Title: New Utah Highways Blog!
Post by: US 89 on March 29, 2020, 12:48:27 PM
Since I've found myself with a little bit more extra time than usual, I've decided to start a blog about Utah highways. I plan on covering historic alignments, current routes, future construction, and really anything else road-related in the state that people might be interested in:

That's pretty cool to see something Utah centered pop up.  We have a bunch of southern Utah related highway articles on our blog.  You looking for any co-contributers or partnering with another blog site?

Would be nice if the Blogger based lightbox included the captions for the images. Makes it hard to follow the articles when you get the whole slideshow and no context.

The maximum image size is fairly generous too at 250kb which would make that a cool feature to have.

I hadn't actually thought about that. Not in my plans as of now but if it ever comes up I'll definitely let you know.

I'd like to make the images bigger in the post itself to reduce the need to even use the lightbox, but the white background on the post doesn't change size - so the images run over into the darker background, which is annoying and also can make them harder to see. To be honest I don’t like the lightbox all that much because you can't zoom in without moving to the next image. A lot of the images I use are maps, and some of those have quite a bit of interesting detail that can only be seen at higher zoom levels.

I've found as of late that I have to use a close snip to get the image clarity on maps that I want.  The trouble is that I can't caption the maps which means I really have to be descriptive in the narrative of the article which I find kind of obtuse.  Doug uses the format differently than I do and it does a pretty good job at convey what you want as a caption in the scrolling narrative.

I’ve gone ahead and created a route log listing out every state route that’s ever existed in Utah:

https://uthighways.blogspot.com/p/route-log-1-150.html
https://uthighways.blogspot.com/p/route-log-151-901.html

Sure, you could get largely the same list on Wikipedia, but where’s the fun in that? Actually, this log is intended to be an index to help you find any posts I’ve made about a given route - and also to help me identify what I should post about next.
