Does anyone know where I could find info regarding the rest of the proposed freeway?  Google only shows info on the current section that opened within the past few years that is K-14/96 from Hutchinson to Sterling.

However the plan is to eventually build it to I-70 at Hays to provide better access to Wichita from points west along I-70.  I did find information that Great Bend hopes to benefit from this, so I'm assuming that it would pass that city and most likely realign K-96 from Sterling to Great Bend eliminating the overlap with US 56 from Great Bend to Lyons and also very likely to be given a new number from Great Bend to Hays.

Although years away from it happening are there any maps showing a rough estimate of where it would run?

Here is the Sterling-Great Bend route plan.

As far as I can tell, KDOT has not bid out nor the Kansas Legislature financed any studies on an extension to Hays yet.

Why do they call something smack-dab in the middle of the state "Northwest"?

Just as there is a major arterial to the NE from Wichita to Topeka and KC, I think there is a desire to provide the same kind of arterial connectivity to the NW of Kansas from Wichita.

If you think of it from a north-south trade perspective, there seems to be 2 gateways into Kansas for Mexican trade.

I-35 via Wichita or US-69 up through Pittsburg and on to KC.

Western Kansas clearly has some opportunities when its comes to low cost manufacturing, but need some optimized connectivity that doesn't rely on the Salina Elbow. Especially Great Bend.

US 69 is already in consideration for full freeway south of Fort Scott as the plan is to make it all that into Oklahoma despite it being redundant to nearby I-49 in Missouri.

I believe the Pittsburg bypass is been studied for final recommendations as the chosen route would be a new alignment west of the current US 69/160 starting at US 400 northward. Whether it's been funded and property secured I'm not sure.

I do know that the US 166/400 freeway alignment is completed ( and captured on GSV already) and that I'm guessing is part of the US 69 corridor upgrade.

This is the updated study done last year when the prior one got tossed due to being stale.
