I'm looking for an old sign photo

STOP
Divided Highway
Turn back, you are going the wrong way

These were often used on divided highways where the lanes didn't parallel each other (such as parts of US 66 in Missouri).

I have seen such a thing at the CalTrans library but did not get a photo of their photo.  Maybe JN Winkler did?

I do have a photo of the sign which I used to have on my Fotopic site, but that went up in smoke when Fotopic folded.  My rendering uses the correct alphabet series but is otherwise rather free.

I don't think this is the sign US71 is asking about, however--this was an experimental sign designed to prevent wrong-way travel on freeway ramps.

Not quite the same, but: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gct87quRRJU/SYn8flagLvI/AAAAAAAAADs/Uv8ccjiTztA/s1600-h/stopww.jpg

Close.

It was often a tiny STOP sign (sometimes sq font)
a "Divided Highway" collar
A large white sign with black lettering.

Maybe I'll try to recreate one from memory.

Hmmm...I wonder if MoDOT would have a photo in their archives?
