51 degrees, cloudy and windy. Currently waiting for rain. I'm not sure when winter will come. Only one storm here, so far. :colorful:
Around 50 and rain. Quite odd for Albany.

I thought it actually got warmer right around sunset to boot.

Yep. -10 here, too. 17 mph wind. Unlike cl94, I ventured out. :D
Going to be 53°F today and rainy (see posts above :D).
The Boston area saw ice over 1/2 to 2 inches of snow overnight, now 45 degrees out and melting. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gale force winds forecast for late afternoon and evening.
Proving the old addage "If you don't like the weather in New England, just wait a minute."
It's nuts here. It's a full 60 degrees warmer than it was less than 3 days ago. Pouring rain.

27 now, on the way to 60 degrees tomorrow amid 40-55 mph winds between now and tomorrow evening
This month (Feb 2016) was too warm for about 2 weeks in the western US, in fact the high in Palm Desert was 94 two days ago....and the meteorologists predicted this is the peak of a cool, rainy El Nino winter. :-/ What happened?
46°F right now, spotty rain.
High of 28°F for tomorrow.
High of 58°F on Sunday.
Winter is so drunk.
48 & froggy after a severe thunderstorm earlier this evening. Damn thing sat right over us for 2 hrs, super loud thunder & horizontal rain. The 1st clap of thunder made the puppy shit on the rug , then it took refuge in the bathtub shaking scared of the thunder. I snuck in & turned the shower on the pup, fun knee :)!! The cat, named Mr Cool just laid on the couch & yawned .Haha that's funny. I watched that storm on the radar before going to bed last night. That was pretty fierce line of storms across the panhandle of FL!
Lost power for 3 hrs so we went to bed at 9pm & here I am wide awake at 0200. I'm thinking about going out & picking up the storm debris in the yard or going to my brothers abode & gettting something to put me back to sleep :hmmm:, I chose number B, bye yall
48 & froggy:-D
Last 3 days: Saturday snow squalls and blizzard conditions, 5 minutes later sun. Rinse and repeat.Saturday was some of the most bizarre weather I have ever seen. Towering tall clouds all around, and sunshine here and there, but then every so often, Mother Nature would take 5 minutes to just barf snow down from the heavens. It was like barfing (meteorologists might call it "downdrafts"). Mother Nature, go home, you drunk. Oh yeah- and it was 41 degrees AS the snow was falling (Aurora, IL area)
Sunday: 72 degrees
Today: 32 degrees and snow showers
It's going to hit the high 70s on Monday here in Seattle. Second time it's gone above that range in the last few weeks.
Final high temperature at Sea-Tac Airport was 89°F. A new record for April.April is really a wild card. Here in Chicagoland, we had 3 days in a row topping out in the 80s (80-83°F or 27-28°C). Also in April, we've had three separate days of measurable snowfall. All within April 1- April 18.
Eight years ago today, it was snowing in Seattle...I don't get this month. It's too strange.

34 C (95 F) today in Winnipeg. Broke a 90 year record. Haven't had rain in over two weeks now. I'm concerned about grass fires.

With that massive fire in Alberta, I don't blame you. With the rate at which it's expanding, it very well might become the largest wildfire in recorded history.
History's largest fires stem from years when they were allowed to freely burn, and scorched millions of acres.

Supposedly it's going to thunderstorm today. May even see some severe ones, and possibly, a tornado or two in the Mid-Atlantic. Well, that's what they are saying anyways, so let's see how spot-on they are with those predictions... I love me a good thunderstorm!
88 degrees F, clear and sunny. Too hot to be comfortable, especially without AC (which many residences here lack).

And we got... nothing (besides rain). Hillsborough kills most severe weather that enters it's boundaries. That squall line looked a lot more menacing before it hit us...
Of course, when they then don't arrive, I am left very disappointed.

Thunderstorms mean tornadoes and severe weather sometimes anyway. Though, I do feel the same as you. We got a short storm yesterday. Some lighting and thunder, and it quickly moved on.
Raining harder than it ought to in June.

Today in Kitchener had a high of 34 C (93 F), 38 C (100 F) with the humidex. Environment Canada issued a heat warning. It's been a pretty hot summer here, with many days in the 30's, and not much rain!

That's what I miss about living in Ontario. I love humidity and heat, so I dig that type of stuff (just not at night). I remember the humidex (humidity index for you Americans) getting to 45 (113 F) one year; we just moved in to our new house, and there wasn't AC.
Saturday I was at an outdoor Coldplay concert in downtown Chicago. You are so much like me. Thunderstorm? No problem. Lightning only a mile away from me, that's really loud? No problem! Being soaked? No problem!!!
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued, and it was justified by the ensuing heavy downpours and super gusty winds. That postponed the 7pm concert until 2 hours later. Then at 10:30, one of the worst deluges I've seen started happening. Chris Martin was like "it's raining; let me check with the officials...Okay they said to evacuate the stadium; let's play one more song!" And he didn't care and just started playing it anyways, like a champ. He was mystified by how all the Chicago people were so cheerful and responsive even though the weather was nuts. The audience was like "yeah, whatever, another severe thunderstorm" lol. Driving home soaked still sucked. The stairs down to the parking garage were a waterfall.
3-4 inches of rain fell in the near north suburbs...downtown chicago got like 1.5"
51°F, crystal clear and absolutely beautiful.

