(For DE 1)  SR 1 at Tybouts Corner Public Workshop

I'm looking forward to seeing what ideas they have for this project, hopefully SR 1 will be prioritized as the more important thru route going forward.

It 100% is now.

As it has been before but the completion of 301 and a Freeway to Middletown/Maryland really signifies the growth of the area and need to beef up infrastructure.

Tybouts Corner clearly hasn't really been modified since it's birth and has handled the traffic the growth has emerged; but its time for an upgrade and they should really turn that interchange into a 95/1 interchange that can fully handle all traffic for now and the future.

A (now-retired afaik) traffic reporter on WDEL radio always referred to the flyover bringing nb 1 over 13 interchange 156 as "the jughandle at Tybouts Corner", as if that spot on the map was in New Jersey.

Here's a video on the preferred alternative for improving the SR 1 at the Tybouts Corner area.

That was quick!
I'm glad they're restriping the SB merge ahead of the full project getting underway.

Other than the 2 continuous lanes for DE 1 SB, and merging US 13 SB down to 1 lane, the rest seems to be a bit of a waste.  The traffic light they want to remove on US 13 isn't causing that much of an issue.

I agree with you 100%. It really seems like they are just putting a bandaid on the area with some upgrades that should have been done years ago. If they really wanted to improve this area they would redo the NB & SB 1 ramps to handle traffic & speed correctly, and also realign Hamburg Rd away from SB 1.

The signal removal is due to wrecks with people flying off SR 1 not realizing the freeway ends more than congestion, I just hope they aren't simply moving the worst wrecks to the Hamburg Road intersection.

Another question: DelDOT seems quite sure that US 202 ends at 95 north of Wilmington, but I see references to it continuing along 95 down to 141 on the internet. Was it truncated?

Havenít driven that way just yet but will before months end. Otherwise refs to 202 along 95 are absent from Wilmington proper south.

Sign plans for I-95 south at SR 141 removed US 202 when the interchange was being reconstructed. Similarly the sign plans on SR 141 north at I-95 north only included a shield assembly for U.S. 202:
https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=372.msg2508526#msg2508526

So US 202 is still considered to be concurrent with SR 141 along Basin Road, but DelDOT does a very sparse job of signing it. It has never been fully signed. And that being said, growing up in Delaware, no one ever referred to U.S. 202 along Basin Road, its was always just "141".

Per the 1984 application to AASHTO for the relocation of U.S. 202:

Quote
Extend U.S. 202 from existing U.S. 202 and I-95 along I-95 to Route 141 and along Route 141 to U.S. 13.

This is to provide a high capacity safe connection between U.S. 13, a major north-south route, and U.S. 202, a major route into Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Prior to I-95 opening, U.S. 202 connected to U.S. 13 across City of Wilmington Streets. The Department has received continuing requests for a re-establishment of a connection.

Quote
The rationale behind Delaware Department of Transportation's proposal to use Delaware Route 141 link with U.S. Route 13 over I-295 is as follows:

1) The section of I-295, just west of the Farnhurst Interchange is considered a high hazard location. A total of 34 accidents were reported in 1981-82-83.

2) The short weaving distance where I-495 merges with I-295 is undesirable for high traffic volume. Eastbound traffic from I-295 toward the U.S. Route 13 exit at the Farnhurst Interchange must weave to the right hand lane which conflicts with the thru traffic and is potentially hazardous.

3) Westbound traffic from U.S. Route 13 onto I-295 has to use a heavily impacted ramp that features a poor Level of Service. The average annual daily traffic (AADT) at this ramp in 1983 was 18,332óthe highest in the State.

4) I-295 is used as a major truck corridor between New York City and those states south of Delaware.

The weaving traffic pattern along Interstate 295 was finally eliminated in 2010 when a barrier was added separating traffic between I-95/495 entrance ramp and the U.S. 13/40 southbound exit ramp.

There is no reason to keep U.S. 202 along the overlaps with I-95 and SR 141, other than perhaps red tape.
Bob told me there has been some discussion for truncating U.S. 202 northward back to Wilmington, and also potentially having it extend south over SR 202 to U.S. 13 Business.

It is still posted from US 13/US 40 in New Castle last I checked.

while there's nothing along the majority of the concurrency, there is at its south end (1, 2, 3).

This signage is gone.  It's been replaced by some awful looking APL signage (large if not large/thick arrows, then small shields and font using the 3/4 height error), then only references 141 North for Exit 5B, and South 141 To US 13 for Exit 5A.

Just off the "Forgotten Mile" that is DE 1's bypass of Rehoboth Beach, a portion of Old Bay Road aka Road 272B is closed for what I assume is reconstruction.  Old Bay is closed from its dogleg junction with DE 1 to the rear entrance of the Valero.

The open portion of Old Bay Road is accessible from DE 1 nb and sb via Ann Avenue.

So, followup on my earlier inquiry, essentially answering my own question...

Yes, 202 is still signed on US 13/40 near New Castle in both directions with BGS's. Its not signed on any other approaches I could see. Along 141 itself, there are exactly 3 references to 202:  2 northbound (a shield at the start of it at 13/40 and a shield indicating it exits onto I-95 northbound), and 1 southbound (an END 202 shield at 13/40).

Regarding highway sign fonts:  Has Delaware mostly abandoned Clearview?  It seems like a fair number of newer signs are back to using gothic.

Casho Mill Road's new clanker balls prevented their first bridge strike the other day.
The new signs approaching the bridge read "STOP NOW! Or KABOOM:-D

Tangentially related, but Newark is attempting to resurrect the old western bypass plans in order to extend Christiana Parkway past SR 279, through Suburban Plaza, and through the woods to connect to Barksdale Road in order to reduce the area's reliance on Casho Mill Road's underpass and give large vehicles an alternative route.

I'd assume that the traffic volumes did not justify a traffic signal.

(For I-95 and US 202)  TRAFFIC ALERT - New Castle County - I-95 Northbound Traffic Pattern Change Near Rt 202

(For DE 14)  Kent County - Road Closure of Milford Harrington Highway(SR 14) between Porter Street and Gordon Street
