I've crossed that bridge at least 16 times by now. Is 800 meters of boredom on the lower deck of a bridge too much for you to handle?

Fortunately, there is an alternative. You can cross over the Ohio River on the I-265 bridge in the area for a low price of $2.10, only $2.10 more than the $0.00 on the I-64 bridge !

I think the point is some people don't like the fact that the bridge design doesn't use center supports. The single span is longer than the length of the individual spans if it had used a center support. The spans are up to 100' feet but that is far less than the length of plenty of other spans in deck bridges.

Actually it is a safer design, because the biggest reason deck bridges fail in the US is because traffic (most often TT-Combos) strike the center support (that you so badly miss) and knock one or both sides of the bridge down.

The wide shoulder caught my attention. This overpass was built to accommodate future road expansion. That's a good thing.

Confused by this question...putting the old road back into service as the SB lanes would require a new bridge and interchange entirely unless there were going to be tight S curves on both sides of NC 87 bypass.
