Tolls have gone up on NYC bridges

As of Sunday, July 12th, tolls have gone up on New York City bridges and tunnels operated by the MTA.  Now, it will cost $11 in cash to cross the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, and $5.50 in cash in each direction to cross the Throgs Neck, Whitestone, RFK (Triboro) Bridges, Queens-Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery Tunnels.  E-ZPass discount still applies.  For more information, check out....

Well, MTA does have like a 10% budget deficit (over 1 billion dollars)... operating rail cost a lot more money than it brings in, and New York has a lot of it. Users of the bridges have to fill in that gap. Try to raise the subway tolls with 10%...

Wasn't there a "revolt" the last time that MTA tried to raise subway and companion agency Metro-North tried to raise commuter rail fares?

Actually, the base subway fare already went up from $2 to $2.25 and commuter rail fares have also gone up. The hike is across the board. And it would have been larger had Albany not passed some new funding legislation.
