), New Aquitaine, France. Yes, it's real!

My wife thought it was "Lollipop Kids"  here entire life until I pointed out what the lyrics really were.  Conversely I always wondered what lollipops had to do with facilitating commerce in Munchkin Land.

There was a movie theory that I came up with high school that was Oompha Loompas were the same as the Lurkers from the Phantasm movies.  More so the theory was that the Tall Man was also Charlie years after he had been driven mad by his chocolate empire at the Wonka Factory.

People believe a lot of weird things about The Wizard of Oz still I suppose.  Despite being debunked by HD quality video almost everyone I know still thinks there is a hanging Munchkin.

Recently I was shocked to find a town in Northeastern France named Rombas. To me it sounds like robotic vaccuum cleaners :sombrero:.
