Currently -11C (12F) and sunny with no clouds in the sky. There's been a lot of grey skies the past few months, so that's a nice change of pace.

Good to hear, I hope the clear skies are coming this way. It's been extremely gray here too with harsh winds. Five straight days of snow showers and flurries hasn't amounted to much on the ground because of constant blowing and drifting.

A few inches of snow fell in the Lawton area today. We still have some intermittent snow falling. It should taper off some time after midnight.

ozarkman417

5-6 inches in the Springfield MO area. Some areas of the Arkansas River Valley and Ouachita Mountains got upwards of a foot.

At one point, there was a ski resort in the Arkansas Ozarks. Perhaps once every year or two such a place could have something to offer.

We're hanging several degrees below average for the middle of January right now.

Later this weekend when a warm front pushes winds from the South, we'll be back above average with highs topping near 80 degrees, then another (this time stronger) cold front next week will plunge us back down below average, this time well below average to the point where a couple of locations could be approaching freezing lows.  Parts of the Houston area could grind to a halt being threatened with frozen precipitation (ice/sleet) next week and lows in the 20s there, but thankfully we're too far south where we won't have worry about that.  On a personal note: Summer can't come soon enough.

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:      63 high; 47 low                  73 high; 55 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  64 high; 46 low                  69 high; 50 low
LAREDO:                66 high; 47 low                  68 high; 47 low
MCALLEN:              66 high; 48 low                  72 high; 53 low
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Mid-20s and clear outside. Reasonably pleasant for a January night. Per the 6:00 news tonight, the forecast for the presidential inauguration Monday is showing an expected windchill of 6° at noon. Tuesday morning at 7:00 is expected to feel like –5°.

Marble Falls. A part of the Dogpatch USA theme park that went bankrupt in the late 1980s. A dang shame because it had some viability.

Looks like the bikers and tweakers have taken over what remains of it:

Sunny and 19, with around 4 inches of snow.

It's a brisk -18C (0F) right now, but also sunny, so at least it makes for a nice view out the window. Tonight and tomorrow night are expected to dip down to -23C (-9F)! Not surprisingly, Environment Canada has issued an "extreme cold warning" for the area, lasting until Wednesday morning.

Same here, brilliant sunshine after about 4 inches of snow on Sunday night/Monday. Now the winds have shifted to southwest and the lake effect snow with it, producing heavy snow up near Watertown.

It's warmed up a bit since my alarm clock went off. It's now 15°F with a windchill of 13°. The windchill was closer to 6° at 7:00.

My brother lives in New Orleans. It's 29° there, snowing heavily, and the windchill is 13°! His big problem is that his house is not heated, which apparently isn't unusual down there. He tells me they're expected to get blizzard conditions by lunchtime.

Supposedly 33F.  There was even some actual ice on the ground when I ran this morning from sprinkler run off.

My brother just sent this picture of his cat watching the snow in New Orleans (where the windchill is now apparently 11°, so colder than it is here in the DC area). I like the palm tree across the way there in the overall context of this picture.

-1F this morning with bitter winds. A backdrop of clear skies though and a beautiful sunrise.

Last week the Arctic blast practically grinded most of South Texas grinded to a near halt due to a mix of freezing precipitation; Victoria and Beeville received nearly a remarkable quarter-inch of snow flurries, while other parts rain froze on contact with the ground or object for a brief period.  Lows dropped below freezing for two consecutive nights for most of South Texas; a few places even saw an additional night of sub-freezing (three nights in a row).  Last Wednesday afternoon not a single town in South Texas even reached 50 degrees.

Our temperatures have thankfully rebounded back to our typical winter conditions....lots closer to where we should be near the end of January:

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:      82 high; 70 low                  74 high; 56 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  81 high; 66 low                  71 high; 53 low
LAREDO:                80 high; 64 low                  72 high; 50 low
MCALLEN:              84 high; 71 low                  75 high; 55 low

On an alarming note, barely two decades went by since the most recent frozen precipitation of any kind back in 2004 where a record-shattering quarter-foot of snow fell in Corpus Christi, that's too short of a time span between frozen events considering normal pattern of about half-century between snowfalls (1894 .... 1941 .... 2004 .... 2025??).  Let's hope the snow machines wait until sometime approaching the year 2080 to snow again in my home city to keep the normal pattern between snowfalls.
