Quote from: dbz77 on Today at 12:20:10 PMmmHg is clearly metric.

It uses a metric unit, but the official SI unit of pressure is the bar (which equals air pressure at sea level). Meteorology typically uses mbars for all air-pressure readings on the back end, and only translates them to inHg when communicating with the general public.

Quote from: ZLoth on July 02, 2025, 07:58:24 PMA project that I will be doing this weekend is upgrading the hardware of my TrueNAS server to a faster processor which means new motherboard, new memory (DDR5 ECC from DDR4 ECC), and a new CPU fan. I will also start posting on job sites.

Because of an error on my part, the new ATX motherboard does not fit the old Fractal Design Node 804 which uses a mATX motherboard. A new case with internal 3½" drive bays had to be ordered and should arrive Tuesday. A new power supply was also ordered, and since the price difference between the 750W and 850W power supply was $4 (now $10), I ordered a 850W power supply. This will allow me to run a memory test for several days prior to transferring the drives over from my old TrueNAS box.

PA 14 does not even make it to US 11/US 15.  Its southern terminus is at US 15 (Future I-99) in Trout Run.

Quote from: TheOneKEA on Today at 04:40:52 PMLeft turns across the 11/15 carriage way are already difficult in a few places, and a few jughandle-type intersections exist in a few spots already (such as the PA 14 intersection).

I think you meant PA 34 and/or PA 104.

Whoops, you're correct; I haven't been that way since 2022 and mis-remembered rhe layout of the intersections. PA 14 is a straightforward T-intersection while PA 34 and PA 104 are equipped with extra loops and off-ramps, along with lengthy left turn lanes protected by Jersey barriers.

Quote from: Thing 342 on Today at 06:42:16 PMDrove US-58 through Mecklenburg County today and noticed that it now has posted mile makers every half mile, added sometime between 2023 and February 2025. Since VA doesn't usually post mileposts on US routes, does anyone know if this is just a one-off?

This was part of the Richmond Construction District's plan to upgrade US-58 through Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties.  It's not as extensive as NCDOT's Superstreet developments, but VDOT was planning to construct RCUTs throughout the district.

In Brunswick County, major projects (RCUT) and continuous green T-intersections (CGTs) were proposed for:  Freemans Crossroads (RCUT); Brooks Crossing (RCUT); Brightleaf Road (CGT); Cattail Drive (RIROs plus CGT further west); Pleasant Grove (RCUT); Robinson Ferry (RCUT); Evans Creek (RCUT); Dornia Avenue (extended turn lanes); and Main Street (extended turn lanes).

In Mecklenburg County, major projects (RCUTs, traffic circles, CGT and directional medians) were proposed for:  Brown Town Road (directional median); Regional Airport (directional median); North Main Street (signal improvements); High Street/Wells Street (traffic circle); Thompson Street (RIRO); I-85 (DDI); East Atlantic (Bus US-58) (signal improvements); Goodes Ferry (CGT); Dockery Road (RCUT); Union Level (RCUT); Smith Cross Road (RCUT); US Route 1 (CGT); Baskerville Road (RCUT); Hayes Mill (RCUT); Madison Street (Bus US-58)(CGT); Washington Street (CGT); Skipwith Road (Bus US-58)(RCUT); Jefferson Street (Old US-58)(RCUT); Mayfield Drive (RCUT); Tower Road (directional median); Shiney Rock Road (directional median); Virginia Avenue (RCUT); Sandy Fork (directional median); Cherry Hill Church (directional median); Buffalo Springs (directional median); and Tabernacle Road  (directional median).

I realize that the US-58/US-1 intersection southwest of South Hill isn't exactly a busy intersection, but I'm surprised that VDOT has adopted such drastic traffic restrictions for an intersection between two U.S. Routes, particularly at an overlap.  That being said, NCDOT has a long history of such incursions.

Suggestions and Questions / Re: Profile Avatars
Last post by Bruce - Today at 08:23:36 PM
Quote from: oscar on Today at 11:38:53 AMI'd like to restore the avatar I've had for a long time. It was a route marker I photographed (heavy edits to comply with this forum's avatar guidelines), which I uploaded to the AARoads server.

If you'd prefer something hosted on a third-party server, I now have a Flickr account.

You could copy the avatar from the Wayback Machine into Imgur and use that URL.
