It probably gets less true the closer you get to the equator or the poles, but it's true for mid-latitude areas that have roughly 3 months of each season.

It probably gets less true the closer you get to the equator or the poles, but it's true for mid-latitude areas that have roughly 3 months of each season.

Born and raised in Texas and I have never missed summer nor wanted summer to show up.  I also get angry when we have unseasonable 90 degree January days.  I worked outside for years and that's what did it to me.  I don't understand people that want to eat outside, open their windows to their house or why shopping malls are dying in favor of open air malls.  It's hot and I like to get away from the heat when I can.

Most of the time when people say "I can't wait for summer" in February or March around here, they are the same people crying because it "soooooo hot" in July and August.  That's my beef with it.  If you "can't wait for summer", then when its 109 in August and you are out there loving every minute of it, I have no issue with you.  I don't understand it, but I say part on!  It's the people who claim they love the summer and the outdoors, then complain all summer long that drive me crazy.  I complain about the heat every summer, but I also enjoy our cooler months and say I am no hurry for summer to come back because I hate it.

See, the difference here is that people saying they can't wait for summer in February/March are justified in doing so because of the constant snowfall, gray weather, and leftover brown snowpiles. So I think it's understandable to complain about both summer and winter, while also enjoying both summer and winter, but I can see how that's not the case in a place like Texas where one is much more extreme than the other.

I haven't really encountered anyone who likes winter in Fresno or the Central Valley.  Sure, it's over 100F much of the summer but can easily dip into the low 30s overnight during the winter.  The trouble is the colder it gets the more likely the Tule Fog will be thick.  Going for a run over a drive to work in a super thick fog can be just as dangerous as a snow storm.

As others have noted, in the southern reaches of climate zone Cfa it is not uncommon for there to be summer days where the 24-hour low never goes down enough even to reach the A/C setpoint (78° F is the standard recommendation for best balance between comfort and efficiency).  Even here in Wichita, which is about 200 miles away from the current Cfa/Dfa/BSk tripoint, there have been days in the past few weeks that our A/C has cycled on at 4 AM.

Furthermore, on days when the outdoors is slightly cooler than the indoors, opening the windows can leave you worse off by bringing humidity inside the house.

I like winter much better than summer, but I do find myself skipping walks more often in the former, simply because after a certain point, it's just not worth dealing with the wind, even with long johns and a parka with hood.

Clear blue skies sounds like great winter weather to me regardless of temps or wind. Sure, snow is nice at first as long as it's not prohibitive, but going weeks - sometimes even months - without seeing the sun is what makes people around here wish for summer. At the same time, the sun coming out and sparkling on the fresh snow after a big snowstorm is part of what makes enduring the weeks/months of dreary gray weather a bit more manageable. Sunshine is one of those things that you don't really notice until you don't have it.. and in the Great Lakes region, the lack of it definitely gets to you by February/March.

Clear blue skies sounds like great winter weather to me regardless of temps or wind.

I don't think you understand how bad the wind chill can get here. 30°F with 30 MPH is the equivalent of 15°F in calm conditions. However, unlike in calm conditions, the wind is actively penetrating your clothing, so unless you have entirely impermeable clothing on, you will feel the chill in parts of your body you'd never thought about feeling the wind on.

Here, 30 mph wind during clear weather is almost unheard of. Even sustained 25 mph winds can cause power outages here.
