Pretty straightforward question with one caveat:  Even though a US Highway or Interstate may cross over the same signed route dozens of times (US-1 & I-95 for example), it only counts as one!

Challenge Issued...Go!

My first thought was US 62, which crosses 28 Interstates:

190 290 90 86 79 80 680 76 77 270 670 71 70 75 64 65 69 24 57 49 35 40 235 240 44 27 10 110

EDIT: US 52 crosses 29 Interstates if both I-74s are counted separately:

94 29 694 35W 35E 494 90 88 39 55 80 57 65 865 465 74 70 275 75 71 471 64 77 81 74 80 85 95 526

Even counting all crossings of US 1 as one, I-95 intersects many US routes: 1, 2 (Eastern), 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 (does 9W count?), 13, 15, 17, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 40, 41, 44, 46, 50, 52, 60, 64, 70, 74, 76, 78, 80, 82, 84, 90, 92, 98, 130, 158, 176, 178, 192, 201, 202, 206, 250, 264, 278, 301, 321, 322, 341, 360, 378, 421, 441, 460, 501, 521 and 701. A grand total of 57 routes (without counting the US 9 split), with three near misses (5, 22, 33).

I-90 crosses 56 US Highways:

I think you missed I 394 in downtown Minneapolis and I 69, which currently ends at I 465 ( US 52 ).  The second 80 in your list should be 40.

US 22 does not cross I-95.  It comes close to it though and even though its signed at Exit 14 in Newark, the actual Cincinnati, OH to Newark, NJ route ends about a mile away from I-95 at US 1 & 9.

US-40 is tricky as you will see...It's about 38 give or take (using a crappy Champion US Road Atlas) :  I-80, I-70, I-25, I-225, I-135, I-35, I-470 (Topeka), I-435, I-635, I-35, I-670, I-29(?), I-470 (Kansas City, MO), I-64, I-270 (St. Louis), I-170, I-44, I-55, I-255, I-57, I-465, (Future I-69), I-65, I-74, I-75, I-270 (Columbus), I-71, I-77, I-79, I-68, I-81, I-270 (?Frederick, MD?), I-695, I-83, Former I-170, I-895, I-95, I-295.

Missing by just a few miles: I-29 (?), I-49 (for now), I-335 (?), I-675, I-670 (Columbus), I-470 (Wheeling), I-395, I-195, I-795, I-495 (Wilmington).

US-41 (damn, this is getting addicting) --  27 Interstates:  I-43, I-41, I-94, I-794, I-894, I-55, I-90, I-80, i-74, i-70, I-64, I-164, I-69, I-66, I-24, I-65, I-40, I-440, I-840, I-75, I-285, I-85, I-20, I-475, I-10, I-275, I-95

Now the inverse question is what mainline Interstate crosses the LEAST number of US Routes?  I'm thinking it might be I-17 and I-8 with only 1 in US 60 and US 95 respectively.

And none of the Interstates in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico even touch U.S. routes, since there are no U.S. routes in those jurisdictions.

I think I-86 in Idaho crosses only US 91, but most of it is concurrent with US 30.