Same thing here in the PNW. You don't use umbrellas (unless you want to protect your hair).

3°F, and that's now, not in the middle of the night when it was even colder.
Here's another example of media idiocy when it comes to predicting weather. Snow is forecast for early Saturday morning in Greater Boston. So, this morning, the weatherman for the local radio station (who works for the station, and is not from AccuWeather, etc.) stated we will get 1 to 3 inches. Two minutes later, the anchor (who is presumably less expert than the weatherman) stated we will get 3 to 6 inches.

There has been a Winter Storm Warning for my area. There has been minimal but existing snow so far today. We were let out of school at 12:00 today, as a result of the weather coming in. Today the high is 37 degrees Fahrenheit, and the low is 21 degrees. Tomorrow, the high calls for 28 degrees, and the low 14 degrees. This is in Dalton, Georgia.
Crazy weather in Spain: a ton of snow in the Southeast, which has even shut down freeways. Ironically that area is the driest part of the country. At the moment isn't raining, though it had been raining from yesterday morning to half an hour now, with hail sometimes; and has been raining almost the whole week. In Wednesday it even snowed!
If you feel like you haven’t seen the sun in a very long time, you’re not wrong.
Waterloo Region saw less sunlight this January than in past years.
The average amount of sunlight in January is 86 hours, or 21 days of sunlight.
However, as of January 29th, we’ve only had 12 hours of sunlight, or four days with sun.
“The only sun I’ve seen for us was New Year’s Day, which was really nice. The 2nd, in the morning. The 6th and the 15th, which were really nice for the most part, and that’s about it,” says 570’s Weather Specialist, John Wilson.
The lack of sunshine is likely due to the mild temperatures we’ve had over the past few weeks, as cold weather is required in the winter for sunshine.
Milder weather means lower clouds and fog, which we have seen lots of this month.
Good news is, that as we head into February, some sunshine is in the forecast for our region!

That said, took them longer than usual to plow my road today, probably due to the lousy predictions.

Another storm on the way. Weather people are having a tough time telling if it will be rain or snow, or freezing rain though. Either way, it will make Monday and Tuesday messy. Warm and sunny Sunday though!
20.5" snow here. I believe baugh17 has me beat, though...
Fairly heavy rain with occasional thunder. Surprisingly we're not under any sort of watch or warning. This is what I'm talking about:
I'm under a severe thunderstorm watch. It's raining hard.Funny thing is, I'm about an hour or so away from you (north of Hagerstown, or HGR) and we got no warning at all. Love how weather works, doesn't it?
Be glad you're not in Winnipeg where we'll be getting up to 10 cm of snow tomorrow. Hopefully it will be nice by the end of the week and it will melt.

Heavy rain is expected. The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall. 40-70 mm of rain expected today through Saturday. Rain will spread into Southwestern Ontario this morning and is forecast to persist into Saturday as the weather system responsible stalls over the region. The rain is expected to taper to showers late Saturday or Saturday night. With the ground already saturated, there is the potential for local flooding. For information concerning flooding please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry District office. ### Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.cpio-tempetes-ospc-storms.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

I'm stunned that a public facility out east wouldn't have AC. My elementary school in Seattle (max summer temp usually mid 70s, and usually a dry heat), built in the 60s and hardly upgraded since, has AC. I usually take for granted public facilities having some form of AC.

Note that it's 6pm. Last year we were enjoying nice 23C/73F summer weather - which is what it will be at 11pm (with a humidity of 83%, bringing the dew point up vs now)
Seattle's climate has always reminded me of London. Anything in the 90s is unusual. Nights in the 60s and 70s feels very unusual. Record temp right around 100. Pretty much the same.London is slightly hotter than where I am (urban heat island principle, plus it's lower as I'm around 500ft which drops me a further degree, and also means that snow in winter is much more severe) - seems about right.

Apparently rain may return to the Seattle area tomorrow, for the first time in four weeks. No one's losing their minds, but I expect a slight increase in area collisions (due to oil that hasn't run off the road, so slightly slippy conditions).
I thought it was cool last Friday. Today, it's downright cold for July. 58 degrees and rain. Ludicrous Cold if you ask me.57 over here. But the showers are more on and off

Which it can be, when doing scientific work. But having zero be a temperature that almost no one ever encounters in their life doesn't prove very useful for everyday activity. Hence why I think Celsius is superior day to day (and why I think it's superior to Fahrenheit as well).

In my experience, Florida is rarely ever thundery all day. Partly cloudy in the morning and mid-day, and then a storm rips through in the late afternoon, followed by a beautiful partly-cloudy sunset.

I'm surprised more people in this area don't invest in a room-sized A/C unit. I have one just for my bedroom so that I can sleep at night. It was only $500. Every summer it's the same fucking story. Apparently, no one around here has A/C because it's never hot enough. Bullshit. It's in the 70s, 80s, and 90s everday for three months every year. It's worth the investment.

