Great picture from last night's game:

"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

Quote of the night last night from a friend with whom we used to share our season tickets:

QuoteI can't watch this. I gotta go do something else with my evening, like slam my
knockers in the refrigerator door and pretend I'm practicing for a mammogram. Can't
be more painful than this game.

It looks like there has been a agreement reached on the CBA between the NHL and NHLPA.

That being said, I will be back to watching hockey at the NHL level.  I'm a diehard Islanders fan, and I'm looking forward to making the trip to catch an Islanders game or two this season, as well as a few more games before they move to Brooklyn in 2015.

I wondered if they still be called NY Islanders or renamed the Brooklyn Islanders? ;)

New York Islanders.  The team's owner has stated that the name will remain the same.

How about the Long Island Islanders?

It's a shame that they're relocating off into NYC when they really belong out here on the Island.
Should've moved them to Suffolk instead! :P

Of course, this is all a result of issues in Nassau County politics.  Since the county couldn't get anything done with respect to the Isles, they had to move.  Being a native of Suffolk County (I grew up in Nesconset, although I'll commonly say I grew up in Smithtown), I would've loved the Isles to move to Suffolk.  I'll accept their move to Brooklyn, since it's miles better as a fan than the team moving out of the NYC area.

Pittsburgh eleminated the Ottawa Senators, no Canadian teams are in the cup run this year. Looks like I was wrong about the curse of Marty McSorley. I guess I could blame it on the curse of Gary Bettman, lol. :D

Meanwhile, the Bruins eleminated the NY Rangers. The Sharks and the Kings will have a 7th game and the Blackhawks might be kicked out of the playoff by the Red Wings.

I don't know if some of you check the minor leagues (AHL, ECHL, CHL, SPHL). But I spotted some threads about rumors of merger of the CHL with ECHL or the collapse of the CHL elsewhere on the www.

Yeah, really.  Talk about falling off a cliff.

It ain't over till it's over, but they've dug themselves quite a hole.
I don't have opinions anymore. All I know is that no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is the best at everything

Anyone here besides me seen the Hurricanes new uniforms? I hate them. Way too plain for an NHL team.

They are horrible.  Should have stayed with what they had.

I agree, there some guys who created their own interesting "what if?" hockey jerseys http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/85931-bleuets-what-if-series/
http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/73389-cleveland-barons-nhl-logo-and-uniform-history-concepts/

Even the jerseys of the original Cleveland Barons (1937-73) of the AHL are more nice then the new Carolina Hurricanes jerseys. http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showpost.php?p=62438729&postcount=14

They aren't - THAT - bad.  Many teams are moving back to a more traditional style.  Dallas just did - Tampa a few years back also.  I'm fine with them - not a fan of the numeral font but oh well.  I'll wait to see how they look on ice before deciding to retire my Matt Cullen #8.

I sent an email to the The News and Observer complaining about the Hurricanes' new uniforms; they said the players had grown tired of the old ones and they like the new ones. That means they're going to stay. Even though many fans on the team's Facebook page registered negative comments like mine. Seems like average people can complain all they want but if the media decides not to cover it the team feels no pressure to change course. In the end, the game attendance and TV ratings will stay about the same. Merchandise sales will spike for a while, but will settle back down after the newness wears off. Guess I will wait and see if the old jerseys will be put on a clearance rack and I'll buy one if the discount is deep enough. But I'm not spending a dime on the new ones. Perhaps this is what teams do now when they've played so-so for several years and they feel they need to generate some buzz to keep people interested.

Hurricanes? How does this Connecticut native move away from that team?  :hmmm:

Oh yeah! The Stanley Cup! :D

As the Hawks will face the Boston Bruins for the championship, this would be the first all-Original Six series since 1979. That said, GO HAWKS!!!
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Can anyone guess what our very own Steve Alpert (AlpsRoads) is doing in this photo?

A bit off-topic but I spotted this pretty funny parody clip from the German movie Downfall about the Leafs losing the last game against the Bruins in this year playoffs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0qLaO7Ib2U (those Downfall parody clips are a guilty pleasure to watch. ^^; )

We could wonder what if the Leafs had won game 7?

A triple-OT win goes to the Blackhawks in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Three more wins and they'll be champions :D

The reaction of the two kids is just amazing.  I can't wait until my son can cheer at a game like that.
