U.S 60 and 67 freeway upgrade?

Does anyone know of any long term plans to upgrade this corridor U.S 60 and 67 from Sikeston to Poplar Bluff and from Poplar Bluff to the Arkansas State Line to freeway, perhaps if Arkansas finished the U.S 67 freeway to the state line?

Also, I know Missouri was planning to finish the four lane from Route 158down to the state line had that sales tax passed back in August, but was it going to be an upgrade of the existing route, or would it have been on a new alignment with interchanges?

I think the 60 upgrade was proposed, but given the MoDOT money crunch, don't look for it to happen.  Honestly, it's not bad now ... and I wish KY would build a few roads as nice as MO has in 60.

The U.S 60 corridor would only be upgraded to freeway between I-57 and Poplar Bluff in preparation for an eventual extension of I-57.

Even if there is road building money available other projects in Arkansas and Missouri are crying out for it. I-49 is arguably the biggest one.

Arkansas' plans are to continue to upgrade US 67 as a freeway up to the MO state line - but not as an Interstate.

My understanding is it hasn't been decided yet as of last November about whether they will continue the freeway or not. And if they do continue the freeway, it will be just like the route south of Hoxie/Walnut Ridge. The only way it won't be an Interstate is if they upgrade the existing route.

If I were Arkansas, I'd continue the Interstate-grade freeway or at least build an expressway that could later be converted to Interstate standards on a new alignment. It would not be difficult for Missouri to extend I-57 southwest along the U.S 60/U.S 67 corridor, few upgrades would be needed, since most of the highway is already four-lane divided expressway/freeway.

Of course, they should be focusing on that big segment of I-49 before dealing with this.

The overpass located off South Ingram in Sikeston is under construction on Monday, Dec. 11. Highway 60 from Sikeston to Poplar Bluff was designated as the future Interstate 57 by the U.S. Congress in 2017. Construction of this overpass off South Ingram is expected to be completed in late 2024.

Several years ago, with MoDOT's technical assistance, the city purchased the land required to create an interchange (overpass and on/off ramps) at Ingram Road and Highway 60, Douglass said.

The city received a Governor's Cost Share grant for $2 million of the $4 million needed to build the overpass. The Matthews and Boyer families also donated land for the outer road that connects Highway 61 (South Main Street) to the new overpass.

"The city of Sikeston and New Madrid County have partnered to build that outer road. MoDOT has begun construction on the overpass, and it is projected to be completed later in 2024," Douglass said.

MoDOT, according to Douglass, is now conducting a traffic study to investigate potential upgrades needed to allow access to future I-57 from I-55 in Sikeston to just west of Morehouse, Missouri.

More than likely what will happen is the portion of MO-114 south of US-60 is realigned into a frontage road east to Highway E/Benton St, then a interchange built there, for MO-114 to reconnect to the original alignment in downtown Morehouse. MO-114 north of US-60 will probably be cul-de-saced, with the portion west of Hwy E turned back to local control.

I'd be shocked if Missouri put up a separate overpass for MO-114, let alone an interchange.

Are they planning any major upgrades to the US 67 corridor north of Poplar Bluff? As for the US 60 corridor, I would suggest building a bypass around Mountain View, which is the only segment of US 60 between Republic and Poplar Bluff that is currently a five-lane undivided roadway.

The best thing to do would be to just build a diagonal alignment crossing over the new freeway. And more likely than not, an interchange would be built at Benton Street, but none for MO 114. Although if two partial interchanges are built as a compromise, then the one at MO 114 can be a NB/EB exit and a SB/WB entrance, with the opposite setup at Benton Street.

I would wait until I-57 is done from Walnut Grove to Poplar Bluff and see if the AADT goes up for US-67 to Festus.

If it draws a large amount of truck traffic for St Louis, then perhaps some updates here and there. But that could be 10-15 years from now.