That's stunning! You'd think there was a wildfire nearby (not sure if that's a problem in the UK like it is here in the western US).There were/are wildfires in Portugal that contributed - ie about a 1000 miles away!
Is the storm dropping a bit of sand, or is it mostly staying in the air?It didn't drop it - here at least - it didn't even rain. I think the particles were very fine anyway, so it would be hard to notice anything other than a big drop.

Lowland snow for most of the Seattle metro area...except for the hole in northern Snohomish County formed by the convergence zone. So far, nothing.
High of 45

I've been led to believe that thundersnow is pretty unusual. I've never seen it before, and, judging by Jim Cantore's reaction (https://youtu.be/qJt4nV6hM1Y) to the stuff several years, it's not particularly common.

Windy. Lights have been flickering all afternoon.

And Roadgeekteen, you don't need to post anything in the range 38-51 for the next 15 days; only unusual ones should be reported.
^^ Speaking from long experience, I wouldn't put much trust or stock in temperature forecasts beyond roughly Day 5, and I wouldn't put ANY trust in past Day 9.

More than 3 days out, forecasts aren't much good. More than 5 days out and they're no better than historical climate data for that date.
Thank you very much, 7/8, for showing us some road-and-weather-related photos in this thread!
It is very good eye candy, and it is relevant to both roads and weather.
Thanks! Today's photo isn't as exciting, but here's the overcast sky over Minnesota on US 2

Record high temperatures expected tomorrow. My area of Seattle is expected to reach 66. Seattle itself should see around 60. This is due to a storm that originated southeast of Hawaii. Very warm waters. The tropical system is bringing lots of rain with it. Or should I say, did. Today sucked...just rained all day. Tomorrow should be warmer and drier. Should be a nice change.
Currently 1 C (33 F) and snowing in Ironwood, MI (on the Wisconsin border). It was overcast in the eastern U.P., raining across the middle of the U.P., then quickly turned to snow in the western U.P. Here's a photo of driving through Ontonagon County on M-28.

Sounds like beach weather. Around Chicagoland, it's supposed to be a high of 43, coming up from a low of 29 in the morning. It was only in the low 20s this morning. Friday should be a heat wave in the low 50s.

For the roadgeeky here, this is why we need No Passing Zone pennants, Do Not Pass signs, and Pass With Care signs. Striping is worthless until April.

Michigan is great at signing these, but Ontario almost never signs no passing zones. I agree that it's a great idea. Even in the summer, the pennants are nice and easy to see.

Christ, if you need the NPZ pennants to not pass in that weather, you may have other issues. :)
You haven't driven much in Da UP, have you? The roads almost never get plowed down to pavement. Yoopers pass in that weather a lot.

Not at all actually, though I have driven through Minnesota winters, which I have to imagine are similar. But in any event, that was just my (poor) attempt at a joke. :ded:

Rain in the forecast for right now, but its not raining...
?!?!
Does a temperature alone really count as "weather"? If someone asked me what the weather was outside, I wouldn't say "45", I'd say "rainy and chilly" (or whatever). If someone asked me what the temperature was, that'd be a different story.

Considering I'm a weather geek in addition to a road geek, and being a new member, this may be a daily occurrence for me to post here. Today in Sherwood: 48 and partly cloudy and some rain showers.
Please warn me if I get too technical with my posts here, especially if snow hits.

There is another member who posts in this thread almost every day, but he gives very little information; sometimes he just gives a 2-digit number referring to the temperature. Most other people only post unusual events.
Every day may be a bit too often, but going into detail is preferred, compared to giving a bare minimum.
High of 45 today and sunny. Rain coming up which really sucks. I need to walk 5 times a week for a boy scout requirement and I HATE the rain!

Yes.
I disagree. "Weather" is defined by Merriam-Webster as "the state of the atmosphere with respect to heat or cold, wetness or dryness, calm or storm, clearness or cloudiness".Does a temperature alone really count as "weather"?Yes.
Note that temperature is just one part of the system.

I was worried about that when I clipped that part of the quote, but I couldn't quite figure out how you could respond "yes" to something that wasn't a question :-D (so I just assumed you were responding to the first sentence).
That said, this is a forum. So one-word responses such as "YES" or "THIS" aren't uncommon ways to agree with someone, and I should know better.

There was only one question in that sentence. Responding "yes" is assumed to be an answer to that question.
Rainy, miserable day.
Rainy, miserable day.
Sounds like a typical Pacific Northwest winter day. Although not today! Not a cloud in the sky here. Forecast for the next few days suggests sun but cold temps. Sun+warmth is not a thing in the winter here.

Agreed although where I live, I have a wind and air stagnation advisory in affect. I live right on the border of the two so I'm affected by both.
I think Portland and Boston made a deal to swap weather patterns for a week.
Perfectly clear, cloudless, clear air. Cold at night, frost on the ground where it's open to the sky and lots on bridges. Comfy in the sun at midday.

