I could swear there was an AZ 89A there at one point also.

I've looked at the oldest Google image from 2009 and the only difference is the bottom signs were in highway gothic rather than clearview.

It probably has something do with 89A ending up Milton where it picks up the I-40BL.  Even still though, you'd think there would be something directing traffic to AZ 89A since it is a major tourist route with Sedona and Jerome:

That photo, which you were posted as I was coming out of surgery this morning, looks a lot like the CA 180 sign photo within Kings Canyon Nat'l Park I took a year ago, except mine had snow on the ground. Is rhat where yours came from?

As the vote on this thread approaches its deadline, I would point out that while the "all numbers stay in play" option is in the lead, there are more votes for some kind of limitation than no limitation.  Not that it matters a whole lot.  I plan to keep playing a max of 3 per number and only before the next number is played.  I voted for the one week limit just because I find it more interesting to see what people have for a given number all at once.

While that's certainly a valid reasoning, my thing is this: I thought that the whole point of the thread was to amass a collection of as many routes as possible. I've actually gone on a few road trips to take pictures of routes solely to contribute to this thread. Most of those numbers I come across are old, and as far as I know most of those had not already been posted.

I understand it's a forum game, but it could also be an archive of sorts, too, which I think makes it more interesting. Just my 2¢.

I agree with this, I've been focusing a lot more on signage than I usually do on road trips just to get some new signs for this thread that have been repeat numbers.  But then again that's why I voted to keep every number open.

I think it might be interesting to just have a thread, or even a separate site, that amasses a collection of all the road sign pictures in one place.  Or just a group on flickr where we try to cover as much ground as possible.  My goal is to "conquer" each state, which is a word I made up to define the act of getting at least one photo of each signed state, US, and Interstate highway in a given state.  I finished Illinois, and am trying to collect every highway in Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin...plus maybe Ohio (but wow Ohio is a lofty goal).  I don't think this thread was meant to be comprehensive in any way, but it is doing a fine job of demonstrating what we're capable in covering a great deal of America's highways.

I did say in the initial post that this thread is not just about advancing numbers but about showing what our members have collected themselves.

It's been a little over 24 hours since the last number, so 181 is in play.

Texas SH 181 (a Business Route) on US 181:

*goes back to check the OP*

Ah, there it is, right in the second sentence... I knew I wasn't going mad. Somehow I missed that while writing my post above, because I checked it and didn't see that line. I was even going to quote it.

On another point, it seems silly to me to make such a drastic rule change this far into it. All those posts that no longer fit any supposed new rules are going to be out of place, plus I also think that adding such restrictions would discourage some people, especially newcomers, from participating. This would become even more true once we start getting above the 300-400 range. If I came into the thread new and we were on 400, I'd only have probably three or four pictures I could share, since where I live and take pictures route numbers only rarely get above that amount.

Eth

I haven't voted in the poll and honestly don't have a particularly strong opinion either way.

That said, my general area is pretty sparse in numbers in the high 100s and low 200s, so I'll take this opportunity to fill in a few lower numbers I was able to pick up last weekend.

My thoughts on the voting, since it's been asked...

I voted to keep the numbers going in sequence, just because I find the thread a little harder to follow mentally. If I'm scrolling through a bunch of 176's, for example, and then suddenly there's a 6, and a 22, and a whole page full of 174's and 173's, I suddenly can't keep track of what number I'm supposed to be looking for. This was especially apparent to me because I started following the thread quite late, so I was trying to binge the whole thing from the beginning.

Thus, if it were up to me, I'd just let the numbers keep advancing every day. But, whatever the rule is, it is. When I set up the Daily Challenge, I purposely made it to be always current, and we're still getting a lot of good coverage from people all around. (And people are coming up with lots of good Challenges and submitting quite an interesting variety of photos, I must say!) So, that's what the rule is over there, and whatever it is over here, that's cool too. :-)
