OK, I can understand interchangeable greenout plaques for population, because that changes frequently. But elevation? Is global warming climate change really that bad that it's changing elevations above sea level?

The Big One could always sink the region by a few feet.  :D

Eventually melting icebergs will raise the sea level enough that the sea level figures quoted won't be accurate to the actual sea level. I'm not sure whether the plan is to recalibrate all the elevation data we have or to just define the nominal sea level as what it was in 2000 or something like that, with the understanding that if you need elevation above true sea level you subtract X feet from it.

But I think the more likely cause of this is that one of the button copy digits got damaged or went missing after CA stopped keeping old stock around to replace it, so they did a greenout patch over the whole elevation rather than having one mismatched digit.