To be honest, if it was very detailed weather data every time, then that would be mighty fine - but the problem arises when this thread gets clouded with posts that only contain things such as "41," "52," "45," "colder," "warmer," all within one day of eachother.
:hmmm:
No offense, RGT, but I would highly recommend toning it down just a little bit in this thread. :D

In my neck of the woods, we had the first arctic taste the last couple of mornings in Chicago, 17 at daybreak today. Our first decent sticking snow comes in tonight with a couple inches possible, nothing too crazy.

As perverse as it sounds, I wish something that interesting would happen here. It's just been cold. Maybe a little windy at times, but that's it.
It's snowing in Atlanta today! Like, actually in Atlanta itself, not just the far northern suburbs like usual. Snow happens in town here maybe once a year if we're lucky. Snow this early in the season is even rarer; this is either the second or third time I've seen it happen here in December in my memory.

We ended up with about 1.5 inches here, per my measurement this morning. Some of the western and northern suburbs saw enormous totals in the 6-10 inch range. General consensus is that it's the most snow we've seen here since 1993.
It snowed a little bit here yesterday. I actually got out of school at around 11:00 A.M., as a result. It was definitely a pleasant surprise for all of us students. It's snowing in Atlanta today! Dang. I remember when the snow disaster of Winter 2014 happened in Atlanta (and there was some here in Dalton, too, and my mother's car was having trouble driving on the road back home after picking me and my brother up from school, and other cars near us had the same problem), when so many vehicles were trapped on the roads, some students had to spend the night in schools, and there was even a baby born on Interstate 285. That was definitely a pretty crazy situation.
Does any other city hope for snow as much as the Portland area?

I remember watching that on TV. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Wasn't the city "shut down" for a few days due to how crippled it became due to this storm?
Inversion layer expected to continue for the next week. More clear nights, frosty mornings, sunny days. Gradually worsening air quality. Air temperatures at several thousand feet elevation are much higher than at sea level: Paradise, at 5000 feet, was reported at 65 today while us in the lowlands didn't even break 50.

Today's fog kept me from landing on-time. We circled around SeaTac four times before diverting to PDX due to low fuel. So annoying when all you can see is blue sky, and this tiny patch of fog sitting over the airport. Our sunny days can be so bittersweet.

Sorry to hear that! SeaTac is relatively high up too. How do they get you from Portland to Seattle?
It's currently -9 C (16 F) and lightly snowing. It's nice to see snow on the ground in December. Let's hope for a good ski season this winter
If you'd like, you can have some of the foot of snow piled all over my yard...

Those chances appear to have dwindled. I was also seeing a chance of ice for Christmas up here, but it looks like it will be raining both here and down in Portland as well.

I'm guessing you're not in suburban DC.
-14°C (7°F) and sunny, feels like -25°C (-13°F). It looks like it'll be a cold week, but I'm happy we had a white Christmas here in Kitchener. My younger brother is now back in Winnipeg, where it's -27°C (-17°F) and feels like -38°C (-36°F); that's really cold!

I can't even fathom most of those numbers. 7°F is the absolute lowest I've ever seen in person.
Freezing rain is falling on the ground again...
I ASKED FOR SNOW, NOT FREEZING RAIN MOTHER NATURE.
All ice is melted, back to 50 and raining.
First snow last night dumped about an inch, second round is on the way today with another 2-4 inches. Then back into the deep freeze for New Years. There's hints of a possible blockage in the upper air pattern on long range forecasts that could prevent the arctic air from retreating much, hopefully that does not come true. Chiberia lives!

Just looked at the forecast for Chicago. Does it normally get below freezing for 2+ weeks during the winter? I understand that Chicago is prone to well-below-freezing temperatures, but for that long seems unusual.
FWIW, I'd take that over 40 and rain, which is what I'm getting plenty of in Seattle.

On a related note, the thermometer stuck to my window says it's currently 0°F. No idea if that's accurate or not.
That reminds me of a joke, I think by Ron White (a Texan). He was on the road somewhere cold. The thermometer said zero on a really cold day when his wife asked him what the temperature was. He told her "there isn't one."

W'ere running about 15-20 degrees below normal. We normally see about one of these outbreaks per year, but to have two back to back arctic punches is unusual. Plus this new wave is under an abnormally strong high pressure (1052 mb forecasted!). Jan and Feb are our coldest months, so to have this in December is a bit extreme.

I wondered about that. Not sure the ice would be thick enough yet, but then again I don't live in MN anymore so I don't exactly follow the ice forecasts (yes, those are a thing.) :)
A bit warmer.
Yes, it is Monday.A bit warmer.
Is it also a bit duller?
Kind of weird to see the birds walking around on a frozen lake when it’s 58° outside (it’s now 61° an hour later).

