Winnipeg road meet?

I've been to Winnipeg a couple times and I feel like it could make for a good meet location. One that hasn't been done yet. I welcome suggestions but am considering hosting it sometime next year (tentatively June).

Tentatively interested if I don't head east for my brother's graduation (also June). I can always use an excuse to visit Canada.

I'm marking this one tentative. My hope is for 2025 to be a western US trip or 2 - whether it falls on a meet weekend is not a priority either. I've already been to the Peg once and it's meet-worthy.  The TCH itself with it's trolling us like it's the UK M- Motorway system already is a minor one :-D

You don't want to hold it in January, eh, so Winnipeg can live up to it's nickname "Winterpeg"?  :bigass:

Almost tempted to fly there for this. Could be a nice trip for my 27th birthday.

Interested.

I'm planning on attending the Extra Miler Club annual meeting in Tulsa on July 12 (have been to all of them since the Ontario, California meet in 2006, which I missed due to a broken ankle), so I hope a Winnipeg meet won't conflict with the EMC Tulsa meet.

Heh.  I'd be doing both as well.  Hope to see you at both.

Between the two instances of quotes?  :bigass:

In my case, it could be literally anytime, because I don't have such things as a job or priorities.

So to keep this going - what do people think they would want to see around the Peg?

Looks like a lot of bridge projects have happened or are in the middle of construction?

I might take some time to see the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, in terms of non-roadgeek stuff.

There are a bunch of bridges around town.  The Forks area downtown is a pretty neat park next to the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.  There are the Winnipeg city routes.  Some really intricate interchanges.  Looks like there's a project for building MB-190 west of the Perimeter Highway.

I would highly recommend that.  My husband and I visited Winnipeg in the summer of '23 as part of our vacation that year.  The Museum of Human Rights was excellent... definitely one of the highlights of Winnipeg and of our vacation in general.

My parents visited there.  Not sure if they missed it, but it didn't seem that Canada fessed up to their war crimes...

There's a few bridges that seem to be out near Sanford, just southwest of Winnipeg, including on MB 334. A bit late to see the old bridges, but maybe this counts as old alignments?

Wait a minute...thought Alps posted somewhere that he couldn't host this one.

I was just about to post on here to ask if anyone was still interested.  I have never been to Winnipeg, but it sounded like a couple of people have.  Theoretically, we could still hobble something together?

One where Alps said he wasn't able to host the meet anymore. I presume it's not as mysterious as he says.

Because I should at least be able to plan the meet based on the information given, even if I'm not sure about attendance.

I checked, the Des Moines NCUTCD meeting (which a few of us attend) is June 11-13. The most natural fit for a meet date would be June 7 for the few of us, but there are certainly other factors in play. I will create a poll and see what dates are winning.
