Put on a hardhat vest and drive a white pick up truck. I'm sure nobody would bad and eye unless it was a police officer driving by.

Eh, most wouldn't have the nerve to chance it.  Paranoia alone is a deterrent, eight mounting bolts is another.  There is a reason you don't see much FDOT stuff on the second hand market.

I don't think the Florida man is really that concerned about any consequences to their actions.

Getting off the discussion of stealing 666 signs and 420 signs for the moment, I'd like to discuss the old configuration of the intersections of US 19, 98, Alternate US 27 and 129 in Chiefland.
https://historicaerials.com/?layer=map&zoom=11&lat=29.481667&lon=-82.862222
I know about Chiefland Jr.-Sr. High School using part of the old road, but if the configurations of the past are as depicted in Historic Aerials, I am truly glad they're built the way they are today. Having said that I would've liked seeing the previous configuration, because it looks like Alternate US 27 was a divided highway from US 129, and the current intersection of US 19-98 and Alternate US 27 was previously a southbound connecting ramp. And if that's true, I hope FDOT had the sense at the time to provide two different left-turn lanes at the southern terminus.

It's funny how for all the complaining my father does about the drivers on I-4, up here in Maryland I've seen a number of Florida drivers go at or below the speed limit.

Retirees don't generally drive super fast.  Fair chance you're seeing snowbirds returning home for the summer.

The funny thing about it is, in another universe the FL 417 tollway around Orlando might've been designated as I-404, which would be appropriate given the range of state highways that exist in the area.

It does connect with US-17 in 2 places, effectively acting as an unofficial bypass-auxiliary route numbered like an Interstate. This would hold valid for both the full and half beltway instances.

Or, you could be seeing drivers of various ages who had too many tickets (including in Florida), and don't want to lose their licenses on the way through Maryland.

New topic; I vaguely remember something about a proposal to add a roundabout to the intersection of US 17 and FL 40 in Barberville. I still say it'd be a bad idea because of the close proximity to the railroad tracks. What I didn't mention was that if they were going to build a roundabout anywhere along that segment of FL 40, maybe one with FL 11 would be the better choice.

Who names their Turnpike possessively? Florida is just full of psychos.

Max Rockatansky

"The Florida Freeway" name was already taken.

What was wrong with "Florida Turnpike"?

Maybe the turnpike should revert to its previous name: the Sunshine State Parkway. Nah!

Weird take but I guess it was in case Georgia, Alabama, and New York had any sneaky plans for repossession.

Yeah, that might make people from up north think that trucks aren't allowed there. If some family from Long Island or Connecticut, or wherever arrives with a pickup camper and drives along I-75 through Wildwood, they could see the name "Parkway" and falsely assume that they're going to be decapitated by some low bridge.

A few weeks ago on GSV, I noticed a peculiar looking "TO I-75" sign on the northbound exit ramp from the Turnpike to US-301. It looked like an interstate business route sign, but with white auxiliary plates. I initially thought this was an illusion or a camera glitch, so I decided to have a look for myself. This is what I found...

For anyone with access, feel free to put this in the AARoads shield gallery if desired.

It's the only mention of "Business Spur 75" anywhere--no other sign or FDOT record suggests it exists (after checking the adjacent roads). Is this a new designation, thus marking Florida's first official interstate business route, or is it possible this is an error using the wrong sign?

Could "Sunshine State Turnpike" make more sense  :bigass: ?

Business Spur 75 in Florida.  :-/

Since that sign points to BS 75, the only guess I could think of is that they want an Interstate Business Spur to The Villages. Either that, or it's truly an error by Region #5.

If there were to actually be a BS-75, my guess would be it at minimum follows SR-44 between I-75 & US-301, maybe further (i.e. Inverness or the Villages). Possibly, this?

The new sign did replace an older "TO I-75" sign as seen here https://maps.app.goo.gl/KdqBmDyTPk7bCGci9

Dammit, I thought I put that in my message. I can see I didn't. But yes, an overlap of BS 75 and SR 44 from I-75 into The Villages.

Re: Hurricane Milton

What roads are at risk of damage requiring long term closure?

Do we think this will add impetus for widening I-275/I-4 through Tampa?
