Clearview vs. British road sign font - how are they similar and different?

I was just thinking about how one of the most noticeable features of the Clearview font - namely, the "tails" at the bottom of the lowercase L's - are also a characteristic of the font used on British road signs, which I believe is called Transport. That makes me wonder - what other features might the fonts share with one another, and how do they differ?

Perhaps someone on here who's visited the UK might be able to offer some insight. (I myself have not been there, but I do know what their road signs look like, thanks to having seen them on Street View, as well as in various photos.)
