Yesterday it came to my attention that at multilane roundabouts in Iceland, the inside lane has priority in taking any exit, even if the exit has only one lane. Here's an example. I learned this from a Facebook commenter who said he had a hard time with it when visiting the country.

That seems like a very unintuitive and unsafe way of doing it.  Do they have any rationale for why?

They must, but I have no clue what it could be.

I am pretty sure we were not aware of this during our 2021 Iceland trip.  It's not something that I would have thought differs from country to country.

I never saw evidence of this either.

Maybe to prevent the "There's Big Ben, there's Parliament" scenario from European Vacation to allow traffic over?

It definitely does differ between countries. https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=34850.0

This is perhaps the first complaint I've ever heard about Iceland, both online and in-person.

The 7th eruption of the 2023-2024 sequence began late yesterday evening. It's at the same location as the August 2024 eruption, however the lava flow has progressed farther west this time.

The parking lot of the Blue Lagoon (Iceland's biggest tourist attraction) has been covered by lava, as well as Highway 43 again and Highway 426 as well.

They built earth levees to guide the lava flow around the Svartsengi geothermal powerplant and the Blue Lagoon spa.
