the USFL hub model is so dumb. Might as well put teams in Tokyo, London, the moon, Narnia, middle earth, and the Mushroom Kingdom.

Well, the inaugural season of the UFL season has concluded, with a very familiar result. The Birmingham Stallions have shut out the San Antonio Brahmas 25-0 to win their third straight League Championship (USFL and UFL). Birmingham has been the most dominant spring football team since the XFL (2020) and the USFL (2022) debuted, and the two leagues merged after the 2023 season. I greatly look forward to the UFL kicking off their second season next spring.

So you're the one (based on attendance numbers I've read).

That league was still playing?

Coach Skip has done something Bill Belichick never did in winning three straight championships.

So you're the one (based on attendance numbers I've read).

Attendance wasn't great outside of St. Louis, but the TV numbers did OK. It's always going to be a niche product but that can work. They weren't much different than a regular season college basketball game.

I still think they need to tweak their scheduling. They need to be playing on Saturday-Sunday-Monday evenings, avoiding conflicts with golf and NASCAR, which are the spring weekend events that drive the most ratings (NBA/NHL/MLB are all days of the week so you can't avoid them). Also avoid playing the championship on Father's Day opposite the US Open.

Apparently they are moving a lot of their games to Friday nights with Fox picking up Indy car racing. It clearly isn't a huge priority to them but just a schedule filler.

I would have thought football (even a newer league out of normal season) would have more of a draw than golf, which has seen its popularity in retreat.

It might if it were good football. The play isn't good. There are no stars. There is no tradition. No reason to tune in.

TheHighwayMan3561

NFL fans are not necessarily general football fans, and even a lot of general football fans aren't interested in spring football. They want to take the traditional football offseason to focus on other sports.

I am a huge football fan. College on Saturday. NFL on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, etc.

But I have never watched a second of spring football.

Football fandom generally comes from living near, or sometimes in the case of college, attending the school of, the team that you favor. There are no Spring teams in the heavily populated Northeast and Midwest. Maybe they're fine with the attendance and ratings they're getting, but if they want to take it to the next level, they need to create a way for fans from those regions to identify with teams.

The NFL is engrained into our country in a way that other sports just aren't. Partly because it is easy to follow. (One game a week...usually on a Sunday afternoon in the fall and winter.) Spring football I don't think will ever have that following. There's just too much other stuff going on in the late Spring, early summer.

I watched a few minutes of the spring league here and there.  Each time I said out loud, "This should be a baseball game, dammit."
"That's just like... your opinion, man."

I think some of the goal is to bring pro football to places that don't currently have teams (Memphis, San Antonio, and Birmingham, along with St. Louis post-2015 are frequent sites for every spring league that pops up and goes away).
