I have just updated the California Highway pages with the updates for September and October. As for my usual introduction .... Go over to the 2021 Changes page ( https://www.cahighways.org/chg2021.html#2021-10 or https://cahighways.org/wordpress/?p=16179 ), and you can read the incredibly clever and witty introduction that I wrote, but decided not to post in full here because I didn't want to deal with (username)"˜s reaction this time. Trust me, it was really good. (Those who have read my last few highway page update posts probably know what I'm referencing)

On a more serious note: In reviewing the AARoads forum for the updates, I've noticed we haven't had a post from SParker since mid-September. He normally contributes really useful insights to the group, and I hope that he is well.

As for the real introduction: September and October were interesting months. Newsom survived the recall attempt, and it will be interesting to see the impact of his survival on the roadbuilding and road rehabilitation programs of the state, as well as the future of High Speed Rail. There have been massive wildfires in the Northern and Eastern parts of the state that have impacted roads. I normally don't note fire damage here because it will be repaired, but these fires have resulted in major closures on roads such as US 50, Route 88, Route 299 and much more. Let's hope for their speedy and complete repair. As road lovers, we are all too aware of the impact of (noun) on highways, be it flooding on Route 37, fires on the roads in the Sierra Nevada or other forests, or damage from flash flooding out in the desert. This is one reason why emphasis of transportation programs is changing from building more roads and getting more vehicles from place to place faster to increasing capacity and improving the movement of people.

The changes that come from the Intrastructure bill just passed will be covered in the final round of 2021 updates.

And with that, here's the links to the changes pages again: https://www.cahighways.org/chg2021.html#2021-10 or https://cahighways.org/wordpress/?p=16179

Ready, set, discuss.

Did you happen to see the 182 and 266 blogs I recently did?  They had some interesting tidbits regarding how those corridors developed but I wasn't sure if they came up before your update schedule hit.

Both were published after November 1, so they will be in the November headlines posts and will be addressed in the updates I work on at the end of December.

I note the following from your page:

Quote

ACR 67 (Quirk-Silva) Tommy Lasorda Memorial Highway.
This measure would designate I-5 from Ball Road OC 55-670 at ORA 37.638 to Eastbound exit Route 91 at ORA 42.671, within the County of Orange as the "Tommy Lasorda Memorial Highway" .

Tommy Lasorda lived in Fullerton, only a few blocks away from the 91 freeway near the Brookhurst exit.  If the section of 91 between I-5 and Euclid were named in his honor, that would be one thing (as 91 forms the border between Fullerton and Anaheim).

It is quite interesting, though, that the section named for him is actually whithin Anaheim.  Ball Rd forms the northern boundary of Disneyland.  I-5/Ball Rd is also only two miles from Angels stadium.  To an extent it is almost an affront to the team, especially considering that Tommy Lasorda famously said:

"The only Angels in Los Angeles are in Heaven, and they're looking down on the Dodgers."

Lasorda does deserve some recognition with a street naming near Dodger Stadium.  Elysian Park Ave was renamed for Vin Scully, perhaps Stadium Way should be renamed for Lasorda.

The only explanation I can think of is that the stretch near Fullerton was already named. I have all the naming resolutions I could find on my pages, in postmile order. So it wouldn't be that hard to check.
