US 611...in Columbia, NJ?

That sign replaced an older US 611 shield, which based on its design and level of wear was quite possibly old enough to have been accurately posted on the US 611 mainline at the time it was erected (611 was moved off the Portland-Columbia Bridge to its current route on the PA side of the river in 1965, and downgraded to a state route in 1972).
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