How much ice is there?
Threatening a record high of 61 degrees before a cold front sends a flash freeze and our temps crashing 30 degrees in a couple hours time. Rain to freezing rain to sleet to snow with 30-40 mph winds. Yay Chicago weather
Ours is been cold compared to other winters. We had a week full of high temps in the 50's, and only the last few days we are back in the 70's.
So instead of getting part of that global warming, we have gotten some cooling instead.
Heh. Maybe an inch if snow in eastern NY. That lake effect nonsense is for western NY.Threatening a record high of 61 degrees before a cold front sends a flash freeze and our temps crashing 30 degrees in a couple hours time. Rain to freezing rain to sleet to snow with 30-40 mph winds. Yay Chicago weather
Yay for upstate NY weather, and yay for lake effect snow, too. Temps are in the 50's now, but 10-18 inches of snow forecasted for tonight into tomorrow.
Upper 50s here in Atlanta, but mid-30s in Chattanooga right now. That, of course, is because there's a cold front on its way, apparently roughly along the US 411 corridor at the moment. After our midnight high of 61 this morning, we'll be in the mid-20s by sunrise tomorrow with maybe some isolated flurries. Another cold weekend and cold week ahead, possibly failing to get above freezing by Wednesday.
Yesterday Dulles Airport hit a high of 70°, tying a record for that date (set last year). Five days earlier, Dulles Airport hit a low of –1°. What a weird week. I was off work yesterday and I was wearing shorts and a short-sleeved shirt around the house. As I type this, it's 34° outside (don't know what the wind chill is, but I was moving heavy stuff around so I didn't want a warm coat and I wore a fleece vest instead).
Mid-40s now, but soon to be falling fast. Another front rolling through, expected to bring a small amount of snow tonight (probably around an inch), but whatever does fall will probably stick around tomorrow with a "high" temperature in the upper 20s. Wind Chill Advisory to take effect at 9pm tonight for expected wind chills near zero.
Enjoyed a day off from school and took a walk in the snowy weather, which was nice. I took a few photos. The roads are supposed to freeze and stay frozen tonight and in the morning and it won't go above freezing till noon, so it's likely I won't have school tomorrow as well.
Honestly, I know you guys are in the south, but I cannot believe all the school cancellations. We've had a foot in a single night before and still had school the next day. In fact, I don't ever remember closing* for less than a foot (unless temps fall below -25 with wind chill, which is an insta-cancel).

Y'all have plows. We don't, for the most part.

The core of cold air aloft associated with this system will move
onshore this afternoon and evening. The 00z/06z GFS convective
indices and NAM Bufr soundings show marginal instability moving
inland as 500 mb temps fall to -32 to -34 deg C. Past experience
suggests this may be a bit overdone, but even -30 to -32 deg C would
be enough to produce some weak instability with surface temperatures
in the upper 40s. Decided to add the mention of thunder inland this
afternoon and evening as a result. With freezing levels lowering, any
heavy showers or thunderstorms have the potential to produce small
hail; we have already had spotter reports of BB to pea sized hail
from the thunderstorms along the coast early this morning. If enough
sunbreaks occur to trigger strong updrafts at the surface, the
low-level shear profile appears favorable for some longevity to any
cells that develop, and a couple stronger cells with slightly larger
hail, gusty winds, and perhaps even a funnel cloud cannot be ruled
out today. Convective allowing guidance seems to suggest at least
isolated convection is likely this afternoon in the Willamette
Valley.

Raining in the middle of January, god knows why.
moist
plz don't use that word.
Are you in an area where it usually snows in January? All it does is rain in January where I am :-D

Going to guess he's somewhere near me (in which case, the answer to your question is yes). Here in the snow belt, it's 50 degrees and raining :pan:
Another record high: 64
Funny how things work because my thermometer today went the opposite of what you had (45 until 3pm when the rain moved in, then raised to 52 in an hour).Another record high: 64
It was similarly warm up here (my dashboard read 60 earlier today), but the temperature tumbled when the rain moved in. Mid-40s now, only two hours later.
Last night, had a 40% chance of flurries. Turns out I woke up to 2" of flurries and school delays in my area. 30 miles south and east, places that were supposed to get 2" tops got 8. Supposed to warm up into the 40's Thursday before rain, then a cold front and a change to snow on the backside (probably not much). Pats fans and people flying back to Logan and TF Green from Minneapolis after the game may have to endure the remnants of a possible Sunday snowstorm. Not liking the next two weeks; payback for an extended January thaw after the deep freeze.Well that's a forcast bust if I've ever seen one. :bigass: Now, can I have some of that snow?

This is an all time low, RGT. At least describe the weather.
His posts may be brief, but they are an answer to the question at hand.

47 degrees isn't the weather. That's the temperature. "Weather" encompasses many things beyond temperature, such as how dry or wet it is, if it's windy, etc.
The original post describes both temp and precip. I would assume that this is the baseline for a response, as it would be in real life:
"What's the weather, John?" "64 and raining, Mary."
Seattle is entering a dry streak. No rain in the forecast for at least four days (and Thursday looks to be mostly dry with a passing AM shower). Temps relatively steady in the low- to mid-50s. Beyond Thursday, I don't see any rain in the forecast. I'll take it! Especially after a very rainy January.

The missing rain in Seattle has, I believe, found a home in Atlanta. We got something like 1.5 inches yesterday (mixed with some sleet/ice in the far northern suburbs), with thunderstorms in the forecast all day on Wednesday, and a likely complete washout for the coming weekend. It'll be fairly mild, though, with highs around 60 for most of the week.
We're dry today, though. Sunny and 39 right now, with a forecast high near 50.

