Weigh stations on non-Interstate roads

Yesterday, I drove to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a day trip, and I saw a weigh station on NE 2 just west of Nebraska City.

That made me wonder: throughout the country, where else have you seen weigh stations on US highways, state highways, or other non-Interstate roads (whether they be freeways or otherwise)?

There's a (likely inactive) weigh station/port of entry along US 85 at Fort Vasquez near Platteville. I just drove past it today.

CA 99 has a rather large one north of Chowchilla.  There was one in the middle of US 19 in Old Town, Florida that I used to pass quite often.  US 1 in the Florida Keys had one on the outskirts of Tavernier.

US 212 has one in Broadus, MT, due to trucks using that route as an alternative to I-90 in WY.

Nearly every state line crossing along a numbered route into the state of Mississippi has a weigh station.  Most are just wide paved areas where portable scales can be set up, but I believe that a few of them have permanent scales, such as US 45 in Corinth or US 72 near Iuka.  Not too sure how often any of them are used.

• US 40/US 61used to have one between MO 94 and the Missouri River before being upgraded into I-64.
• US 12 just south of the Wisconsin border in Illinois
• US 41 has one in Illinois between IL 173 and the merge onto I-94/I-41

I think there are a few more non-interstate ones in Illinois.

Maine:

- US 1 in Kittery, just north of the Maine Visitor Center access road
- There's also another one in Ellsworth too, also on US 1.
- I believe there is one entering Maine (and possibly into Québec too) on US 201 at the Jackman border crossing.
- There are probably more scattered across the state too, but there's just too many to list here on the top of my head.

New Hampshire:

- NH 101 in Exeter, just east of Exit 7 (NH 125)
- US 4 (WB only), in Durham, before the NH 155 exit

Massachusetts:

- MA 146 in Uxbridge, just south of Exit 6
- US 6 in Barnstable, just east of Exit 63
- MA 2 in Lancaster (WB doubles as a visitor center) just east of I-190

Québec:

There was one I saw on Route 173 after crossing the Jackman border crossing en route to Québec City.

All of these locations I believe are "mobile" weigh stations, with a wide pulloff, and I have never seen them in operation on the times I've driven past these locations.

Here's one on a two-lane road: US-50 just west of Gilbert's Corner, Virginia. The Google car is heading west in that image. Both directions share a single lane through the weigh station; westbound traffic must cross over to the far side of the road to access the scale and then cross back again afterwards.

This is actually something I've noticed quite a bit on. As some states seem to have them, and others don't at all. Though some have just 'pulloffs' near state lines, or at random places in their states.

For instance, North Dakota has only two official 'weigh stations' outside of interstates. But have tons of 'pull off' locations such as on Route 2 north of Williston, many along Route 5. US83 and US281 have pulloffs signed as weigh stations, but they're just pulloffs with signs.

The two in ND that is a 'true' weigh station is US85 between Williston and Watford City just south of the Missouri River. As well as US12 in Bowman at the intersection with US85.

South Dakota has a TON of these, but many of them are just signed pulloffs at intersections. There's a real 'weigh station' near Wolsey on US281 near US14. There's a few with 'shacks' but hard to call a weigh station. One is on US12 in Lemmon at the intersection with SR73.  There's many more located such as US281 north of Aberdeen at the state line.  There's one on US12/83 near Selby at the intersection. US83/US14 northeast of Pierre. One in Miller, Faulkton, and one on US12 near Milbank. There's more just signed in random places that are barely 'weigh stations'. One near Phillip, several others on US12 (one east of Aberdeen). There's one near Yankton, and on SR11 heading into Iowa that's probably for though going around I-90.

Nebraska has a bunch of 'signed' weigh stations that don't seem to be anything more than a pulloff. There's a few 'big ones', such as the one on NE2 and the one on US275 north of Fremont. The rest tend to be pulloffs signed as weigh stations. US34 has one west of Culbertson on US6/US34 near the intersection. There's a few around Alliance and Scottsbluff. One on NE71 between Scottsbluff and Kimball (which is a four-lane). US20 has a few. One near O'Neill at the intersection with US275.

