Probably.

Also, NJ Transit has announced that due to the construction, anyone who wants to take trains will not have to pay a fare to get on at the west of Dover stations (Hackettstown, Mount Olive, Netcong–Stanhope, Lake Hopatcong and Mount Arlington) and on the way back would only pay a one-way fare, in effect leading to a 50% discount for commuters affected by Interstate 80 and the 275-year old mine.

How deep are these mines? I almost wondered if some of them could be used to rebuild I-80 itself, but I'm starting to have my doubts.

Have police been directing traffic around the closure 24/7 since this mess began over a month ago?

The news video has shown police officers including State Troopers directing traffic.

As a point of interest, in 1983 when Connecticut had a major bridge collapse and closure on I-95 in Greenwich, a large contingent of Connecticut Troopers was detailed to that city to handle traffic during the lengthy detour onto U.S.1. Of course the more than affluent Greenwich community had lots of political influence to pressure the state to do that to compensate them for sending all that commercial traffic into their community.

It's actually been about 2 1/2 months since 80 was closed, plus a shorter closure back in late December.

From what I've read, police have been assisting at traffic lights, controlling them when feasible. They're out there during the busy daytime, but generally not overnight.

But I'm not sure what you may mean by directing. Not everyone exiting the highway is doing so in regards to the detour and reentering the highway. The signed detour is pretty clear, but people are often taking other routes. Signal timings have been adjusted on Routes 10, 15 and 46.

But if you're imagining police standing out in intersections - they're usually not doing that.