This is an odd thread. What’s the weather right now? It’ll be a never ending conversation.
A bit of snow midday
Snow is back in the forecast! Maybe winter isn't over here.
Apparently we're getting a hard freeze tonight with lows possibly 27-28F. That won't be good for local crops but ought to make for clear views of the Sierras and empty streets when I run tomorrow.

Is that normal for your area at this time of year? (I don't know whether you live in a high elevation area or not.)
Tomorrow is a record high of 70°, beating the previous record of 62°. (It was an easily beatable record; if it was up to 2 days earlier or one later, it would only be about a 4-5° difference instead of 8°, and if it was 2 days later, it would not be a record at all.)

It was a high of 12°C (54°F) and sunny here in Kitchener and it was great! I didn't even need my tuque and gloves
We like snow here, and it would be great if this actually happens. At Lake Tahoe (6229') it would easily double the snow we've had all season so far.I am so glad I got through there last weekend! This is gonna shut things down for a bit...

Well over a foot of snow at this point. Some places southwest of Albany got have 3 feet so far. So much for this thing being all rain.
Same here in the CT valley, but go up in the hills north or west of Waterbury, and there was snow, with almost a foot in parts of Litchfield County. Forecasters are still trying to push the idea that wraparound moisture will hit the valley and the Worcester and NE CT hills, but it’s still 40 degrees where I am. Today was weird in that NYC got snow and we didn’t.Well over a foot of snow at this point. Some places southwest of Albany got have 3 feet so far. So much for this thing being all rain.

Sunny, but cold (48 now after a high of 49) and windy. We're under a freeze warning tonight (down here, sub-freezing temperatures in March are notable). Staying colder than average for the next week, with (what else?) rain this weekend. We got a low of 26 here in Indy. It was up to the 80s, nearly 90s, in February!
Absolutely gorgeous today. About 70 degrees, sunny, calm, a day out of summer. Hasn't been this nice since Labor Day.

We regret to inform you that spring has been cancelled this year.
Well, okay, the severe weather mentioned a couple posts up by adventurernumber1 was pretty springlike. Down here inside I-285, I got a light show that kept me from falling asleep for a couple hours, but all the tornadic activity was confined to the west.
Today, though, is cold and windy, which seems to have been a theme for Wednesdays lately for some reason. 39 degrees at 10 AM; we might manage to hit 50 today (average for this date is 66).
I’m in eastern Nova Scotia. We’ve had three Nor’easters in about 12 days and each has started with a bit of snow then quickly changed to rain. It will be +3 or 37F today.
But go a little west from here to the Annapolis Valley, Northern Nova Scotia and on up into New Brunswick and they’ve got a fair amount of snow out of each storm.
We regret to inform you that spring has been cancelled this year.F'real, it's only getting above 50 one day in the next 10. March came in like a lamb for one day, a lion for about 20, and is going out as a gazelle or a gnu or some sort of horse-type beast like an okapi.

We had a white Easter in Kansas City today. Winter decided to reappear after a month-long hiatus. We had t-shirt and shorts weather two weeks ago, and we hadn't had any snow since late February. Without knowing I took this pic today, I would have guessed this was taken January 1 instead of April 1.
Snowing here in South Jersey this morning. After a 65 degree Easter yesterday, and the forecasters constantly saying the snow wouldn't stick to the roads, the snow stuck rather quickly this morning. My direction was slow and steady in the way to work, but there were a few spinouts into signs and guardrails on the other side of the road.
We had some of everything yesterday: drizzle (of course), rain, a dusting of snow, hail a couple of times, lightning, even a little sunbreak in the early afternoon.

Looks like we're about to experience some more the mid 20's temp bullshit this weekend. :banghead:
Haha, probably viewed the same way me living Los Angeles and having to hear people in Oklahoma City complain about traffic I assume? I hate the cold with a few exceptions. I don't know how I'd survive in MN but I'm sure I'd eventually get used to it. In LA, it isn't uncommon for people to start wearing scarfs when it gets below 60 or even 65. It was 20-ish degrees here a couple days ago and I just shrugged.

Well, Canadian geese are a bunch of pricks.
It's a clear 64-degree evening here after a high of around 80. Despite that, I find myself venturing outside only when absolutely necessary thanks to back-to-back days with pollen counts over 5000, which my sinuses do not appreciate in the slightest. So I have mixed feelings about the rain expected to come in Saturday night–Sunday morning; hopefully that won't derail any weekend plans, but it should at least temporarily remove the yellow coating over everything.
So far, April in Seattle has been a total disappointment. Passing showers almost every day since the first, and highs maxing out in the mid-60s on a few days only (mostly low- to mid-50s). March felt like summer in comparison.
We're experiencing a "potentially historic" freezing rain warning in Southern Ontario: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/possible-ice-storm-for-london-and-area-1.4620055 (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/possible-ice-storm-for-london-and-area-1.4620055). Luckily I'm staying home studying anyway (though it would suck if the power goes out).
What gets me is why do they still call it a winter storm warning or a winter weather advisory ect. The official end of winter was March 20th almost a month ago yet they still call it winter when it technically isn't.

