So the new standard is that unless a state is totally and completely without any elevation changes whatsoever, it's not flat?

A few hills here and there does not make a state un-flat.

We're nothing if not literal on this forum...

Even though it cannot be refuted, I must chuckle at the methodology for "Safety".  It included factors such as population density and something called "Driving Laws Rating".

I'm also curious to know how "National Parks Recreation Visitors per Capita" is a meaningful metric.  Is a high number better, or does that just mean the parks are crowded?  Is a low number better, or does that just mean there aren't very many parks?  And what does any of that have to do with the total population of the state?

Again activities... You know, places to go/things to look at.. IL is #5 in that metric which beats the other Midwestern states. This means that ignoring the cost factor, one will have the best experience in IL of any Midwestern state. This supports the other arguments I've been making too.

I disagree, the rest of Illinois is great too. One reason is I can get a good bite to eat pretty much anywhere in the state. Can't say the same for other states which usually have their good eats exclusively confined to the large cities. Indiana for example.. in Indianapolis and NW Indiana you have Illinois stables like Harold's Chicken, Portillos, Giordano's etc, they taste just as good as having it in Illinois. Start to venture away and the quality declines significantly. Although, this drive in type restaurant in Kokomo wasn't half bad.

Of course you disagree. You are a very biased person and can't admit that Illinois just isn't a top destination state and is pretty boring outside of Chicago. What in the hell do you mean you can get a good bite to eat pretty much anywhere in the state? Do you seriously think other states are lacking good places to eat? Yes you can say that about other states. So what if you have Illinois businesses in Indiana? The state borders Illinois. Every time you post you make it obvious that you haven't traveled very far from Illinois. I can go anywhere in Michigan and find a good place to eat just because you don't think that's possible doesn't mean much.

You'll find much more to experience in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota than you will Illinois. Again there's plenty to experience outside of Chicago in Illinois. Here are just a few examples...

Galena
Starved Rock
Cave in Rock
The kickass BBQ scene in Murphysboro
Carbondale
Pretty much any college town will throw down
Springfield
And the Illinois portion of the Ozarks.

Those are just a few. There's a reason Illinois was declared the funnest state in the Midwest. It's obvious that you haven't experienced much of Illinois.

Chicago is great.  There are a very few pockets of greatness in the rest of Illinois, but 95% of it is lame.  Not necessarily terrible, but lame none the less.  That 95% is flat farmland peppered with nondescript towns that could just as easily be in any other state as Illinois.

(I was born in Joliet, and I've lived in Illinois for a total of 20 years, both in the Chicago area and downstate.  I've been from Cairo to Ingleside, from Metropolis to Rockford, from Macomb to Mount Carmel, from Chester to Dolton.  I've been all over Illinois–by car, by truck, on Amtrak, on Greyhound, and hitchhiking.  So don't you dare tell me I don't know what it's like.)

So, in other words, WalletHub's rankings are accurate when they support your position, but they're off base when they don't support it.  Gotcha.

Why are you surprised that WalletHub has an emphasis on the affordability of a vacation destination?  It's a financial site.  And they've determined that there are 31 states where your money is better spent on a summer road trip.  Maybe you think the sights of Illinois are worth the extra cost, but that's not exactly the position I'd expect a site with "wallet" in its name to take.

32. Illinois

Sorry. Wallethub has spoken. Illinois is not a premier road trip destination, and Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa are all better. And Illinois is still flat too.

Looks like the costs metric really impacted the overall ranking. If you sort it by activities or even safety...IL beats those other states.

The gods at Wallethub in their omnipotent wisdom put them 32nd. Nothing else matters.

And if you go by safety, MN, IA, WI, ND, and NE all top Illinois.

Again activities... You know, places to go/things to look at.. IL is #5 in that metric which beats the other Midwestern states. This means that ignoring the cost factor, one will have the best experience in IL of any Midwestern state. This supports the other arguments I've been making too.
LMFAO @ one will have the best experience in Illinois of any Midwestern state. What in the hell is there to experience? You've got Chicago and then the rest of the state. You'll find much more to experience in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota than you will Illinois. For one thing Michigan is a much better place to be in the summer time and if you disagree with that than how come flocks of people from Illinois come to Michigan to vacation in the summer? I'd much rather be in Traverse City, Michigan in the summer than anywhere in Illinois.

I don't think you've experienced all those places.

Illinois has never been declared the funnest state in the Midwest by any serious talking person. And what makes you think I can't find anything like that or better in Michigan?
