UPDATE: This meet has been cancelled due to no confirmed attendees. Full comments are posted in a separate post on this thread.

I was looking through the current road meet schedule for 2024 and there are not many within a 12 hour drive of central Oklahoma.

With that in mind, I am thinking about hosting my first ever meet. I am proposing a meet in the Austin, Texas area in the fall (think September to November time frame). I already have a few things on my list to see, including the 130 Tollway (mainly the 85 mph speed limit section), IH 35 double decker, Pennybacker Bridge overlook on Loop 360, South Congress Bridge (the "bat bridge") and tollway construction progress (183A northwest of Austin is the main project I am aware of). No guarantees that there would be time for everything but am open to other suggestions.

As for specific dates, the best dates I can find during that time (without a UT home football game or F1 race) are September 7 (not personally a big fan of this date as it is still pretty hot at that time), October 5, October 26, and November 2.

I am setting the date for this meet to be Saturday, November 2. I do not want to interfere with the Orlando meet already set for October 5, and October 26 will not work for me after all, so that leaves November 2 as the best option.

More information to come in the next several months but wanted to get the date set for those who want to start planning a trip to central Texas!

We are now about three months away from November 2. I will be making a planning/scouting trip to the area during Labor Day weekend and will post a meet itinerary following that trip. Lunch will likely take place in northwest Austin/Cedar Park area if that helps anyone who wants to stay closer to the start of the meet.

I've created a Facebook event page as well. If you're connected with me there, you should have received an invitation. Feel free to share that with other road scholars who I may not be connected with on there.

Count me as interested. I'll be monitoring flight/etc. prices. I've been wanting to visit Austin for a while, if only for the BBQ.

Great! Hope it all works out for you. Lunch is going to be at a BBQ restaurant.

I spent this past weekend driving around the Austin area and am now working on the full itinerary which will be posted soon. The original post above has been updated, confirming the date as November 2 and added a link with a map of the planned stops for this meet.

Here is the itinerary for the meet which is now just over 3 weeks away! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IXfViEyQzImHCFP5KJ5maEl1MzTDXvIf/view?usp=sharing

Lunch will be at Smokey Mo's BBQ on Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park (northwest Austin).

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to no confirmed attendees, this meet has been cancelled.

With days left until this meet is scheduled, it has become clear that I am left with no choice but to make the difficult decision to cancel this meet. I am not based in the Austin area and with no confirmed attendees, it does not make sense for me to drive 12 hours round trip to host. I will leave the itinerary posted so in case anybody makes a trip to the Austin area in the future, they can use it as a guide to see some of the many road related attractions the area has to offer.

I want to make it clear that I am not angry at anyone, and it seems like this was simply bad timing. I'm sorry this did not work out.

Sorry it didn't work out.  Was just in Austin a couple of weekends ago, but would have been too busy to attend even if it had been scheduled then.