Montana is another state with a ton. You name the road, it seems like there's a pull-off on one labeled as "Weigh Station". MT200 and US2 has a bunch. A major one in Libby and Culberston on both sides of the state. On 200, there's one west and east of Great Falls. Harlowton has one. US212 in Broadus has a 'real' building near the intersection with SR53. But there's a ton more just located throughout the state. US12 has a few, one in Lavina. One is also over west of Helena that's just a pulloff. An odd one is east of Miles City at the old intersection of US12 and old US10. It's just a pullthrough connecting the two roads.

Minnesota has a weird on on US10 in Moorehead. It's on US10 at the intersection of US75 in the middle of town. It used to be signed, but the signs are down now. But they still use it occasionally. https://www.google.com/maps/@46.8762943,-96.740762,226m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu

Minnesota has a couple on US2. One east of Erskine and another west of Duluth. The one west of Duluth is a 'major' weigh station. Wisconsin also has a huge one on US2/US53 east of Superior as well: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iivp6Ed3yJbszXvJA

Back to western states, Colorado has a few. The most notable would be in Lamar on US287/US50. The other would be Cortez on US491 in the southwest corner of the state. Both are 'big' facilities and not just pulloffs.

Wyoming has a ton, but they're mostly 'port of entry' buildings. Torrington, Lusk, Frannie US310), Alpine, Kemmerer, Cheyenne (US85) and Laramie (US287) have ports of entry. There's also a few random ones in the middle. Such as the one in Casper of all places but not on I-25. It's not far from I-25, though. Staying out west, Idaho and Washington both have a bunch mostly due to harvest season. Washington has one near Walla Walla that's just a pull off (and several others signed but aren't even really a pulloff, just a large shoulder). One near Brewster and another on US395 northeast of Pasco. Idaho has a few. One on US26, a few on US20 and US26 in the central part of the state.

Utah has one in Monticello at the intersection of US191 and US491 that's a big 'real' weigh station. It's a major route, so that makes sense. Also, I had read that when Utah and Colorado built their joint weigh station in Colorado, Utah closed their old one on I-70. But then disagreements on enforcement happened, so Utah decided to enforce Monticello more (though, I-70 does have a weigh station in utah again. New Mexico has a few. But, like Wyoming, they do the "Port of Entry" thing for permits, so they have them all over. Nara Visa on US54, Texico on US60, Hobbs on US62, Clayton on US87, south of Alamogordo on US54, Carlsbad on US62... though the ones in Tatum and Shiprock have both been closed. There's a few 'internal' ones. US550 near Cuba has one, as does the one in "Vaughn" still exist. US54 has a TON of pulloffs labeled as weigh stations, but they're basically paved parking areas on the shoulders. There's a few of those out east. Roswell has one on the relief route. US70 has a bunch between Las Cruces and Texas. They're just large pulloffs. I've never seen one in use. They're mostly for harvest season, especially for grain/grass/hay haulers who will grossly overload their trailers for short trips.

Arizona has a couple. One is on future I-11 northwest of Kingman. Springerville has one on US60/US191. And, I don't remember where, but I swear there's one on US70 or US60 between Phoenix and New Mexico. But that might have been an immigration checkpoint.

Texas has a ton, but aren't used much. One in Childress on US287 is a real 'building'. There's a few down south along what will be future I-69C and I-69E. I know future I-69 has one somewhere around Marshall that actually looked 'new'.

Oklahoma has one really 'off the grid' ones in Boise City in the panhandle. It's on US287 at the interchange with US412. It used to be by itself just east of town where US287 turned left at the T intersection, went into town around the courthouse square, and then continued north. Now it's just off the exit. But it's a real building and it is in use since US287 is a major freight route.

Kansas has one on US54 northeast of Liberal.

Missouri has a few on their expressways. US36 has one east of St. Joseph. US60 has one in Cabool.

Iowa has a few. US20 had one, but I think it was removed when they four-laned the western portion. There's one on the avenue of the saints, that is a hut on what is basically an off-ramp/shoulder.

Arkansas has a couple of 'former' looking locations. US67 crossing into Missouri has one just south of the welcome center. But it looks permanently closed and turned into a storage facility for equipment and materials. But the signs are still up.

