Nope, it is the point. The point is movement of people. Cars move people. Trains move people. Bikes move people.

Also, I'm referring to metro, aka "subway", lines. Not HSR. No idea where you got that from...

The coastal city of Alexandria has a new 18 lane highway built through the salt lagoons just behind the coastal strip.





They have a series of interchanges to the beach.


But where are these large roads going? They dead-end on the beach. Are they going to pave over the entire beach to accommodate 10 lanes of traffic feeding onto it?

Current president el-Sisi also comes from the military.

The Egyptian highway building has surpassed the scale of Dubai - though the roads are less sophistically designed. Even Dubai or Doha doesn't have 20 or 30 lane roads.

Egypt as a whole reminds me of cities new players build in Sim City or Cities Skylines. The kind where they're learning how to connect things, how each tool works, etc. Meanwhile, they are completely oblivious to the atrocity they've created.

Normally in a video game, this is the point you'd zoom out and go "damn, this is a mess, time to restart"... of course this isn't a video game, this is the sad reality of modern Egypt. I love roads, yes, but what they're building is absolutely preposterous, borderline unbelievable.

It's just end-state authoritarian nuttiness, like the same road things going on in North Korea and Burma. It looks like something out of the movie "The Dictator".
