In 1977, snow made it all the way down to *Miami*

The way I know exactly where this is and have stopped at that rest area numerous times...

Absolutely wild to see my old Florida panhandle stomping grounds get snowed on.

We've had bad luck in bringing weather disasters to places we visit in Florida in recent years.  We were in Bonita Beach (not unusual) not long before Ian clobbered it in 2022.  We were in Cedar Key for what was our first and so far only visit there earlier in the year 2023 before the first of the two big hurricane hits they have taken.  We made our first-ever stop in Tarpon Springs last summer, just a couple months before it got hit hard by Milton.  Last summer we also visited the panhandle, focused on Pensacola, for the first time besides just passing through and I'm happy to see that their disaster that followed our visit is just a snowstorm that will hopefully have no lasting impacts.

(I'll also point out that I haven't been to the Los Angeles area in over 20 years so that's all not my fault.)
Photos I post are my own unless otherwise noted.

I would imagine most of the snow would melt today on the roads and should definitely be melted by the end of tomorrow.

One big problem will be refreezing overnight.

Yeah, it depends on how dry the roads get. They just get slushy and wet. It'll cause a mess overnight.

Just think of the people who left their convertibles parked outdoors with the roof down.

It pisses me off that I couldn't get there to document the event. It also pisses me off that the Virtual Railfan livestream cam in Folkston, Georgia crashed, and there's no way anyone can see how much snow is/was there.

And thus, the reason I still use an ice scraper on my windshield.

Quote from: roadman65 on November 29, 2024, 03:56:21 PMHeard that changes are coming for Broooksville. AASHTO approved relocation plans for its two US routes.

Don't know when signs are up, but it is coming. So far no info courtesy the Goog, but if anyone knows the link for AASHTO to check recent approval info you can post it for verification.

My source is an FDOT employee who knows first hand, but I'm thumbs with AASHTO stuff on line especially meeting minutes.

It is in the AASHTO database under the 2024 files for Florida.
I can't find that. I looked it up, and I found nothing about any changes to any highways. Instead, I found info about shipping and changes in a few random standards for various random aspects of highway material.

I have taken photos of the current US-41, US-98 and FL-700 signage throughout Brooksville prior to the sign changes. I can send the photos (40 total) to someone so they can be posted to the web (AAROADS.com?) Also, I plan on documenting the change in signage once FDOT has completed it. I live 30 minutes away from Brooksville. If anyone else wants any additional photos, please let me know.

I'm near Brooksville too. All the routes I've seen are the same as they were since I've been down in Florida back in 1999. What I'm having a hard time with is finding the changes in the AASHTO database.

It didn't work. I typed it in at first and it said;
"Please enter a search term to see your desired results."

Then I tried it elsewhere and I got this message instead;
"No records found."

@D-Dey65, I tried a screenshot of the search hoping that this helps you.

Damm! This is good stuff. I'm finding details about roads I thought I'd never find!

Not only did I find the current and formerly proposed realignments for US 41 and 98 in Brooksville, I encountered a whole slew of realignments, extensions, removals, and even unbuilt proposals like US 431 between US 331 and US 231. Thanks a lot for this.

Quote from: D-Dey65 on September 23, 2024, 07:42:07 PMBusiness Spur 75 in Florida.  :-/

Since that sign points to BS 75, the only guess I could think of is that they want an Interstate Business Spur to The Villages. Either that, or it's truly an error by Region #5.

If there were to actually be a BS-75, my guess would be it at minimum follows SR-44 between I-75 & US-301, maybe further (i.e. Inverness or the Villages). Possibly, this?

The new sign did replace an older "TO I-75" sign as seen here https://maps.app.goo.gl/KdqBmDyTPk7bCGci9

Confirmed: this is an error. There is not a BS-75 in FL, at least not yet.

Not in LA in over 20 years, huh? Was your last visit in early January of 1994, perchance?  :D

I forgot about 2007, so not quite 20 years.  At least I know I was not there in 1994..

Road Diet a few years back is now getting widened again.
That's not the read I got from the article.  It looks instead like it's actually finishing the road diet.  Note that it says that the barriers were supposed be temporary pending the full project and that the project will construct two travel lanes and a two-way left turn lane - not two travel lanes per direction.