Depending on your specific location and the time of day this past weekend, we had snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet, or graupel.

Spring, until yesterday and today, has been nonexistent in the northeastern US. It’s been absolutely miserable, with March and April having both resembled February. Even after this April Thaw with 70’s yesterday and maybe 70 today, we’ll see cold rain possibly mixed with sleet at higher elevations and highs in the 30’s tomorrow X-( with 6-12” of snow possible in northern New England.

Not sure how it works in the Northeast, but many of Seattle's historic snow storms have occurred in Autumn (although almost all post-Thanksgiving). The running gag around here is that winter is actually late November through February. Snow in March or April is very uncommon.
Says the one who's had 7 days straight of measurable snowfall.....(not to mention some sleet and freezing rain mixed in the past few days)....
#February3.0
Given the way last fall was, I'm guessing we had an extra August or September last year and are now a month behind. At least that's how it feels like.
Yesterday it went from 86 to 58 in Portland (midnight high). Talk about a temperature swing. 3 days of wet before we warm up again.

May has been a warm month, about 5 degrees above average, but with March and April having been unusually cool, the overall spring average is pretty much right on target (+0.6 degrees).

It's been nearly 90 for a few days now. Heat is expected to stay in place for most of next week too, which is awful.
The summers have been getting hotter, and most homes (even up through the 90s, like mine) were not built with air conditioning. The way the suburbs were built also contribute to major heat waves, especially since naturally cool streams have been paved over with hot asphalt and concrete. Also doesn't help that so much of our land (at least in the US) is just grassland. I go for a walk everyday at work and I was thinking (as I was frying in the heat) about how few trees there are in our office complex, even though there's a massive empty field in front of one of the buildings. It's so unnecessary!

Some people can't handle air conditioning, some households have different temperature preferences (which is why my house in unequipped), and some housing associations forbid the use of outward-facing ACs for appearances.
This summer has been unusual in that it has been very dry (no rain, and parched lawns) yet also very muggy (extremely high humidity to the point of being uncomfortable). Seems kind of like a paradox.

It's been constantly hazy here for the last several days. It's most noticeable at sunrise and sunset, where the sky looks darker than usual, but it's nowhere near as bad as that.
Air quality index is surging into the 300s for a lot of outlying areas, and parts of the metro area are now in the high 200s. This means long-term health risks.

Dang Crazy to think that wildfire smoke can happen in other places besides California.
Dang Crazy to think that wildfire smoke can happen in other places besides California.
Virtually all of the Puget Sound's smoke comes from British Columbia. For the nth-Summer in a row, BC is being ravaged by wildfires. When the winds shift to northerly (from the north), the smoke gets blown down from the Fraser Valley, and straight into Seattle. The Seattle-area can get smoke from other places, but IIRC, BC is the primary culprit.

Thanks to Florence, I'm under a ridge of high pressure. Dry since Sunday and probably dry until Monday or Tuesday. Gorgeous late summer weather
We saw our first freeze of the season this morning with temperatures falling to 31. A mostly sunny day will lift us comfortably into the mid-50s, though.
The Philly suburbs got screwed again. The forecast was up to an inch of snow, then a change to sleet, then a change to rain. At 11AM, we had two inches of snow and everyone panicked and left work, schools closed early, and all before the plows were just getting out. Most peoples commutes were 4-6 hours plus because everything became a gridlocked mess of stuck cars and trucks. Oh, and the snow didn't change to sleet until 4-6 inches later, around 6PM.I was looking at Google Maps around 3:30 and the entirety of Pennsylvania (at least east of Pittsburgh) just looked like a disaster with the traffic layer turned on. On the CBS Evening News, I saw footage from Lancaster that looked absolutely treacherous.
So tired of all the rain. It’s been raining all weekend. We went to L’Auberge Chez François in Great Falls for dinner last night and it was a very nerve-wracking drive due to a lot of standing water flooding various roads (one road I wanted to use was closed), plus a tree down on Wiehle Avenue in Reston.
The weather on Friday for travel on the East Coast sounds less than promising. We're planning to drive to Jacksonville. Looks like it'll feel like a very long day.

It’ll be raining here in our area of JAX (Deerwood-Southside) on Thursday but not Friday. My one and only big sister should be ok as long as her flight here from EWR Friday afternoon/evening isn’t delayed or canceled like it has been on occasion. United can suck it.

The forecast maps on last night’s news make it look like the part of the trip through Virginia and the Carolinas could be very rainy. My wife suggested leaving late Thursday and driving three or four hours, but I said no—if I’m gonna drive any distance in the rain, I’d prefer doing it during the day.

We’re in Jacksonville and it’s 47° but feels 41°. Last night it was colder here than it was at home and the wind made it hard to steer a straight line. Welcome to sunny Florida, huh? (I won’t miss the sun today if it stays cloudy because we have another day of driving in front of us.)

I missed your post about Jacksonville. Spent too much time trying to figure out how it could be that hot in DC in December.
Usually at some point during the winter the DC area will have a couple of 70° days, but not usually in December.

