Good joke, although that team died 70 years ago, with the era of having two teams in cities not named Chicago or New York coming to an end.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Also there was an Official Proclamation back in November as to the team's abbreviation on a TV scorebug, an out-of-town scoreboard, etc.  Where the Yankees are NYY, the Mets NYM and so forth, this team is supposed to be ATH.

The San Francisco Chronicle says, uh, we'll call you what we want to.

Quote from: John Shea in the SF ChronicleThe Chronicle has decided not to follow the A's guidelines and will call them the Sacramento Athletics or Sacramento A's online and in print stories. The Chronicle's sports editor, Christina Kahrl, who grew up in the Sacramento area an A's fan, signed off on the decision, along with using the "SAC" designation and not "ATH" in the standings and other agate. Other Hearst newspapers are aboard as well, a nifty decision that oozes with common sense.

What is the franchise's logic behind denying that the A's for the time being represent Sacramento?

Probably because they know ahead of time that this move to Sacramento is temporary.

I have not seen any explanation of it by management, but would say RZF has it right.  Phrasing it my own way, "Oakland Athletics", "Sacramento Athletics" and "Las Vegas Athletics" is a lot of branding switches over a short period of time, so perhaps they prefer to abbreviate it to the constant part, "Athletics", until "Las Vegas" becomes part of the permanent branding.

And none of that changes the fact that they are indeed playing in Sacramento.  Might as make the best of it rather than draw attention to the fact that the host city can't get a mention in the team name.

Today is Truck Day at Fenway Park, where the Red Sox send a truck with equipment and supplies to Fort Myers in advance of spring training. In spite of the snow on the ground it's an early sign of spring. Now if only they can put a winning team together....

Meanwhile, the Cubs are setting up shop in Mesa, where they'll try to assemble a roster that will recreate that great season of 2016 for the ninth year in a row...

Alex Bregman 3/$120 to the Red Sox.

Signed him for $10M over the next highest bidder, making him play second so Rafael Devers can continue to be terrible at third, and you roadblock a top 5 prospect at 2B that you could pay 1/50 the salary to.

I'm sometimes amazed that the Red Sox have the most world series wins in the 21st century.
