A board for AMA threads
« on: October 31, 2021, 09:17:33 PM »

Should we make a board about AMA threads without just clogging up the Off-Topic board with so many of those?

I would call this board "Ask me anything about"

For all I know, the Russian thread started this whole vast of AMA threads. This is just a suggestion!

They'll be gone in 2 weeks.

Most of the AMA threads seemed to have "died out" already, including the original Russia one. They'll be buried in the second page of the off-topic board pretty soon.

Most of them were generated out of pure sarcasm, the joke won’t last.

I thought it was the threads that got locked.

Even the Fresno and Key West threads I did were in jest.

The ones that got locked (my Antarctica one, Alanland and Big Bang) are blatant jokes, so it's easy to lock them. The others, not so much.

If we added a new board every time more than one of a type of thread was posted, we would have 4,800 boards and nobody would be able to find anything.

I'm a moderator who says no to this idea. AMA.

This is just a passing fad. The reality is that when a question is asked about a place with which a forum member has familiarity, they either will usually respond automatically, or someone will say, "Maybe so-and-so knows the answer to this..."

I can see the possibility of doing an entertainment board in Off-topic, similar to sports, but other than that, not sure any other boards are warranted. We get threads about music, movies, TV shows, and books occasionally, so there might be a demand for that. But this "ask me anything" deal won't really have any staying power.

Let the American Medical Association use their own website for a forum.
