I am taking a trip from Southeastern VA to the western suburbs of Atlanta, GA to visit a friend of mine. I am not on a time-crunch on my way down there so I would like to try and stay off interstates as much as possible and cinch more US/State Routes. Does anyone have any suggestions for this trip? The weather is looking good, so I figured it would be a good time to do it!

I suppose US 58 west all the way to Martinsville, US 220 south to US 311 to Winston-Salem, interstates to Charlotte to I-77 south to Rock Hill, SC 121 to SC 72, then follow that west all the way into GA (where it becomes GA 72) to Athens, then GA 316 to I-85 to Atlanta.

If not for Helene causing devastation in the mountains of VA, NC, and SC, I would stay on US 58 probably all the way to Abingdon, then 81 and 40 to Knoxville, then make my way to US 411 to avoid Chattanooga, then pick up I-75 near Cartersville and take that towards Atlanta.  But part of 58 near Independence was washed out, and I'm not too sure about other services between Galax and Abingdon.

VA 16 north from US 58 to I-81 at Marion is still open. That would be a pleasant drive.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.
