This guy on youtube 'Freewayjim' drives around various cities and records it. Thought this might be interesting, he's covered the south pretty well

Has anyone found any good ones of the west coast?

That was pretty amazing... thank you so much for the link rawr. He apparently did quite a few in my area, albeit with some errors in labeling...  ;)

Yeah that's pretty neat. Would make an interesting addition to the AAroads highway guides.

Yeah, I love freewayjim's videos :) Made quite a few myself too in Europe.

Alex

I have converted a couple of my old VHS videos and uploaded them to youtube as well.  http://www.youtube.com/aaroads
There are also more recent videos shot by Andy and myself on our respective digital cameras as well. Whenever I get more time, I'll try to get more of my 1990s freeway videos converted and uploaded. There are some from 1993 of the Bay Area, but they are not shot well unfortunately...

FWIW Jim was one of the first roadgeeks I ever contacted back in 1998!

Chris

Check out this Japanese guy;

Has currently over 1,900 road videos  :o

rawr apples

1900, that guy is crazy. lol

I'm driving from Detroit to DC in march, via West VA. I might try it out, that drive is really scenic

Jim skipped over Oklahoma City because he considered it boring... :(

Oklahoma City is boring... my mom's from Norman, and what she's shown me of OK City and the surrounding area make me really glad I've never had to live there...  :P

I'd say, go out and make some yourself :)

Or search on Youtube, maybe I forgot some.

Of course we're boring, but we still have freeways! Did you at least get a chance to see the I-40 Crosstown, which opened to traffic in 1871 1907 1960-something?

Yes. My mom keeps showing me every picture/video she can find to make me not want to go there because she hated growing up there so much.  :-D

Yeah, Jim has a very nice collection of videos. I like his videos a lot.
Check out my YouTube page (http://youtube.com/Bryant5493). I have numerous road videos of Metro Atlanta and other areas in the Southeast.

I just signed up on photobucket -- here's my page (http://s594.photobucket.com/albums/tt24/Bryant5493).

Well, on top of not having any really interesting interchanges or structures the weather was not the greatest while I was driving through Oklahoma City, overcast with light rain here & there so that clinched my decision not to film it.

I promise, if I ever get back to Oklahoma City and the weather is good AND I have the time I'll film some of it. Personally I'd like have part of every major city in my collection and OKC certainly qualifies.

I do regret not filming I-135 in Wichita, KS when I was there later that day, that was a pretty interesting little road with the canal in the median.

Chris

I had so many copyright infringements on my youtube videos I actually stopped putting music on my videos... Greedy music labels... it's not like I'm making money with my videos. (they cost money :) )

Bryant5493

^^ Indeed (lol).

Be well,

What kind of camera is best for filming these?

^^ I use a Panasonic 800x Digital Zoom PV-GS15 (for some reason, I thought that it was a JVC, lol) and a Memorex. Mount either to the dash and you're good to go.

I use a simple digital compact camera for filming, Canon Powershot A530. Only 20 fps, but with a 4 GB card, you can film longer than your batteries will last  :sombrero: You won't really notice the 20 or 30 fps difference on youtube anyway.