West of Fordyce on US167 and US79, there's a former weigh station but there's no signs for it. So not sure if it's ever in use any longer. But it's still there while they've upgraded the road around it ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/hyru9ajs6GnBSQPv6 )

Arkansas also has a former weigh station on US67 where it parallels I-30 and the weigh stations on the interstate are located. Either they were they previously and have since been converted into material storage, OR were built to catch trucks bypassing the interstate weigh stations and have fallen into disfavor since. There's another in Nebraska on US30 in North Platte that serves the same purpose.

As someone mentioned, Mississippi has a few. US72, US49 both have 'large' weigh stations entering the state. I-22/former US78 has them on both ends as well.  There's a few more such as US98 going in or out of Alabama.

Not sure on Alabama or Georgia. Florida has a lot throughout the state on freeways and two-lane roads. That also double as or are in place of agricultural checkpoints.

Not sure about North Carolina or South Carolina. I know VA has one on US58 near the Norfolk area. Delaware has one on SR1. For all my trips to/through Tennessee, I can't think of one. Even around future I-69 there wasn't. I-155 has one, but that doesn't count. Same goes for Kentucky. US23 doesn't have any that I can recall. The parkways all are absent, I believe. I think they only have weigh stations at/near the interestate junctions on the interstates (such as Elizabethtown or I-24 where future I-69 multiplexes).

I can't think of one in Indiana. US30 doesn't have any, and I don't remember US31 having any.

Ohio has a couple. US30 has one entering the state from Indiana. But the strangest one, right up there with Illinois, is the one on SR18 northwest of Medina. It's just there on a two-lane road that seems to have no business being there. There's far more 'common' routes that would be expected. Such as US224, US250, US22, etc. But, nope. Though Ohio is getting out of the weigh station setup. They closed the one EB on I-70 near Cambridge. And when the truck demolished the one on I-71, they decided not to rebuild it. They're doing more 'mobile enforcement' rather than spending millions of dollars maintaining weigh stations. Similar to how PA has almost every rest area as an ad hoc weigh station.

Which, speaking of PA, hard to say whether they have weigh stations, since there's only a couple 'permanent' weigh stations in the entire state. The most notable, easiest, one is I-80 near Clarion. Everything else is mostly just a rest area that can be used as one. Which limits non-interstate routes. However, there was one on PA41, but I think it's been removed. Checking GSV, can't find it. It was just a small PennDOT building that was used as a weigh station, but it was interesting that they had a permanent sign setup with lights.

Don't recall ever seeing a weigh station off the interstate in West Virginia. There's only a couple in the whole state. New York has a similar setup to PA. They have 'Inspection Stations' that are basically rest area/parking areas that are used but usually just on the interstates. If you count NY17 where it's not officially I-86 yet, I'm sure there's a few.

As for the northeast states, no clue. Could maybe one of the non-interstate freeways such as CT8, MA2, MA3, NH101, etc.

Wisconsin has three off interstates: US-61/151 near Dickeyville, US-2 near Superior, and US-41/141 near Abrams. I believe they had a couple more but have since closed them - for instance I recall one near Plymouth on WI-57 and one further north on US-51.

I did want to add to my post, after looking at a few things, I remembered one in Tennessee. Future I-69 where it crosses from KY into TN after the cloverleaf, there's a weigh station there. But believe it is being removed when the mainline I-69 takes that land for the new flyovers.

I don't ever remember the one on the Warrenton Bypass being functional, unless perhaps they occasionally brought out mobile equipment to do spot checks. I always thought it looked like they laid the pavement to allow for construction of a weigh station in the future and then never followed up.

Ah yes, it was a little north of Point just south of where the Casimir Rd interchange is now.  It predated the upgrade to I-39 and was put out of service around the millenium, I wanna say.  Then when the process of building US 10 on a new freeway west of Stevens Point began, they actually dug up the the old weigh station and reused the fill for the new ramps at Casimir Rd.

Kentucky has one on the northside of the US 41 bridge over the Ohio for southbound traffic.  KY is on both sides of the Ohio in this small area near Evansville.
