My mileage for 2023 is up to 2318 as of today. Is that good road geek miles yet? That's about 27,000/year.

If you didn't leave your home region, then what's the point?

I'm at 366 new miles of highway for the year so far, including finishing off a U.S. route in my state.

I'm at zero miles of highway this year (with the exception of a tiny bit of QC 175 I did thousands of times already).

I'm probably around 3,000-3,500 miles for the year so far. I had a rental car for three weeks that I just turned back in on Monday and I put 2,200 miles on it in the 3 weeks I had it.

27,000 miles a year, crap I'm at that in about half a year.

Supposedly my 46 weeks of commuting comes out to about 17,000 miles annually.  I do at least double that if not triple in an average year with other recreational driving (my car and including rentals).

I had some Full Tilt brand Mexican Chocolate ice cream and it was delicious.

My mileage up to 2500 after today

How much of that was at 37 mph or slower?

Actually I was cruising at 75-85 mph on the Expressway section of Sunrise Highway yesterday. But once I hit the lights I dropped to 40 in the 45 zones and 50 in the 55 zones, and people were passing me left and right. Lots of reckless drivers in Long Island.

Sounds like you're going too slowly and also contributing to the congestion that you hate.

You really think 40-50 mph is "too slow" on a boulevard like this? Look at all the lights, turning lanes, and businesses on the left side. And the lights are also very bad here, you hit one every 2 blocks and then it takes over a minute to turn green again for the main road. Lots of red light cameras here too, so I don't like to take the chance of missing the yellow by .1 seconds so I like to be able to slow down in time to stop once yellow.

Maybe it's one of those malls that changed its name every 5 or 10 years and the DOT finally got sick of paying for new signs.

Imagine how awkward it would be if the mall permanently closes and the DOT is just to lazy to take the sign down  :-D

Speaking of signs does anyone know why there are a few signs apparently toppled on the southern state parkway? They look all bent and scaffed, while half sideways on the ground.

Knocked down by the wind from low-flying helicopters.

When you get off I-75 at Exit 149 (M-46) in Michigan and head west you will pass the former Fort Saginaw Mall who still has their sign up despite the mall being demolished in 2009 and nothing being built in it's place. Now you will pass the former Welcome Inn before the mall sign without the ugly building being there. It burned down in a recent fire.

Honestly, the area surrounding this exit is very run down and has a lot of crime nearby especially heading toward the Saginaw city limits, going east of I-75 is fine after you get east of Towerline.

This is the proper method to sign a shopping center, by using generic terms.

I generally agree (since I don't care for public entities advertising for for-profit entities), but it could get confusing in an area where there are several well-known shopping centers along a given corridor.

The best solution is probably what Oklahoma does and to just not acknowledge the shopping center's existence directly. The only shopping area I can remember ever getting a sign was Crossroads Mall, and even that had a layer of indirection to it: they had a supplemental sign directing travelers to Crossroads Blvd., the mall access road, rather than the mall itself.

In Wichita, that approach led to this:

Kellogg westbound exit direction sign for Towne East Dr./Armour/Woodlawn

Kellogg eastbound exit direction sign for Towne East Dr./Armour/Rock

Back in the day--before "overmalled" and "dead malls" were words--what is now called Towne East Drive was just part of Armour.

I had thought this forum has gotten slightly busier over time. In fact, the exact opposite is true.

Thread numbers.

3: 1/15/09
5000: 7/24/11
10000: 7/27/13 (and the best of the bunch)
15000: 3/11/15
20001: 4/11/17
25000: 5/13/19
30000: 8/17/21
32839: 2/3/23

Where 32839 should be extrapolating from 25000-30000: 11/29/22

The time to create 5000 threads increased by two months from 20000-25000 to 25000-30000, and extrapolating from the 25000-30000 data point, we should have reached our current number of threads two months ago, which puts us on track to be four months behind for 30000-35000.

A couple of days ago I found an Al-Jazzera article posted in Microsoft News on Russian mercenaries and their activities in the Central African Republic.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/russian-envoy-says-1-890-russian-instructors-are-in-car/ar-AA174zXp?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=83348838ba10432a86d098236c7278ca

Here's a quote from the article;
Quote"The Wagner Group, founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, has become a major player in CAR, largely displacing former colonial power France."

The Wagner Group was formed in 2014. The CAR hasn't been a colony of France since 1960!