In Chicagoland--wind and rain with daytime temperatures in the low 40s. Then it RISES to the low 50s overnight, and starts dropping into the lower 30s. The warmest temperatures of the entire month of December might occur in the middle of the night. How bizarre is that?

It does change on a day to day basis...warmer, colder, rain, sun, snow, clouds. But that's true in many areas.

Unseasonably warm. It hit 61 in Seattle proper!Mid 50s down in Corvallis and the same in Portland. Stupid marine layer (although I like the cold).

hahaha the snow won't stop falling! I thought it would have stopped by now.
European model is projecting some snow next weekend:
I woke up this morning to find the tops of cars in the parking deck outside my window coated in white, which was a mild surprise since there was no precipitation in the forecast. Nothing sticking to the ground, though, and it's all melted now. Sunny and 38 now after a morning low of 29, headed for the mid-50s.

Awaiting 12+ inches of snow
After a few days of cloudy weather with dense fog advisories at night, we're supposed to have a squall line of thunderstorms move through this evening. There's a marginal/slight risk of severe storms today for wind and tornadoes. Tornado watch is already in effect to the west in Alabama. We'll see what happens; it's looking to be the most exciting weather we've had in a long time.
22 degrees, windy, and still snowing. Hasn't stopped snowing since my post early today, and looks like it will continue to snow for several more hours with a chance of extra lake effect tomorrow. Hard to estimate the current total due to all the drifting, but it's easily over 6 inches, with some drifts over a foot.
All 4 of the counties my hometown touches have declared level 3 snow emergencies, which means the roads are closed to non-emergency personnel.

...A Wintry Mix and Wind into Wednesday Morning...
.A winter storm system will bring a mixture of freezing drizzle,
freezing rain, snow, and stronger winds to the state today and
tonight. A more widespread moderate snow along with ice is
expected. The ice will be more prevalent over southern areas this
morning with lighter amounts north with snow mainly over the north
through mid afternoon. Later in the afternoon and tonight another
period of moderate snow is expected to set up farther south into
central and eastern Iowa. The combination of ice, snow and winds
increasing this evening will create hazardous travel over much of
the area by later today and tonight.
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST
WEDNESDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation. Snow accumulations of 4 to 6
inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an
inch.
* WHERE...Portions of Central Iowa.
* WHEN...Until 6 AM CST Wednesday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy
blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening
commute.

I'd probably agree, actually. As long as I can see the sun, I'm generally fine with it being cold. I've absolutely hated this winter not because it's cold, but because it seems like it's constantly raining and/or cloudy.

The National Weather Service has just issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Atlanta metro area, warning of possibly up to 2 inches of snow on Tuesday.
We'll see what happens; it's still unclear whether most of the precipitation will fall before or after the colder air arrives. If it turns out to be before, it'll just be yet another day of cold rain.

What is with the bicycle signal on the left in your link? It's halfway pointed at the ground.
There's a chance of snow here where I am in northwestern Georgia on Tuesday.Don't you guys get more snow than Atlanta due to elevation?
I echo the posts that say just a little bit of snow could close a lot in a city or region that is not as prepared for handling it as other areas - this includes where I live. Snow and ice, no matter how much, will more often than not close schools over here.
While Seattle is pretty far north, it is known more for rain than snow - I believe this is because it lies within the biome of "Temperate Rainforest," if I recall correctly. Hell, even the southeastern reaches of Alaska may fall within the outer boundaries of the wider range of this biome (Marine West Coast) along the western coast of North America - according to what I have learned in my Physical Geography class that I am taking this semester in college, just this past week.
Many places around the country can handle snow (and lots of it) like a boss, but not everyone gets as much snow where it is worth being just as prepared. :-P

I'd mock Seattle for not having their shit together, but then again that amount of snow really sucks when it's hilly. Not being prepared for it only makes that worse.
I was under the impression that weather like this was an annual thing, maybe once per year.I'd mock Seattle for not having their shit together, but then again that amount of snow really sucks when it's hilly. Not being prepared for it only makes that worse.
The Washington State Patrol informed us this morning that we were, in fact, not prepared for this storm. Well, no shit! We never get any practice. Never mind the hills. It's just almost impossible in some places, even for those with the right vehicle, and the right skills. Funny thing is, I'm sure there were more than a few crashes caused by people out trying to learn how to drive in the snow. I feel bad for them, but at least they're out there trying to conquer the dreaded white bastard.
It's now just after 1300 PST, and the temperature is still 24F. Which is just really, really unusual. It's not midwest cold, but for us to be below freezing all day is just not normal at all. Tonight should be down into the low teens. Tomorrow morning's roads might be worse than today.
I was under the impression that weather like this was an annual thing, maybe once per year.
The snow. I feel like there are videos of vehicles sliding down snow- and/or ice-covered hills every year.

Here, on the other hand, most of the snow has melted. Once the polar vortex receded the temperatures soared into the 40s, and now it's practically all gone. All that's left in my yard are the mountains from shoveling and the windrow from plowing along the street.
