Seems like it would be hard for the colorblind to distinguish between Walk and Don't Walk. You'd have to rely on signal positioning.

The two are clearly different, but to me, neither one particular reads as "Walk" or "Don't Walk" so much as both reading as "Gyrate in place".

It also doesn't allow things like blue stripes between double yellow lines, rainbows between crosswalk lines, murals in low-volume intersections, and other assorted fun things, but municipalities do them anyways and the FHWA has more important things to worry about.
